LICENSING DIFFICULTIES OVER JOSH WINK IBIZA ANTHEM

Pete Tong's label ffrr are embroiled in licensing complications over the release

of Josh Wink's Ibiza smash 'How's Your Evening So Far?' The track is a

prog-house cover version of Lil Louis'acid house anthem 'French Kiss', and

features samples from the original, which is still licensed to ffrr in the UK.

Speaking to www.muzikweekly.com after a well-received set in Ibiza's famous

Pacha club, Wink explained, "I did the track in about June of last year, and I

did it just to play out for me. I got lots of reaction from it, so I gave a

couple of copies on CD to people. They started playing it, and it got a great

reaction. I gave it to Pete Tong in October.. didn't really get much from him,

up until everyone started really playing it, y'know?"

The record really began to make its mark at this year's Miami Music Conference,

and is now one of the biggest tunes of the year in Ibiza. After some legal

wrangling, www.muzikweekly.com understands that ffrr agreed to release the track

under the title 'Josh Wink Feat. Lil Louis', yet when promos were sent out last

Monday, the record was credited to Lil'Louis Vs Josh Wink', with the labelling

'Wink UK Mix'.

"I sampled one little thing from the beginning of the record, I cleared the

sample legally in the United States," said Josh. "Our label went the legal,

respectful way to Little Louis, and cleared the sample, payed the money, payed

the union fees for it, and then we couldn't clear it for the world, because ffrr

had the record. We haven't signed anything up until this date, even though

London (Records)'s going around saying they have the record, and that it's on

ffrr, and it's Josh Wink mix."

"Nothing's signed," he added. "They're putting out promos with the wrong labels

on it (sic) and everything, and I found that out on Monday. So I called my

lawyers, and said 'hey, send them a letter saying this isn't how it's supposed

to be. They (ffrr) apologised, and said that they just had to get it out."

Nonetheless, Josh Wink is determined not to be undermined. "Everything's in our

court," he says. "People want the Wink mix of this record - and it's not a mix,

it's a version, that's the thing. Until we sign the papers..we'll see what's

going on." The track will be released in the US at the end of July on Ovum.
