Guest Justin Johnson
Just wondering...Trying to decide who to go with, if at all...
Guest nightrain music
Honestly, the majority of dance producers are not registered with either bacause many many uncleared samples have been used for many many years by many many dance producers both small time and big time...even your favorite dj / producer has likely commited a little robery here and there. The fact is you can take and sell what you want until you get caught. It's not right but it's the logistics of keeping track of other people's business. Make original music and you won't have to register with anyone except a good (or mediocre) Jewish entertainment lawyer and you're set. Guest psboyuk
I'm with ASCAP and have been for about 7 years now, although I haven't have much music output, I'm glad I have it. They tracked as song of mine being played in Austrailia!! I know a lot of people try both at one time. I knew of some labels having one person on BMI and another on ASCAP just to see who pays better. I tend to see more people going the BMI route if they are only doing tracks and more songwriters (like myself) using ASCAP, but that's just what I see when I read the credits of music I purchase.~Dennis
Guest jamu
After asking a few people and talking to the reps down here and in Nashville I went with ASCAP. Anybody and everybody that takes music seriously knows about the importance of ASCAP, BMI, and the Henry Fox Company. Usually people that don't do this for a living don't care about small things like collecting their paychecks. :I am dying to hear opinions about BMI. But I haven't met anyone that is actively with BMI so my opinion is biased since most people I work with or I know are with BMI.
Guest Justin Johnson
Yeah, I've seen so many different stories that it's been hard to figure out what to do. >I'm thinking, since I produce and run three labels, that I should I go with ASCAP as an artist and then BMI with my labels as a publisher. Guest djcarlosf
the majority use ASCAP for a good reason. i heard that BMI doesnt have as much reach, depends on your music really. most clubs where your tune would be played dont have a blanket license, so theres the main revenue stream lost.if you know your stuff is going to be played internationally, go with BMI and SESAC.hope that helped
