funny how everyone's taste is similar in some ways but different in others. i happen to like the duckwater mixes more than his EM. 3 hours of totally different genres recorded at an after party. Shows me he can do it all at whatever time of the day/night. How many djs do u know that can play so many different styles?

I hope he lands a monthly or bimonthly residency in nyc.
  8. Greg, First off, NO ALCOHOL. Let's get that one out of the way first... My advice is hit up a few lounges before you go to Arc. Sound system is wicked. One of the best ones, dare I say, in America. Lucien Foort is from Holland. Never heard him live but he's a pretty solid producer. As for Victor, I haven't heard him since I was living back in Miami so I don't know what he's playing these days but from what I understand, it's going to be very tribalesque. Club recently had a makeover with new lights, expanded dj booth, sound in the VIP and the Arcade. Ceilings a little higher, new dancefloor and painted the entire place. Go to www.arcspace.net or www.madeevents.com to get on the reduced list. Dress down... It's NOT about what you're wearing, it's about being comfy.

    James Zabiela

For immediate release: Balance Promote Group proudly welcomes… James Zabiela Whirlwind best describes the career of young James Zabiela, who at only 22 is one of the hottest DJs and producers to emerge from the UK in recent years. Drawing from his father’s passion for acid house, James would eventually go on to win Muzik Magazine’s coveted Bedroom Bedlam DJ Award in 2001. One of James’ mix tapes would eventually find its way into the hands of Lee Burridge, who helped land him a spot on the UK’s prestigious Excession roster. Word of James’ superb play was spreading. It didn’t take long before there were guest spots at John Digweed’s Bedrock nights, opening slots for Sasha, globetrotting gigs and even a hit remix for Depeche Mode. James also has the honor of launching first in Groovetech’s new mix CD series, GTDJ01. Balance Promote Group is pleased to welcome James to our roster and we’re excited about watching his career continue to grow. For interview or booking requests, please contact: jameszabiela@balancepromote.com For additional information, please check: www.balancepromote.com www.excession.co.uk www.groovetech.com
  10. never said it was new. sorry bro, it's just so hard to keep up with u.
  11. miami clubs are the only ones left that enforce the 'no sneaker' rule. how pathetic. thank god they don't play that during the conference.
  12. FYI http://www.swagrecords.com/Artists/artist.asp?Artist=Dave%20Mothersole
  13. Surprisingly one of my favorite djs at the moment. Before his Wiggle mix, I had no idea who this cat was. DOPE MIX! http://www.swagrecords.com/mixed/dave_m.rm
  14. Craig played in Philly, Chicago, and Montreal about 6-8 weeks ago. The thing with him is that he has a weekly residency at Fabric which limits him from traveling much. The only time I heard Craig was September 10th at a boat party here in NY with Doc Martin. Music was insane! then u know what happened the next day. he was stuck here for like 2 weeks.
  15. tyrant craig richards & lee burridge back to back 10 hour set. is miami ready for that?
  16. not for nothing but the opening dj isn't supposed to bang it out. especially if they're opening up for deep dish or any other headliner for that matter. who the hell wants to hear recognizable tracks? thats what 93.1 is for.

