  7. DD Schedule FULL UPCOMING DD EVENTS
  8. (Sorry for the delay on this, but certain conversations were necessary before posting.) First, thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed the party. We are sorry people experienced difficulties similar to past Club Shelter/Speeed parties. This particular evening a large number of people were prevented from entering quickly or entering at all, and once inside, the rest of us were prevented from experiencing the full party as intended. Many thoughtful posts already on this and other message boards concern Shelter, past parties, our event, and the future of the club. Clearly we all support a solid NYC party scene – thank you to those who’ve taken the time to inquire and provide answers. One note: some posts appear to confuse different parties in the space. Each of the past one-offs and weeklies had their own artistic and logistical issues to contend with, only some of which can be attributed to the club. Shelter does have a few things to work out – as any club going through a major transition and renovation would – but the potential is there. Our main issue as promoters was that half of the club was rented out from under us on the night of the party. We’d seen split parties run into problems, so we created a 4-floor/ whole-club event to solve that. There was nothing we could do when we found out except roll with it and work for the best. Almost every problematic aspect of the evening (except for the DJ Marky’s health-related cancellation) can be attributed to the last-minute space split – entry line confusion, lengthy entry time, non-entry time, cancelled DJs, room rearrangements, one bar, lack of chill-out area, etc. Below is the letter we posted in the club bathrooms and stairwells on the night of the party. As they say, water under the bridge. The future is wide open and the pieces are in place for many incredible nights in Club Shelter. - - - - - April 4, 2002 Dear Music Fans, We regret to post the following news: DJ Marky has cancelled his tour dates due to health reasons. We found out last night. Please read the letter from Bulldozer Management for more details. In addition, Club Shelter informed us at 8pm tonight that they have rented the bottom two floors to another party. As a result, we are forced to cancel the Mixwell Turntable Lab room entirely. Other DJ sets have been cut or reordered to accommodate this last-minute news. We worked directly with Shelter’s owners for weeks to avoid the issues that have harmed past events in this space. But for reasons beyond our control and understanding, everything changed on us tonight. Please stay tuned to online message boards and www.directdrive.net for more info. Direct Drive has reduced the price at the door and for pre-sell ticket holders. We sincerely apologize. Please enjoy the evening’s line-up of amazing DJs – they are still planning to blow your minds!
