  4. Cherry Main Event w/ DJ Oscar G UltraBar Saturday, April 02, 2011 9:00 PM - 4:00 AM Featuring Peter Rauhofer Alyson Calagna Stephan Grondin Joe Gauthreaux Randy Bettis Steve Henderson Sin Morera BennyK Nick Pureell Jasen Horsvill Mike Reimer Entertainment : Miss Foozie & Macaviti DJ Oscar G*** Oscar G, one-half of Murk, Liberty City and Funky Green Dogs, is regarded as one of America?s most successful DJs and producer / remixers. For over a decade, he has created literally hundreds of original productions and remixed the A-Z of the biggest-selling music artists in the world. The signature Murk sound is created with a dark feel, sultry tribal drums, pulsating basslines, unforgettable melodies and soulful vocals. Their songs are simply legendary. Oscar and partner Ralph Falcon forged a friendship in the second grade in Miami. They both began to DJ as teenagers and have worked non-stop towards their dream of reaching people with their music. They gained inspiration and education by listening religiously to house greats like Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries, Junior Vasquez and their long time mentor / friend Danny Tenaglia. Growing up deeply rooted in their Cuban-American heritage while living in Miami, they got off to their true start in the winter of 1991, when Murk Records first stormed onto the dance music world with their debut collaborative creation, ?You Got Me? as The Intruders. From that moment on, Oscar and Ralph went on to create an assembly of house classics that would forever be instilled in dance music history. From the eternal impact of the Sound Factory classic, Liberty City?s ?Some Lovin??, to the Billboard chart-topping staple by the Funky Green Dogs: ?Fired Up!?, to the 2003 Twisted global epidemic known as ?Dark Beat?, the Murk sound has truly been heard across the globe. Their music has compelled the likes of Madonna, Depeche Mode, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, Pet Shop Boys, Jennifer Lopez and Donna Summer to request remixes. Oscar G is widely considered to be one of America?s premier DJs. From regular appearances in Canada to Pacha New York to memorable summer sets in Ibiza for Pacha, he is a seasoned performer. Among hundreds of other prominent performances, is his headlining performance at Australia?s largest Millennium event, and regular crowd-rocking sequences at Zouk (Singapore), Ministry of Sound (London), Shindig (Newcastle), Stereo (Montreal). In August 2001, Oscar began his now legendary residency at Miami?s world-renowned Club Space. His regular ten-hour marathon sets have become the stuff of legends, and it has become perhaps the most influential residency in North America. Indeed, in 2003 Oscar was voted America?s Best Resident DJ by DJ Times magazine and Club Systems International. Oscar is nominated as Best Resident DJ again in the 2007 Club World Awards. Oscar G?s ?Live At Space? CD is a landmark reflection of his true musical creativity as a DJ. In 2003 Murk released their fifth artist album on Tommy Boy Records simply titled ?Murk?. Just two months after its October 2003 release, three of its singles had already reached 1 on the Billboard Dance Chart. Murk went on to set a new record with five number one singles in the Billboard chart in one year ? only Madonna, Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston had previously done better. In 2004, Murk received three nominations at the Dancestar USA Awards: Best Single (?Alright?), Best Producer, and Best DJ (Oscar G). They won Best Producer. Oscar also picked up three awards at the 2004 Winter Music Conference Awards (Best Artist, Best House Single, Best Garage Single). It is beyond any doubt that Oscar and Murk have played a major role in the development of house music over the last decade. Having worked with forward-thinking labels like Azuli, Boy?s Own, Star 69 and Twisted, Murk maintains a solid commitment to making music that stays true to their underground origins. In 2006, Oscar G?s ?Made In Miami? compilation was released to huge critical acclaim on Star 69 Records. Oscar looks to continue to get music lovers ?addicted to drums? in 2007 with the re-release of the Murk catalogue via International Label of the Year CR2 (courtesy of IDJ Magazine). The entire catalogue will be remodelled for a new generation of music lovers. What goes around comes around, in the world of Oscar G and Murk. 13. Friday december 4th, 2009 safe presents the 2nd annual basel special safe in the district starring radio slave [rekids - berlin] http://www.myspace.com/rekid http://www.rekids.com with special guest: argy [poker flat | objektivity | cocoon - berlin] http://www.myspace.com/argymusic plus lazaro casanova [pet food | miami] http://www.myspace.com/lazarocasanova http://www.lazarocasanova.com andres amadeus [soultech - miami] http://www.myspace.com/andresamadeus http://www.andresamadeus.com grass 28 ne 40th street miami design district http://www.grasslounge.com tickets on sale soon through wantickets.com -- no matter what sounds you profess to be your music of choice, chances are, that at some point over the last five years, you will have got your rocks off to matt edwards. radio slave. perhaps matt?s most instantly recognisable nom de guerre, thanks in part to his inspirational melding of kylie?s can?t get you out of my head to new order?s blue monday, this is matt?s dj moniker and the guise under which he completes his incendiary remixes and re-edits. however, before such sonic schizophrenia gets you calling for the men in white coats, just feel the quality and consider matt?s legacy. fired by the first wave of acid house, matt gained his musical spurs by partying to dance music that was just that: music you danced to, irrespective of tribal factions. this was the raison d?