honestly, yes spirit is a "mega" club per se (especially since it holds space in the former twilo) However, it has a very intimate feel to it depending on where you are in the club. For example, if u are coming w/ a big group, u will prolly get a table, i recommend the mezzanie level (which overlooks the dancefloor); this way u have the best of both worlds...the mega club downstairs where everybody is dancing it up and the very loungey vibe upstairs will peeps are chilling and "drinking" it up!

the response has been very positive the past couple of weeks and lots of people buying tables and coming to hang out.

rumor is really really intimate, but still has a great vibe and people are dancing all over the place, on the couches (oops that just me! sorry sev!)

mention it to the bday girl, and def contact sevan for either place.

But with that destination come big expectations.

Walked in, got jitters all night, but especially walking through the doors. I like the way there are 3 coatchecks now, that used to be horrible at Twilo.

The whole Indian-Tantric Hinduism thing they had going on was interesting, but I don't know how culturally sensitive the DJ Boris crowd is, I had one bright star tell me that she felt she was supporting terrorism by being there.

    Moving On -->

Walked into the atrium, I like what they did w/ it, but a bit too bright and there was a shopping mall feeling w/ that and the bathrooms. They are def trying to avoid that dark griminess, which is OK, but I like that dungeon feeling. I.e., dressing the security guys in white collared jackets and button-downs is a mistake.

We go upstairs first. I like that they kept the angel (!!) hanging above the stairs. The bar was nice, again too bright and the henna/tarot card/massage thing happening in the old coat check room was whatever, but an interesting attempt to drop some cutlture on the experience, which I appreciate.

Ok, redbull vodka only $9!!!! Great!!!! Made my night.

    Down to the main.

Walk in and I was stunned by what they did with that room!

    Pros and Cons:

    Pros:

The Mezz level was beautiful, it reminded me a lil of SF but was original. The DJ booth was great the way it was positioned. Once the lighting guy learns the programs and sequences Spirit is going to have the tightest light show in the city. I thought it was very intimate and cool w/ the high cieling that wasn't Exit high, it still felt small but big.

Cons: The show was exciting for the first 5 minutes but didn't go anywhere. Again the Boris crowd probably didn't appreciate the slide show of Tantric Hindu Sculpture on that HUGE projector dome.

The system also needs work. It was OK early on and was really banging when I left though, so maybe not. Some more bass and high coverage on the floor, but, like Twilo before it, you heard the music loud and clear from anywhere in the room.

There was really no vibe, but this is a test-run party. The crowd was a mis of SF types, but not as serious w/ the drugs or the steroids and a bit young....

However in final prognosis, I can see this being the hottest rooom in the city w/ the proper music. When Andy & Co. start their Fridays after the conference I am excited to see how this place blows up. The atmosphere really changed from when I arrived to when I left and overall they have to decide, is this a CLUB -CLUB or a CLUB/Something else and then dedicate themselves to it.

If they do, then turn the lights down, turn the music up, and hang on, because I could see myself right back at home in that room.

    ---what a rant!!!!!

thank god i was there with the people i was, they made it infintely more tolerable.

def agree w/ dino...it was a good time, but nothing special!

so this is why, i didn't see u guys? damn, got there at 730-8... he had a hot minute of dt-esque tracks around 930 when he ripped free ur mind, trippin, and a depeche mode song...but then after that he rambled on and on on the mic..grrrhhh....and then just made a lot of noise. I was very surprised, i love danny so much b/c he is ALWAYS consistent..but last night, i don't know...

however, i felt the crowd was a lot better than what it has been...so at least that was a highlight.

oh btw, michangelo...he gave u big ups last night...I THOUGHT THAT WAS VERY COOL (then again, danny is a classy guy!)
