ABOUT THE NEW SPACE - FILTER 14

As we begin our fifth year(!), MUTINY is happy to be moving into a new

space - Filter 14. Some of you will recognize the space as the club

formerly known as Mother. For those of you who used to come to The Cooler,

Filter 14 is literally on the same block, just a little further down 14th

St. at the corner of W14th and Washington. In the short time that Filter 14

has been open, it has already gained a solid reputation on the NYC club

scene as a no-attitude dance space with a great vibe, a booming

soundsystem, and a cabaret license to boot.

The club has also opened up an excellent downstairs space with a small bar

and second soundsystem. We're going to make this an integral part of the

Mutiny nights - it will be a smaller, more intimate space where each month,

two of the Mutiny crew will be spinning special sets that could range from

chill to experimental to straight up hip-hop or dub, to drum 'n bass or old

school jungle -- DJs choice ... something new every night.

THE FOUR-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

SIRAIKI and NAVDEEP perform one of their rare live sets, using scratching,

sampling, live sequencing, and Indian drumming to create a furious mix of

driving rhythms, rumbling basslines, deep drones and soaring vocals. Full

sets from the rest of the MUTINY posse, REKHA, ANJU, and ZAKHM, usher in

another year of powerful music from one of NYC's most original crews.

The Club

Originally started as a series of fund-raisers for the documentary, the club Mutiny has become a force of its own on the NYC music scene. Since November of 1997, co-founders Vivek Bald (DJ Siraiki) and DJ Rekha have brought New York a string of performances by British Asian artists -- Talvin Singh, State of Bengal, Badmarsh & Shri, Joi -- alongside local South Asian talent -- OmZone, Karsh Kale, DJ Navdeep, Suphala, Anju -- and a slew of New York's own diasporic diabolics -- DJ Spooky, Mutamassik, Badawi, Wunmi, Singe and Verb, and TC Islam. This on top of their own live mixes of drum 'n bass, dub, jungle and hip-hop with tablas and sitars, Bombay film soundtracks, and folk and classical music from all over the subcontinent.
