If I made a Back to Mine....

Recommended Posts

Completely in love with my Everything But the Girl and Nivk Warrren "Back to MIne" CDs, and floating happily in the brave new world of MP3s and CD burners, I decided to attempt to assemble my own BTM. The results are iffy at best, and unmixed, so hardly anything to shout about...but I'm considering this one my first attempt. So my question to the crowd-

If you were invited to produce a Back to Mine CD, what would be some of your ideal track selections? (JUst in case u are unfamiliar, BTM is a series of post-party, late night, chill out music that u would throw on if the afterhours moved "back to yours")

On DJ Sai's 1st try, some of the highlights are: Seeland-Neu!; Noone Said It's Gonna be easy- Kruder and Dorfmeister; Nature is Ancient (Rabbit in the Moon MIx) -Bjork; some plaid song I can't remember the name of; and odd but soooo good Wicked Game-Chris Issac.

What about U????

No Back to mine....

but I've burned the unofficial Hybrid "Remixes and Additional Productions by...." VOLUME 2

Here's the Track listing

1) Prologue (Hybrid Mix) - Ayumi Hamasaki

2) Din Da Da (Hybrid Mix) - Kevin Aviance

3) Alr 2000 (Hybrid Supersonic Remix) - Air

4) Feline (Hybrid Mix) - Maurice

5) Your House (Hybrid Forgive Me remix) - Alanis Morrisette

6) Everything in its Right Place (Hybrid Mix) - Radiohead

7) Dimensions (Hybrid Audio Candy Remix) - Salt Tank

8) Yim (Hybrid Radio Edit) - Jez & Choopie

9) We are IE (Hybrid Lite Mix) - Lennie de Ice

10) Phuture 2000 (Hybrid Mix) - Carl Cox

sorry for all the bad names...I don't have the CD in front of me...I'll make corrections...if anyone even cares

And I listen to way too much random stuff to put onto a BtM disc...then again, maybe that's the point?? **shrugs**

I kind of did a back to mine last night. It's very chill, very latin and funky. God i don't know the track selections though - i just went through my dustiest crates all the way in the back and pulled out those obscure rhythmic tracks and whitelabels. It sounds really tight and sure as hell is something i'd put on if i had a hammock and an expensive tropical drink.

It's tough making a BTM compliation though, right? LIke you don't want to go slam-banging as if you were live, and you can't go the other way and be a studio-DJ, coz that defeats the point.

best thing i could say would be just sit down and listen to some MP3's or some good groove CD's that you've always liked. get yourself in the mood.

Then go through your crates and pick out those old tracks you bought a while ago and always loved. :) And then play em.

Have a drink or so. Get away from your decks in the middle of your mix. Post a message on the board. Def. keep the atmosphere low-key so you're not tempted to crank up the energy and pump out a club-style set.

Too cool- I thought everyone was gonna laugh at that, but that song is far and away one of the sexiest, hauntingly truthful pop songs ever crafted. ;-) nice taste

Superior - Polaroid Millenium

Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane (good call, mugz)

Mono - Life in Mono

Delerium - Innocente

Sarah McLachlin - Possession

Sarah McLachlin - 2nd track on "Surfacing" CD (forgot name)

Bryan Ferry - Slave to Love

Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over

The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony

Comment: the first part of this list has deep, soft, lulling vocals, perfect for a come-down when you're just chillin' with your fav peeps; *especially* the Polaroid Millenium track, the vocals there is amazing; it is the voice that should make me want lay my head down on her lap and have her sing me a lullaby...ahhhhh....

(OMG - he listens to Sarah.)

So, let's add:

Track 6 from "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" (the one that starts "I like the time of in between, the calm inside me, in the space where I can breathe...")

Erika Badu, "On and On"

The Police, "Walking on the Moon"

Peter Gabriel, "Mercy Street" and "The Flood"

Terra Firma, "The Adventures of..."

Sting, "Fragile"

Etta James, "At Last"

Van Morrison, "Into the Mystic"

Paul van Dyk, "Forbidden Fruit"

D'Angelo, "Untitled: How does it feel?"

How's that for a schizophrenic list?

absolutely.

i was on a road trip once and a friend i hadn't seen in like 2 years were in one car and the rest in another; they took an exit without warning, so we were lost, navigating by map, on our own. we had "the police : singles" playin'... it repeated 3 times before we really took notice.
