  1. he had an off night. it's kind of disappointing to see so many people so down on pvd. i mean the guy delivers amazing sets pretty much every time you see him. i have been going to see him for 4+ years and this is only the 2nd time that I left without being thoroughly impressed with how much better it was than I expected (and my expectations are always pretty high). the guy had an off night - he was testing out a different style. not my personal favorite but i'll still go to see him next time he's in town.
  2. I've seen PVD going to see PVD for 4+ years now and I can't remember ever seeing him so animated. He was loving it last night which was really nice to see. I thought the energy in the place was amazing - reminded me of Twilo at 8am. Unfortunately I only went from 10 - 12:30 but given that I saw him the other night, I didn't feel too bad. I figured last night would be special and didn't want to miss it. Eric
  3. Got there around 11:30 and walked right in...found a perfect spot upstairs against the railing overlooking the crowd and the stage. It was hot but I had a decent amount a space and pefect view of PVD. Definitely packed downstairs so I didn't even move all night. His set was great. Played a bunch of newer tracks, a few off of Politics of Dancing and the best part for me was one point where he played 5 old songs in a row. Can't remember the name of the first one, the 2nd was Words (which in the 20+ times I've seen him, I think he's played at most 3 times now), then binary finary, then seven ways and then forbidden fruit. Unfortunately the crowd was more or less clueless and seemed bored with these tracks. I was loving them though, he mixed them in seamlessly. Overall was pretty disappointed with the crowd...not only were there too many people, but there didn't seem to be as much energy as there should have been. I had a great time though. He played until about 5:15 or so. Not the usual 6+ hrs but definitely enough. Eric
  4. I bought tickets for tonight just because I didn't feel like spending more at the door, but do you really think that we will not have to wait if we have tickets...seems like if eveyrone has tickets, the line will be just as long as usual? Any thoughts? Also he's not closing, any ideas on when he's coming out and what time he's spinning until. Thanks
  5. What's the dress code...I always thought it was anything goes but someone told me no sneakers, etc...is this true? I find it very hard to believe. Thanks
  6. Just got back from San Francisco for New Year's where we were lucky enough to see PVD spin. The party was at 1015, the big club in San Fran, promoted by Spundae. The space was actually really cool...5 different rooms, spinning diff. music and a pretty solid sound system. The best part about the place, however, is their dj booth. In the main room, you can walk right up to it (it's not elevated) and there is no glass or anything. You can literally stand 2 feet from the dj which is a pretty sweet way to witness PVD. B/f paul came out, Adam Freeland and Jerry Bonham spun. Freeland was ok...not really into breakbeat and wanted to conserve my energy. Bonham rocked. He opened for paul once at twilo and is the spundae resident. He started out a little slow but really turned it up towards the end of his 3 hr set. Paul came out just b/f 4 (he played new years in LA) and I was able to position myself right in front of the booth. He played a really solid set (I'm really bad w/ track names so I won't even attempt to ID most of the songs). It was really incredible to watch him do his thing that close up (I miss the old booth at Twilo). I didn't realize how much of the sound he actually creates w/ the mixer. Unfortunately, paul looked really worn out (i guess playing two venues w/in an hour of each other will do that) and stopped playing just after 6 (2 1/2 hr set). The place was staying open to 8 and he was supposed to go until then. I was still totally pumped to see him on new years and can't wait to Feb. when he returns from a month in the studio to Twilo. If you are ever in san fran def. check out 1015 (esp. on spundae night when bonham spins). Eric
  7. shit...scott bond was there? that guy rocks. i thought he was supposed to be at gatecrasher in sheffield which is why i didn't go. oh well. how was the club set up...in typical gatecrasher gaudiness? eric
  8. does anyone know the lineup tonight. i don't think scott bond is gonna be there b/c i think he's playing in sheffield tonight...so who's it gonna be?
