mugwump
Mugz recently spent some days with His Holiness the Dalai Lama focusing on what he believed were the five most important questions to be considered while moving into the new millennium. The five questions he settled on were:1. How do we address the widening gap between rich and poor?2. How do we protect the earth?3. How do we educate our children?4. How do we help Tibet and other oppressed countries and peoples ofThe world?5. How do we bring spirituality--deep caring for one another--throughall disciplines of life? Â The Dalai Lama said all of the five questions fall under the lastone. If we have true compassion in our hearts then our children will beeducated wisely, we will care for the earth, those who "have not" willbe cared for. Then the mugwump asked the Dalai Lama, "Do you think loving on thePlanet is increasing or staying the same?" His response: "My experience leads me to believe that love IS increasing."He shared a simple practice with mugz that will increase loving andcompassion in the world. He asked him to return homeand share it with as many people as they can. Â Â ThePractice:1. Spend 5 minutes at the beginning of each day remembering that we allwant the same things--to be happy and be loved, and we are all connected to one another.2. Spend 5 minutes: breathing in, cherish yourself; and breathingout, cherish others. If you think about people you have difficultycherishing, extend your cherishing to them anyway. (You can think of cherishing as loving, appreciating, valuing, honoring, etc.)3. During the day extend that attitude to everyone you meet. Practice cherishing the simplest person such as clerks, attendants, etc. as well as the "important" people in your life. Cherish the people you love and the people you dislike.4. Continue this practice no matter what happens or what anyonedoes to you. thought you might appreciate these thoughts. I find them very simple, inspiring and helpful. I also find the practice of cherishing can be taken very deep if done wordlessly, just allow yourself to feel the love and appreciation that is already there in your heart. I recommend anyone who is having any confusion or is going through some hard times go buy this book and read it carefully.SK13

"Tibet has too many nasty smelly goats" - so that's where keshiki disappeared to.sorry, didn't mean to belittle the positive and spiritual message of your post, mugz, but the journey to enlightenment requires good humored legs. When I was working in that area last year, I spent one lunch hour watching them do their sand art. I had to watch from the doorway, though, since they wouldn't let me in wearing my paratrooper boots. loch
okay, the cynic speaks:the problem with these books...rather, the problem with us (uh oh, here i go again..."us" as in creatures of mood) in reading these books is that we will initially catch the profoundness in those written words and try to apply them to our daily lives for the first month (at most), while at the same time preach & recommend them to our friends. but ultimately, all that will pass and we revert back to our usual selves, as if it was something distant and far-fetched.and then, every once in awhile, a particular event will take place that triggers our memory of having read something profound, the words & ideas creep back into our heads, and the cycle repeats. mugwump
In my opinion all we are is an acumilation of experiences..We shape ourselfs from everything around us..If our cups are filled to the brim withNEGATIVE thoughts, ideas and darkinspirationhow can we give anything back that isPositive..If we taste from the fruitsof great wisdom and reflecton how it applies to the lifeyou already live....there is no need to REVERT!It has already infected yoursubconsciouse mind..and it's like a seed thatin time can blossom.IN THE END IT IS ONLY THEEXPERIENCES THAT SHAPE YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL..(no book can truely do that for you)But inspiration is like a lightthat sheds illuminationon "possibilities"..It really is up to the individualhow much you soak in..
