  2. Amie and I went to Lush last night to check out our friend Soozin do her thing ... nice spot! The setup is in that modern industrial kind of vibe, with a good little sound system and plenty of booths to sit in, with a small dancefloor by the DJ booth. I think there can be a tight party in there. So, come check it out when shea and I make the bassline pressure on Saturday and see/hear for yourself.

  3. I'll be at that show, supporting my BeatCampCrew of course, but I'll be in the patio doing my 130 BPM thing. I'm sure the inside will be rammed with junglists as always ... and you may catch a few people from CP there ... there are some old school BeatCamp heads that lurk on here and come out every blue moon, too. Look for me on the patio and I'll point them out to you.

  4. I watched the first hearing on cable access and the funniest part was when one of the commissioners said, I'm paraphrasing here, "We need to move the closing time to 2am to keep those "Bridge and Tunnel" crowds from coming to the beach every week-end and ruining our constituents sleep." When he realized he wasn't in New York anymore, he changed his description "of those kids from Kendall who bring nothing but problems to the city" to "The Causeway Crowd".

So, for all of you who don't live on the beach, we've got a new description for your ilk ... you "Causeway Crowd" hooligans :-)

I don't really care what they do to South of 5th because I never really go down that far, but it does seem like the tip of the iceburg toward a 2am closing for all bars on the beach.

  5. Got a last minute call from The Marlin Bar ... they have me filling in tonight with the sounds of the UK Underground. Dropping the usual Garage, Broken Beat and dub styles ... free entry as always. Come stop by for a bit if you're on the beach. 10p-4am!

Also, stay tuned for the new First Fridays parties at Privilege, starting in May ... The Beat's Broken sound is taking over the Terrace for the P:M Sessions. Opening night is Friday, May7.

I don't know about making a house track from the recording ... but it would be funny to record it, and then wait an hour or so, and then play it back at a loud volume with your speakers pressed up against your neighbors wall :D

  7. A bit late to this thread ... but good meeting some more of yous guys that night. I stayed on the Terrace pretty much the whole night because I forgot my earplugs and the sound level in the main room was just slamming (sounded great, just required some ear protection). Nice work on the tricky turntables Frank ... we'll have to sort that out for next time. I saw you wince a few times when some big footed people stomped by the booth and set the needle adrift. I'm glad I finally made it down there to Privilege to check out the changes to the space ... I love what they did to the venue!

  8. Respect to Lumin for hanging with me through the Lounge16 ups and downs ... we appropriately ended out the run last night ... now we're looking forward to our new home at Privelege. See you all on the terrace next month for The Beat's Broken First Fridays, now at PM Sessions.

  9. Great news on moving to this new space ... Thanks to Frank for sorting it out, and extra thanks to Marco for the opportunity. It was almost 4 years ago now that I used to play that space every Thursday when Beat Camp was running strong at The Mission, and now I get to return to the source with some new vibes and a newly revitalized environment. Definitely looking forward to First Fridays as we take it to the next level!

That makes sense ... those two were made for each other. My opinion? The radio station, and the awards show, are both commercial crap, no different from any other pop music radio station or awards show ... and according to Buster, that's exactly what he's promoting... Top 40 radio junk for the masses. Who cares what the true supporters of the dance music world want?! Great!

What we're all saying is it's fine to do your Top-40 rotation during the 7a-7p slots when people are aimlessly driving to-and-from work, or sorting mail in the mailroom at their lame jobs ... but after 8pm, really do something for the scene and promote the rest of dance music that is not crap and repetitive. You really want us to congratulate you on your job? Then do it right and promote all forms of dance music, not just what ClearChannel tells you is dance music!
