The 9:30 club was packed wall to wall as everyone rocked to the beats of the worlds most electrifying DJ. This month, three more top DJs join together to show the Nations Capital just what legends are made of. With 20 years of pioneering production and worldwide mix-master fame, "Godfather of Techno" Juan Atkins truly is a legend in his own time. Appearing behind aliases such as Cybotron, Model 500 and Infiniti, he has released many classics of sublime Detroit techno, including the 1982 electro track "Clear." Recorded by Atkins and Rick Davis as Cybotron, this track is often considered the first proto-techno track. Experimenting with fusing the extra-terrestrial funk of Parliament Funkadelic with the futuristic rhythms and hard math of Kraftwerk and the progressive dance theorems proposed by Giorgio Moroder, the Model 500 12" 's laid the blueprint for Detroit Techno. Along with the tracks made by two schoolmates from the grade below, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, Detroit Techno quickly made its way across the Atlantic, sparking the emerging rave culture and the entire global dance community. Moving through the later '80s as Model 500, Atkins continued as one of the most prolific and sought after producers of electronic music throughout the '90s, culminating in the use of an Atkins original as the musical bed for the 2000 launch of the Ford Focus "Detroit Techno" automobile. Packing clubs from Detroit to NY to Venezuela, Atkins has mastered the art of soaking up new rhythmic elements from contemporary dance music while keeping his unerring, instantly recognizable sense of melody intact. He also has been prolifically releasing albums, remixes and collaborations on Belgium's R&S Records, Germany's Tresor, and others. His six full-length releases are available only as imports. Sharing company with such successful series as Mushroom Jazz, Sound Design, Sounds of Om and SF Sessions, Atkins' latest--Legends, released by Om Records--is a collection of innovators writing electronic music's history. Consisting of blazing tracks from such artists as Space Invaders, DJ Sneak, En-core, Fred Everything and Atkins himself, this album is set to rock many a party. In 1996, after 2 years of DJing road gigs, Jimmy Van M wanted to branch out in the music industry. He started Eros Euphony - a company designed to handle numerous events like DJ tour promotions and his personal studio ventures. Jimmy continued Eros Euphony by setting up Northern Exposure, the first North American DJ tour for Sasha and John Digweed. This highly successful tour has been instrumental in putting progressive dance music in the minds and ears of many people across America. One such club that this tour connected with the legendary Twilo in New York. This paid off with a monthly residency for all three DJs that had become the biggest night in New York City with a constant flow of 4,000 dedicated fans. In 1997, all aspects of Eros Euphony took off through the roof, which led to the creation of Balance Promote Group. Tours such as Northern Exposure and Cream have solidified Jimmy and Balance as the Promotions Company in the USA. Balance now hold exclusive booking rights to many of the UKs top DJs including Sasha, John Digweed, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman, Parks & Wilson, Quivver, to name a few. In 1998, he returned to Europe, playing at the best clubs in London, Leeds, Manchester, Scotland, Ireland, Spain and Ibiza. He now splits time between the States and Europe playing the biggest clubs on both sides of the Atlantic. Recently, he released the follow up to John Digweed's critically acclaimed Bedrock compilation. Jimmy continues his climb to the top and can be found Djing all over the world, and has recently been voted number 76 in this years DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's in the world. Lee Burridge's illustrious DJ career has spanned at least three continents and seen him work alongside some of the World's most revered DJ's. Current projects already promise to launch Lee into the DJing stratosphere and confirm his position as a face to watch on the scene. His residencies at Tyrant, Fabric, Golden and Cream continues to provide clubbers with the slick, hard, deep house, trancey, breakbeat sounds they have come to expect from him and his guest appearances at Gatecrasher, Sugarshack, United, Rhumba and Kelly's Port Rush have introduced his style to club goers all over the U.K.. His recent "Global Underground: Nu Breed" compilation proves Lee's world class abilities. In the past year The Month and Mixmag's Best Up and Coming DJ, are the perfect platform to consolidate his rise with the launch of his monthly Tyrant night with Sasha and Craig Richards, as well as the Global Underground release. Lee currently hold residencies at some of the world's biggest club including Cream, Fabric, and The Bomb.