  9. It's the Tiesto remix of the Delerium mix of Sara Mc.'s Silence. You can get it on napster. eric
  10. the shrinkage episode where they go out to the hamptons and jerry's girlfriend walks in on george getting changed just after he went swimming. the marine biologist episode. "the sea was angry that day my friends"
  11. What time did the club close? I left just b/f 8 and it was still going strong. Great night. Only complaint was that Seaman only spun for like 2 hours. Loved it from 6:30 on when they just kept switching up the djs after every other track or so. eric
  12. Apparently RITM is gonna be playing a free show in Central Park at 7:30 tomorrow (Thurs.) Don't think I can make it, but it seems pretty interesting. eric
  13. Does anyone know the order of the lineup this Fri at Twilo and the times everyone is coming out? Do you guys think it will be crowded? Also, on the ClubPlanet email they said it was 21 to get in...was this just a mistake? Thanks for the info. eric
  14. Didn't make it to S&D last night. Saving myself for next week. It's weird...i've noticed that it is best to go see S&D every other time. It seems like if you go every month, they are disappointing...like they can't put two great months in a row together...at least not anymore. and there have been a number of times where i went and swore i would never come back for S&D. but then i randomly decided to go last month and it was the best one i've ever seen. so you never know. not to mention, after pvd last week, i think anything would be a letdown. eric
  15. After his may performance which i thought was the best set i've ever seen, i was hoping that last night would be half as good. Well it was better!! We got there really early to avoid missing any of his set-got there at 11 and the line was all the way up the block to 10th ave-never seen a line like that so early. It was pretty mobbed inside but not horrible. Those new fans they put in do a great job of cooling down the place if you are near them. He came on just b/f 2 and his first track was a new mix of Synaesthesia. When i heard that, i knew it was gonna be a special night. From beginning to end, it was non-stop energy. He played so many amazing songs including the new Skydive mix-i don't know a lot of the names and a bunch of tracks i had never heard b/f. The crowd just went off. He managed to slip in more than half of Out There and Back but his mixing and timing were so on that it didn't sound cheesy. And w/ the new dj booth, he really was getting into it. Dancing, getting the crowd going-i've never seen him so lively in the states (in Europe he's much more animated typically). To be honest, i can't even remember what he really played but everything was good. Kept waiting for the place to clear out and it never did. It was packed-people in the back and side all over the steps until closing. Never seen anything like it. Around 8 he finished up but then proceeded to do like 5 encores (probably like 7 or 8 songs total)and didn't finish up until 9:20-that's a 7 hr and 20 minute set!! The only word to describe last night was off the hook!!! I've never seen so many people stay so late (i mean s&d go later and always have a lot less people there around 9-even last time when sasha went to town). PVD never ceases to amaze. He keeps reaffirming his position in my mind as best dj in the world...hands down IMHO. What did everyone else think? Sorry i couldn't be more helpful w/ song ids. eric
  16. all in all i was a little disappointed w/ the night. we didn't even get to the club until 11 and then we first had to wait on the will call line. i was really bummed when someone told me oakey was supposed to be out around 11 (i thought he always closed) but fortunately when we got in just b/f 12, he hadn't come out yet. although from what everyone seems to be saying, we missed the best dj of the night. i thought oakey's set was so so. he played some of his usuals, silence (in heavy rotation now), seven cities, and some others that are fun to listen to. but his set never really seemed to be going anywhere. i would say it was better than his march set (although i left at 5:30 to go to PVD and missed the ending) but no where near as good as his november set. i've seen him like 4 times since then and none of his performances have come even close to that night. so paul finishes after 2 hours which was also a little upsetting and sandra comes out. this was my first time seeing her and i must say the beginning of her set almost put me to sleep. she did a great job of sucking whatever energy was actually in the crowd when oakey finished. but i stuck around, as the place emptied out, and towards the end of her set (last 20 mins or so) it got really good. but as usual w/ these non-club venues, they shut it down precisely on time. i would definitely agree that the sound blew. not loud enough and the lights were pretty lame. roseland is a beautiful venue, but definitely not up to par for club events. i was pleasantly surprised w/ the crowd though. i mean it wasn't an overly energetic group but i was expecting to see a bunch of little kids when i found out it was 18+. i viewed this night as a warmup for the main event this fri-can't wait for PVD!!! every time i see oakenfold it just reaffirms my feelings that van dyk is the superior dj. i don't know how i could have seen it otherwise for so long.
