  1. i know pete tong's done a lot for the music industry, but i saw him spin twice at last year's WMC at Opium Garden and he was unbelievably disappointing. He'd play really cheesey music and wouldn't even mix it. if he did mix it, he'd only mix it for 15 seconds, tops. i was expecting more. is he always like this?

  2. I've noticed that Roxy's been getting one big name DJ after another...just like when Twilo was open. But I'm wondering, is the crowd now the same as it was before? I know just this past summer most of the kids that go there were bridge and tunnel kids who all looked the same (spikey hair, sleeveless shirt, shades...etc.). Has the crowd become more diverse now, and is there also a dress code these days?

By the way, $40 advanced tickets to see these DJs??? Please...

  3. probably not...americans are just too different from europeans. also, the US is so big that it's difficult for electronic music to spread everywhere. and if underground electronic music were to be shown on MTV, it would certainly lose it's underground status. I think i like electronic music to stay relatively underground because it wouldn't be as influenced by money as the pop bands you see on MTV. i like the music pure with no politics.

  4. Sup guys,

Just want to let you know that there's a new Wednesday night party at Downtime called Frequency. No big name DJs yet...only local talent and a bunch of guys who are just sick of all the politics involving dance music. We're just there to have a good time and dance to really diverse sets of electronic music. It'll be a lot of trance (older style...not the cheese that's out now), breakbeat, progressive, and house.

    Cover is $5

18 to enter, 21 to drink

    no dress code

    251 W. 30th St. btw 7th & 8th Ave.

It's a really chill atmosphere so I hope you guys come check it out and support the music that you love.

    Peace

  5. I was walkin around the East Village last night and came across a black card that said "Dirty Vegas 1 800 353 6584." I called the number and this really sexy automated voice picks up and says something like, "Thank you for calling the Dirty Vegas hotline!" Yummy! Then it starts playing "Days Go By." Pretty cool stuff! Has anyone else called this number?

  6. Sucks that people can't appreciate a wide array of electronic dance music. People are so focused on finding the next "underground" genre...or the next big thing, that when they think they found it, they drop everything else and try to be an elitist in that genre. Please, just enjoy the music...plain and simple. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it's also important to have an open mind. Techno, house, trance, progressive, breaks, dnb, ambient....they're all creative forms of musical expression. And, each genre has its own unique way of getting that message across, whatever it may be. Personally, I hate it when a DJ sticks to one style in his entire set. I'd prefer to hear someone sping breaks, house, trance, techno all in one night. To me, that's what taking the crowd on a musical journey means.

  7. I thought the night was OK, and not anything special. Very progressive sets from Jody and Nick Warren. But I was hoping they'd diversify their sets a little more, just like the way their original productions are. I was hoping to hear some breaks from them, but I never heard one song that was all breaks. Jody spun some very bassy tracks...made my ass vibrate so much! Then Nick Warren came back on at 5am and played some pretty hard tracks. Both guys played some great vocal tracks too. But, overall, it seemed to just fall short of a musical journey to me. Is it me or do all DJs seem to be hooked on the progressive movement? I have nothing against it (many of my records are progressive) but many of them seem to have similar styles now. Or are there just not enough quality records out there?
