Definition : House Music

Recommended Posts

OK, was wondering along the other day and I wanted to know why House music was given that name, House?

I kinda understand techno... but house music had me confused... does anyone know why? Is it obvious and I've just forgotten something...????

Ok it comes from the WareHOUSE in Chicago. People who went to the Warehouse used the word house as a compliment, so somebody who was cool would be called house. 'your SO house.' etc.

So what's a "homey" then?

And did GARAGE start off in some smelly mechanics Garage..

and isn't "two step" a country dance?

(I'm so confused)

Am I crazy?! I could have sworn the Warehouse from which House music derived its name was in Brooklyn... and that Frankie Bones spun there...

Anyone else hear this?

No the wahrehouse was around late 70's early 80's Frankie knuckles was the DJ. Around the same time as the pardise Garage (which coined the name for Garage).

yeah..larry levan and frankie knuckles- childhood buds and used to spin together at a bunch of spots all over ny...then knuckles started alternating for levan at the continental bath- finally taking over the spot when leavan left...around the time that levan was starting up the paradise garage (76-77), he was offered the gig at the warehouse in chicago...since he was all wrapped up w/ the garage thang/present gig at reade street, he elected knuckles instead...and well, the rest is history as they say....
