  1. Above Ground with Brian Owen July 30th on Metromix This edition of AG is very special as I bring in good friend and special guest Kurtis Patrick. Not only will he be coming in, the show will be a live recording of us working on our upcoming CD. Thats right. Hopefully this CD will be available for download off the MMR site for FREE as well as in hard copy from Kurtis or I. the debate for a album title is intense with KP and I beating the snot out of each other to decide which order our names should appear. While KP and I have spun together at Leopard Lounge and La Mer, this will be our first studio project together. So tune in and give us some feedback. 9-12pm tuesday night. Only on www.metromixradio.com Kurtis' Bio: Kurtis Patrick’s passion for music has been around for quite the span of his whole existence. Born June 26th 1976 It was however quite sometime before venturing into the unforeseen future of dance music. He got his first taste of electronic music in Florida in 1994 when a friend introduced him to the instantly soul gratifying music of a DJ/Producer by the name of Sasha. From the very first song he heard there was an instant connection for him with these new found sounds pumping out of the speakers. From that point on he was pretty much thrust into the South Florida dance scene & on a regular basis was out being influenced & molded by DJ’s the likes of Sasha, John Digweed Kimball Collins & Chris Fortier to name but a few. It was however not until leaving Florida at the age of 20 that he would find his niche by finally touching his first pair of Technics 1200’s & two pieces of Vinyl. From there he went on to gain Club experience as a DJ and create his own style in 1997. Gifted with an unerring feeling for the crowd and a real talent for mixing and programming powerful sets he’s received even greater praise for his ability to make a party appreciate him & the music he conveys. Having proven his mixing talent he received his first full time Club assignment in 1999 as the resident DJ for a Club in Cancun, Mexico. After six months of increasing acclaim in Cancun he went on to take over as resident DJ at a Club in the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean for another six months. When his contract in the islands ended he decided to tackle one of the toughest Club scenes in the world, New York City and to become an established Club and underground DJ. Here he met Phoenix front-runner Timothy Michael (Twilo, Palladium, Leopard Lounge, just to name a few) who became a friend and in 2001 inducted Kurtis Patrick into the Phoenix Productions roster, making him the first new addition in over eight years. Ever since, Kurtis Patrick has been playing numerous NY Clubs, lounges and parties with enviable consistency and in October 2001 he won the much coveted first place in the cooljunkie.com DJ competition thus securing a spot for playing at the well-known Club Space in Miami Beach as well as a spot with the Miami Beach DJ agency Deck Junkies. His great talent for reading the crowd has led him to develop a uniquely diverse personal style, mixing different styles and genres, incorporating Deep Trance, Progressive House, Tech House, Tribal Trance and some Trance Breaks. With his popularity on the rise Kurtis Patrick is looking towards improving his production skills and doing what he loves best, transporting music & soul.

Friday July 19th Guest Mix by Bennett – The DarkSide Brian Owen - Live Biography – Brian Owen Now in his 8th year of impressing listeners and audiences Brian continues to excel in his programming and mixing abilities. In the process of finishing a degree and developing his DJ career (an impressive feat in itself), this up and coming DJ is adding a new sound to the NYC scene. Rising from humble beginnings in NJ, he was trained from a young age in classical and jazz music. Once introduced to turntables, they became his instrument of choice. He was first exposed to the NYC scene during the club era of Twilo, Tunnel, Limelight, and Vinyl. Since the shutdown of some of these venues, the New York vibe has switched to more intimate settings such as NOCA (formerly Recess), Leopard Lounge, Remote Lounge (next tuesday) and HomeGrownNYC – all of which Brian has been a part of. In addition he has been a Thursday night resident at La Mer in Brooklyn, a resident at The Velvet Lounge in NJ, played private parties throughout the northeast and he has released over 6 promo CD’s. Now looking to expand on his live performance background, Brian has joined Metromix Radio as a resident DJ. His weekly show “aboveground†is dedicated to bringing forth new talent and transcending the common mainstream/underground conflict. “Brian has a diverse and unique sound which makes him stand out and demonstrates why he is deserving of his recent success“ ~Jason Jollins (United Underground, Plexi, touchedbyadj.com) “Brian’s evolving sound is addictive and catchy, I can’t stop listening, it makes me want to dance but I don’t know how†~Kurtis Patrick (Proton Radio, Deck Junkie) Resources: www.metromixradio.com www.metromixradio.com/homegrown/ www.homegrownNYC.com/ www.jasonjollins.com/ www.protonradio.com/shows/patrick.html www.deckjunkie.com/dj_kurtis.html
