Jilly Posted July 25 Report Share Posted July 25 having done the apt hunt a few times already...I'm an expert...brokers have the most listings, but you will have to pay a hefty fee...usually 10% of the yearly rent or one month's rent...you can..get one without a broker...but it is hard...and takes alot of time...best bet to get one without a broker are:-check the village voice and NY times real estate section online every day....they put in new listings daily...not once or twice a week like in the print version....-try to be the first one at all open houses...that is what I did for my last apt..the super liked me and never even showed it to anyone else...and I had no broker's fee to pay...good luck Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

entrepreneur Posted July 26 Report Share Posted July 26 when i first moved to manhattan i found a $595/month tiny apt witout bathroom in hells kitchen listed on village voice. it was without broker and i found it pretty quick. it all depends on how lucky you are.