être he acknowledged when he took to the decks, first at london?s legendary milk bar in 1992, then onto the, then, recently opened ministry of sound and then to parties across the country, most notably in wales ? where he was a regular at free parties ? and in brighton, his home since 1998. his love of re-edits, dance music?s oft-forgotten backbone, led matt into the studio himself. his own re-edits and remixes, such as the aforementioned epoch-defining re-imagining for ms minogue, soon gave way to his own productions and since the floodgates opened there?s been no stopping the man known as, erm, matthew e, quiet village, sea devils, rekid and radio slave. he?s released records for skint, soul jazz, classic, whatever we want, and he?s worked with fellow travellers, belgium?s the glimmers. if matt comes up with another two projects he?ll have enough alter egos for every day of the week. psychologists would probably have a field day with him; mercifully, we don?t have to worry about any crisis of identity, we just get to keep on dancing. -- fabric 48: radio slave anyone can construct a track, and lay out its elements in all the right places ? have the bassline kick just here, or the percussion build right there - but only a select few can actually design one. it comes as no surprise that matt edwards is a graphic designer and artist by trade, as a visual thread runs colourfully through his sonics, rhythms and arrangements. shaped by the groove, and ever leaning on an uplifting hypnotic lilt, every production that falls under the spell of edwards becomes certified dancefloor gold. but success has never taken away from his prolificacy, nor his endless sense of reinvention - over the last eight years, matt edwards has been morphing and expanding under a variety of names: quiet village, sea devils, matthew e, rekid and of course his most famed name, radio slave. ?i love doing the radio slave stuff, it?s a real passion for me: the night clubbing culture and the perfecting of making music for clubs. but it?s good as a producer to be able to switch between different aliases, because you can?t write the same tracks all the time, it?d drive you mad. you learn a lot of things from working at different tempos, it?s a good learning process, and one thing can influence the other.? ? radio slave.... growing up in an artistically led family in south london, matt edwards? taste buds initially whetted when exploring the vast record collection of his father (who happened to design record sleeves as a profession), which makes sense of his schizophrenic, and voracious, musical appetite. in fact, all of his aliases seem to be tied by this same motif of imagination and experimentation. in his 20s, gaining a background education in playing downtempo tracks and balearic beats, edwards? first forays into djing were at the future-forward ?open all hours? night at ministry of sound in 1992. perhaps his downtempo upbringing provides the explanation behind his quiet village project with partner, and fellow vinyl-obsessive, joel martin. and the poppy feel of quiet village, meanwhile, lends to the pop dance grooves he creates as sea devils, his work with celebrated musician caged baby. as matthew e, he creates jackin? house beats that groove and pulse under the most unexpected colour spectrum, which is the flipside to the soul-led and more articulate pull of rekid, whose gold run of 12?s set the underground radar alight. his ?made in menorca? album (on soul jazz records) as rekid was a righteous success by critics and fans alike, breeding house beats that truly set a new precedent. as radio slave, a name which originally started out as a temporary venture (tongue firmly in cheek) as he attacked remixes of more mainstream-focused and radio-friendly tracks, he started off best known for his techy remixes of some of the biggest names in pop (including kylie minogue, gwen stefani and sir elton john, to name but a few). remix after remix, 12? after 12?, and radio slave?s teched-out sound has since managed to find its way into an incomparable globe-spanning career, creating productions and compilations that are both exploratory and accessible. his 'no sleep' ep series - launched in 2006, and now on its 6th edition - has become one of the most sought-after and eagerly anticipated set of 12"s in the 4/4 world. but there?s yet one more crucial, and perfectly