SPRING LAKE, New Jersey (AP) -- A man accused of kidnapping a 6-year-old girl from the front yard of her home last week was arrested Monday at a hospital where he was being treated for a drug overdose, authorities said. Barry Sherman, 37, a self-employed photographer from Neptune City, was charged with kidnapping, terroristic threats and child endangerment. Authorities said it appeared the man had attempted suicide. He was under guard at the Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, said Kevin Donovan, special agent in charge of the FBI's New Jersey office. The girl was reunited with her family one day after being kidnapped. The girl, Anna Cardelfe, was playing in front of her Spring Lake home Thursday when she was lured and then forced into a car. The next day, she was found unharmed at a mall in Eatontown, about 10 miles from her home. The kidnapper had called police twice Thursday to demand $175,000 in ransom, but never received any money. Sherman was found unconscious Sunday by park rangers at Sandy Hook National Recreation Area, authorities said. After he was taken to the hospital, authorities said his sister found a note he had written confessing to the kidnapping. Anna's family had recently moved from Battery Park City in New York following the September 11 terrorist attacks that destroyed the nearby World Trade Center.