  17. I'd have to say that lately i've been digging digweed (that sounds corny) more than sasha. But then I went to Twilo on Fri. Digweed was really good, but Sasha was unreal. His final 3+ hr set was incredible. Just one amazing tune after another and a bunch of encores. I mean they turned the lights on and tried to kick everyone out and he still played another 2 tracks. I've always thought sasha brought more energy to the crowd but I think he's much more inconsistent than digweed. W/ digweed, you know you're gonna get a really solid set, and once in a while it's extra special. With sasha, he's either hot or cold. But when he's hot, not many people can top him. Although I would like to add that I think PVD is superior to both. He's not just consistent, he's consistently amazing. And he gets better and better every time you see him. I guess I just like his style of music a little bit better. But I think he's the best dj in the world. Hands down. my $.02 eric

  19. i could def. be wrong about this but i seem to remember sasha playing a short first set from a little after 5 until maybe a little after 6 and then digweed played a short second set from a littler after 6 until just after 7 when sasha came out and finished things off.
  20. we saw the line at 1:30 and decided to get a few drinks and come back. i've never seen the line look anything like that. we got back at 4 and were in by 5:15 (it was already light out). for those of you who left at 6ish you really missed out. Digweed played his last set from 6-7, really solid, and then Sasha came out for the rest of the night. he played until 10:10. his final set was insane!!! just one amazing tune after another at one point. the highlight was Musak (track 8 on disc 1 of communicate). I find this song kind of annoying on the CD but it was incredible live. I haven't heard sasha play like that in months (maybe never). At points he was back to his old progressive style which was nice. The crowd was loving it and towards the end he started really getting animated. Then he basically did like 3 or 4 encores. The music would stop, his headphones would be off, and bam he'd throw down another record or two. If i remember correctly, one of the tracks was a Zeppelin tune (can't remember which one). Finally the lights come on and security comes out to clear everyone out. The booth clears out, but after like 5 minutes, w/ most people still there, he pops up from under the decks and puts on two more songs. The last track was amazing-does anyone know what it's called? BTW, love the new placement of the dj booth. You can see the dj from just about anywhere in the club and the crowd just seems to be more together. wasn't planning on going last night b/c i can't stand the crowds lately for S&D, but boy was i glad i went. and coming at 4am was the perfect move.
  21. i was there last night and yes the booth is up on the stage. i like the positioning a lot. great view of the dj from anywhere in the club. what's the deal w/ that picture behind the decks though? queen elisabeth? (i think) eric
  22. So does anyone know where the new dj booth is at Twilo? Is it just moved over towards the other door or is in a totally new location. I was thinking they may have moved it to the stage b/c that's been blocked off the last few times i went and totally covered during Deep Dish. Just curious. I sure hope you can still get close and interact w/ the DJs eric
  23. i don't think it's gonna be until july. at the summer sound system a couple of weeks ago they kept plugging the new album on the video screens and i'm pretty sure it said due out in july and then you have to get your hands on an import. eric
  24. What does everyone think about the new S&D album? I think it's pretty amazing. I love fusion (track 6) and pushing too hard (track 7) on disc 1 as well as the familiar baguio track and tyrantanic. Disc 2 is equally good. Does anyone know if they each mixed one of the cds like NE3 or if it was a group effort the whole way through? Also which virgin (union sq. or times sq.) are they spinning at on thurs? eric