    home listening

a buddy of mine compiled this list of home listening faves featured on danny howell's site. > > VERVE REMIXED(released 2002) > > classic jazz tracks from the 50's and 60's by legends like billie holiday and nina simone remixed by the likes of rich dorfmeister,mj cole and masters at work..the reworking of dinah washington's classic "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby" by rae and christian is worth the price alone..(danno, pick this up asap) > > > > > > CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA - "REMIXES BY"(released 2000) > > not only one of the best nu jazz producers out there, this collection of remixes by j. swinscoe and co show how good they are on remix duty as well. > > > > SWAYZAK - "SNOWBOARDING IN ARGENTINA"(released 1998) > > say what u want bout mixermag, 4 years ago they picked the debut album by swayzak as their album of the year and it was way ahead of it's time...if u like minimal and soulful tech house(with sprinklings of techno and dub thrown in the mix), this is one of the blueprint albums of the sub-genre > > > > > > DAVID BOWIE - "YOUNG AMERICANS"(released 1975) > > how does someone followup classic albums like "space oddity","hunky dory", "diamond dogs" and "ziggy stardust"? round up the best musician pals around like john lennon, david sanborn, carlos alomar and a very young luther vandross and release an album based on the soulful american philly sound. > > > > DOT ALLISON - "AFTERGLOW"(released 1999) > > debut solo album from former vocalist from one dove. Breathy vocals, melancholic stripped down atmospheric music...higly recommended > > > > PEACE ORCHESTRA - "RESET"(released 2002) > > peter kruder chose his favorite remixes to rework all the tracks from his classic peace orchestra debut album > > > > MJ COLE - "BACK TO MINE"(released in 2002) > > given to me by mr howells while we were both in thailand. i must say that any mix cd that has ravel, outkast, the commodores with lionel richie and ltj bukem in the mix gets a big thumbs up. Also includes my favorite song of this year thus far, the groove armada dub mix of "sunshine" by danny howells new group, handsome boy modelling school. This is one of the best mixes in the whole BTM series. > > > > > > ST. ETIENNE - SOUND OF WATER(released in 2000) > > i beleive it's their best overall album in their back catalog. Sounds great laying around the pool in the warm weather drinking a shandy or ribena > > > > DANNY HOWELLS - NOCTURNAL FREQUENCIES 2(CD1) > > gave this another listen the afternoon before danny played with tenaglia at the opening party of ARC. i personally think this is danny's best mix cd, nocturnal secretions indeed > > > > > > GLOBAL COMMUNICATION - "76:14"(released 1994) > > Tom middleton's classic ambient album still sounds great today, post clubbing soundtrack > > > > MARTIN GORE - "COUNTERFEIT EP"(released 1989) > > songwriter extraordinaire from depeche mode's only solo album to date..6 cover versions of pretty obscure tracks nobody has heard of. Depressing but beautiful. > > > > BRYAN FERRY - "BOYS AND GIRLS" (released 1985) > > 80's classic, roxy music frontman, kind of like a followup in feel to roxy music's "avalon", full of passion and romance and lush soundscapes with help from pink floyd's david gilmour, chic's nile rodgers and dire straits mark knopler. > > > > RAIN TREE CROW - RTC(released 1993) > > All the original members from JAPAN reunite for this album. David Sylvian, Mick Karn, Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri put aside their differences to record this beautiful album > > > > > > ARCADIA - "SO RED THE ROSE"(released 1985) > > out of all the duran duran offshoots, this one is the best with the 3 members simon le bon, nick rhodes and roger taylor...guest musicians and and vocalists include grace jones, herbie hancock and david gilmour..essential 80's progressive new wave listening > > > > THE CURE- "DISINTEGRATION"(released 1989) > > personally, the cure album that has held up the most after all these years...take a sleeping pill of choice, put this on and indulge in blissful slumber > > > > THE STYLE COUNCIL - "CAFE BLEU" (released in 1982) > > The album contained a mix of 60s-influenced jazz, easy listening, and pop, and even rap and funk, that made it stand out from just about everything else on the charts. guest vocal appearance by the then very young tracey thorn of everything but the girl fame > > > > EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL - " THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT"(released 1984) > > still the most passionate album by tracey and ben..and 80's pop/orchestra classic > > > > JIMI HENDRIX - "ELECTRIC LADYLAND"(released 1968) > > One of the best albums ever > > > > > > DANNY HOWELLS - "WEDDING MIX" > > i still listen to it twice a day danny, thanks. I've already started compiling tracks for the your big event in hastings. > > > > > > DVDS's : > > > > HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH > > really funny, sad and entertaining..one of the best films of last year...amazing soundtrack, sounds great as it comes with DTS sound on the dvd. Too bad they don't have DTS in hastings yet. Make sure u watch this on ashley's new high tech tv danny boy > > > > MASSIVE ATTACK - "ELEVEN PROMOS" > > some of the videos are crap given the budget they had before they started selling records, but massive attack, radiohead, and ashtrax are the best bands on the planet. Just ask ashley
