  1. As I came out of Exit, I got a flyer for an event at Webster Hall on July 3, featuring Johnny Vicious, Johan Gielen, and others...

well, say it ain't so... even though WH isn't the greatest of places, I've been wanting to see Gielen live for a while, and the date he's coming to town is a date that I'm going to be out of town!

But I wonder... I checked his schedule - 7/2 in the Netherlands, then two gigs on 7/5 - first in Netherlands, followed by one in Belgium. Can he really squeeze a trip to NYC in there?

That would have easily made my night. Old school PVD is my favorite. I wish he dropped more old stuff at SF in March. The big question is... what did he close with? For an Angel? He seems to dish that out in NYC only as a closing track. I'll wait till next time, hopefully he'll pick another venue.

For the record, he did NOT play For An Angel

  3. PVD was great

I'm glad the line was pretty quick - I got there around 10:30 pm with ticket in hand and got in within 10 minutes, without even getting carded!

I didn't experience any issues with the staff

The problem was too many people. I thought that Exit would be able to handle it, but I was proven wrong.

I guess no club in NY is big enough for the crowds that PVD draws. Either that, or the ticket prices need to be jacked up even more.

What's the largest indoor space in the NYC area? Maybe that's what should be tried next time.

  4. Speaking of eye candy, CP probably has a good amount of it

Ok, maybe in Cancun, there are more peeps and they're less inhibited, but maybe we could do the next best thing around here... I hope we do a beach meetup soon, and I hope more people show up than last time (at JH's Surf Club, where I think a good number of CP-ers came, but couldn't find each other). Howz that sound? What would be a good location, with not only a good beach and facilities, but would be relatively easy for most of us (especially the city peeps) to get to?

  5. Forget who's performing or what kind of music is being played. It seems that all the eye candy there makes the trip worthwhile!

Damn, I sure wish I had done that stuff over my spring breaks instead of doing things like trying to find a summer job related to my major (which didn't happen that year), and working on a project in order to graduate on time (which also didn't happen).

I guess I still have opportunities as a old working fogey, with some money to boot, but with only two weeks vacation time each year, I need to be selective and there's lots of other places I wanna visit and things I wanna do.

Also, has anyone here also been frequently hit with bad weather whenever they went to some tropical type of place? It happened to me when I went to Puerto Rico and Miami.

Over there, when it rains, it pours.

  6. It's probably a stretch to say PHENOMENON was phenomenal, but I had a great time. It was certainly a good deal for free (for me). I felt there was quite a good vibe, at least on the main floor. I thought there was a little bit too much KTU-type tunes for my tastes, but the DJ's played it well. No frisking at the door was good too. I hope no one starts some shit that they need to start doing that again.

The Phenomenon dancers were cool, but I got a little bored of them by mid-way through their third act. I guess there's only so much you can do with towels. :)

I gotta give props to the dancer who was up on the platform off the second floor balcony. Sad but true, I'd be scared if I had to do that.

As for the Victoria's Secret show... :jawdrop:

Was the food stand (for burgers, pizza, etc) closed, or was it moved from its usual place near the roof? I could've used some of that stuff.

Junior was rockin' as well, at least for the hour and a half of his set that I was able to stay around for.

  7. A gold medal for Long Island!

She did a great performance, but it's too bad everyone after her messed up one way or another. I guess Kwan, Cohen, and Slutskaya left their best stuff in the short program.

I'll say at least the judges did a good job. It breaks my heart to say this, but Kwan (with her fall) messed up in a bigger way than Slutskaya (who put her hand on the ice on one landing) did.

Well it could be a good thing. Call it "education".

They've noticed "good" (or at least "better") music, enough to arouse curiosity. They can now tell what a "good" DJ sounds like, and now know who Judge Jules is, and why people give (or should give) a hoot about him.

  9. Though I could be wrong... it doesn't seem like there's much electronica in Afghanistan

And considering the circumstances, they seem to get along fine.

But perhaps we could change that...

Let us, the clubbers, be cultural imperialists and bring electronica over there!

Rave in Kabul! Just watch out for the mines as you're rolling! :)

Make Tora Bora the next Bora Bora!

(on a side note, while in Berlin, I had heard about Germans throwing raves in Zambia, with the organizers never having set foot there prior to the event)

I wonder if they even have CD's there.

  10. So sweet... beat the last three US Open champs in succession, the latest being over Safin in straight sets!

I kinda have the feeling that Hewitt is the stronger one going into the final, especially after schooling Kafelnikov (the most one-sided US Open men's singles semifinal match ever!), but I'd love to see Pete win another one.

I believe Liquid Todd was on for a short time, right before Keoki

    Guy wearing a bandanna, right?

  12. Another fun-filled night...

Much props to exodust for recruiting board people to come out for this

Shouts to people I met: mugwump, lavendermenace, crobra (and PIC... cool having someone to share Love Parade stories with!), trancend (sux that World wouldn't let you in with the UFO's - what's up with that?), tunnelbandit, nyc420, scottyskribz, blueangel (and Mitchell), rld2g, shadowchaser

As well as non-board people and anyone I may have forgotten about, or whose name I didn't quite catch

Definitely felt like I met many more people

I was running back and forth between the chapel and the main room. In the chapel, the 3 Dj's (Charlie Ruhle, Anthony V, Star) kept quite a good vibe going. There was even an old guy tap dancing there at one point in the night! The end of Anthony's set made me think a little of Sven Vath - now when is he ever coming back to NY? (that's ok - I'm planning to catch him in Ibiza)

The main floor featured Keoki, who I saw for the first time. I thought that he did not suck. He closed the place out at 5:38 am.

Did anyone try to find the 1 am meetup, but couldn't?

One other thing - early on when I was on the main floor, some guy (looked like a lights guy - he was wearing a "Drug Free School Zone", or some parody of it, t-shirt) told me to throw a paper ball at one of the records that the opening DJ was playing so to screw her up, and so (after some series of events) he could "kick me out" (I don't know whether he meant literally or figuratively, but that's what he said). I had no interest in doing so, but the guy kept insisting, and it took me some resistance to get away from him. WTF was that about?

Anyone encountered such a situation before?
