jennEfer
Okay... so I was walking in the student center and saw the gospel choir practicing. Actually, the true name for it is the "Liberated Gospel Choir". They take traditional gospel music and jazz it up a bit (some of it even sounds like that really soulful house). They are all in there dancing and singing and it looks like alot of fun. So I start dancing in the hallway cause I just dance to everything and then I got to thinking. What if a white girl like me wanted to join the gospel choir? Do you think they would let me? Would they laugh in my face and take it all as a joke? Would they be offended? I dunno, just a hypothetical question... anyone else have a take on this?
bustaknut2001
There's nothing wrong with that. I knew two very lovely white girls in the contemporary choir in my high school. That was in the late 80's so it should most definitely be accepted now.
heretic909
Depends on what your singing voice sounds like. I don't think they'd be offended because you're white. But in actuality, I do think that you'd have to prove yourself.I first wondered what my g/f's friends thought about me since she's a black girl from Baltimore, and my German ass is about as white as they come. But once they saw me sippin on OE while DJing some sick breaks at various parties, they knew I could hang, and I've come to be good friends with a lot of her friends. It is depressing because it's still a black and white thing in a lot of places. But once those barriers come down after people find out that they have a lot more in common than previously assumed (regardless of skin color), than I believe a good time can be had by everyone. jennEfer
It just really sucks that it does come down to a black/white thing. I might be whiter than white, but I don't believe in separating human beings by race, color, religion, sexual preference, etc... There are only good people and bad people, and sometimes I wish that everyone else would get knocked upside the head with the same notion; that everyone is equal. But, thats just my blind optimism speaking.
