JL Cotter Singer/Songwriter JL Cotter, age 23, was already bred for the music industry from an early age. His grandfather, James Reese Europe, was the first African-American Jazz artist to play at Carneigie Hall. His father, Robert Cotter, played with Nile Rogers and the late Bernard Edwards, of the Big Apple Band, later known as Chic was the lead singer and helped to sculpt what would be a new talent.