tuned, string to edwards' ever-expanding bow - rekids, his hugely respected imprint shared with businessman james masters. kicking off in 2006 with radio slave?s anthemic ?my bleep ep?, the label has since gone from strength to strength, incorporating artists as far reaching as luke solomon, toby tobias, spencer parker and mr g, among others. rekids continually sets the blueprint for big-room grooves and hypnotic house and techno beats. ?we?ve got a number of album projects coming up from some new artists; an artist from canada, from montreal called james teej, who we?ve been working with. the jjak hogan album is finished; we?ve been mixing and mastering that. we?ve been trying to broaden the label; with different projects, especially with the album projects. we?ve also got a girl from russia called nina kraviz who?s a singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist, she sounds like a russian moodymann; it?s very detroit inspired. she?s getting a lot of props from american producers, she's just been working with jus-ed. we?ve got a few compilation projects that james and i have been working on, we?re doing a ?best of? radio slave remixes compilation which, because of the fabric compilation, will be coming out in november. we?ll also be doing a quiet village compilation of ?best of? remixes.? ? radio slave on fabric 48, like any radio slave production, the devil is in the details. unlike a typical dj mix that crams as much as possible into a relentlessly full tracklist, radio slave strips back and grooves with only 13 productions, each as incandescent and hypnotic as the next. this is no quick-fix mix, fabric 48 slow-burns each beat and sizzles with a crisp sense of timelessness. all tracks are elegantly drawn out and pulled in directions unknown, creating drama through the smallest effects and bringing back the feel of classic dj experimentation from the heyday of larry levan. designing soundscapes that breed rich, deep tones and colourful percussive builds, the mix tours tempos and glows with cadenza?s michel cleis, the tech-laced grace of 2000 & one, plus exclusives and re-edits from radio slave?s own unstoppable rekids imprint. ?it?s a mix of new and old tracks, something that people outside of the dance music snoberity would enjoy! i just wanted this mix to be a true reflection of my dj sets, so i tried to capture the vibe of what i've been playing over the last year, and expose listeners to the kind of sets that i play at fabric. the club has the best sound system in the uk and this gives me the opportunity to really stretch out tracks and experiment with different sounds and atmospheres. tracks like ?la mezcla? have been in my record box for well over 6 months but it's still a track that's a great pleasure to play, plus there's two new tracks from me, an amazing track from boola and nergu and an unreleased song by rekids latest signing nina kraviz. all in all, a modern mix of electronic sounds from around the globe!?

  16. Jason Hann and Michael Travis (percussionist and drummer from the band The String Cheese Incident) make up this 100% improvised live Breakbeat/ House/ Drum n Bass/ Trip Hop project. Drawing from the ethos of some of the great DJ's and computer artists of the world, they use cutting edge technology to create truly original and melodic dance music in the moment, with the undeniable power of live drums. The music is all created on the spot, recorded, then mixed and remixed LIVE to create an ever evolving musical experience. Since the project is 100% improvised, every night promises to be a unique dance experience. Hann and Travis play different roles in this band than in SCI. Jason plays the drum kit, percussion and sampler, while Travis is in charge of the tonal elements, playing bass, guitar, keyboards, as well as hand percussion and live mixing. Michael Travis is a pioneer in the art of modern improvisational jam-rock drumming. He is especially known for his groundbreaking work on playing both hand drums and the drum kit simultaneously. As the drummer for the highly accomplished band, The String Cheese Incident, he has developed a unique style that is very supportive of a free jam aesthetic while still always laying it down. He further develops that approach in EOTO by being super solid to the point of emulating grooves that some of the best programmers and DJs would create, except with that elusive human feel. Travis has played along side some of the worlds greatest drummers while playing with String Cheese including Trilok Gurtu, Babatunde Olatunji, and Bill Kruetzman; &;amp;amp;amp; he has collaborated with many other artists including Keller Williams, Karl Denson, Steve Kimock, Warren Haynes, &;amp;amp;amp; Bela Fleck. With EOTO, he gets to stretch-out into brand-new territory; Handing over the rhythmic element to Jason, Trav is finally able to test out his melodic chops, playing the electric bass, electric guitar, keyboards, &;amp;amp;amp; samplers in addition to his EOTO mini-kit during the duo's spontaneous compositions. Jason Hann is an accomplished composer/percussionist/ drummer who has been playing professionally since the age of 12. Growing up in Miami, Florida, he was exposed early to international music through his father, who is also a musician. Combined with his Colombian heritage through his mom, Jason grew up embracing rhythms from all parts of the globe. Music has taken him around the world, studying first hand in countries such as Mali, Ghana, Haiti, and Korea, both learning and performing folkloric and contemporary music of the land. A dynamic performer, Jason has also produced, composed, recorded, and toured internationally within many different genres of music including Rock, R&;amp;amp;amp;B, Pop, Hip Hop/Rap, Jazz, Latin, Latin-Jazz, Flamenco, African, Persian, Electronica, Techno, Brazilian, Indian and other fusions of World music. In addition to his current musical project EOTO, Jason has recently expressed his musical energy through The String Cheese Incident and each of his fellow band members' respective side-projects, through his solo electronica and all-percussion recordings, and through working with other artists such as Loreena McKinnet and Vinx . With a diverse background of musical collaborations that include Youssou N'Dour, Keller Williams, Rickie Lee Jones and Dr. Dre, it is evident that Jason will continue living in the musical moment for a long time to come. 19. After three groundbreaking albums over the course of a decade, the internationally acclaimed electronica project Shpongle has returned from what fans feared was the end of the project when Nothing Lastsâ?¦but Nothing is Lost, their third album, was released. Not prepared to leave us hanging, electronic music pioneers Simon Posford and Raja Ram have continued to push the envelope and break boundaries to create yet another sonic masterpiece: the much-awaited fourth Shpongle album, Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland. There are languages here that Shpongle fans will know and love as much as their previous work, and yet there are some massive leaps forward in terms of production techniques, sonic trickery, structure, and direction compared to all of the previous outings to date. With influences drawn from anywhere from Steve Reich and Mike Oldfield to the Batman movies and beyond, this really is another over the top record in terms of production skills, tonal textures, and original ideas from Shpongle. It is rich in detail and emotion, in worldly and otherworldly samples and inspiration, and in harmonic and melodic construction. Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland opens with the massive Electroplasm, a rapidfire ascent into eastern scales and rich harmonic textures, underscored with a strongly pronounced rhythmic foundation. They dial in a different mode with Shpongolese Spoken Here, which transitions from glitchy breaks to four-on-the-floor mayhem before settling into a more laid-back but bouncy number. Nothing is Something Worth Doing is a grounded yet floaty work featuring a sophisticated tonal and harmonic palette, six-and-a-half minutes of timelessness before fading into the long-awaited Ineffable Mysteries. With original atmospheric and vocal samples from India, this tracks simple beginnings lead to a strong rhythmic drive and incredible sonic manipulations blending Raja Rams flute, Indian vocals, and synthesized creations. That journey is followed by another - I Am You moves through shifting sands of time and sound, from its mysterious beginning through its central love song inspired by a special muse, evolving into a rhythmic and sonic tapestry of phenomenal complexity. Invisible Man In A Fluorescent Suit opens with a mournful cello solo that expands in true Shpongolian fashion into a celebratory melodic blend of synthesized and organic instrumentation before fading into the next track. No Turn Un-Stoned is cut from a different cloth, with a broodier opening that morphs into shimmering effects and soulful vocals floating over crisply defined rhythmic elements. The final track is a multi-faceted jewel in the crown of this glowing album: Backwards Through The Cosmic Mirror features a grounded four-on-the-floor rhythm that supports forward-moving harmonic and sonic explorations with as many twists and turns as the previous tracks, eventually fading into the floating sea of soundlessness from which its brilliance arose. Shpongle continues to evolve and inspire, as their sold-out gigs worldwide have demonstrated. The anticipation for this album is such that their launch party at the Roundhouse in London this October sold out and a second night had to be added. The demand for this album is expected to be in proportion to the uniqueness of its content. The CD booklet was designed by Storm Thorgerson, who created the classic record sleeve for Pink Floydâ??s Dark Side of the Moon and other timeless releases, making the entire package a consistent creative tour de force. Unique in their sound, structure, and style, Shpongle is at the forefront of the music of our generation. Download 3 of Random Rab's albums for FREE with a purchase of a ticket!
