  1. Hi all,Can anyone recomend any good hard house and/or hard trance nightclubs to visit in New York city??

I`ll be arriving in New York on saturday 22nd jan...any good clubs to goto when I arrive?? (Hard House &/or Hard Trance remember) :)

Also, does anyone know of any clubs that have open decks night?? Again, preferably Hard Trance. :clap2:

Oh, by the way, im coming from Cardiff, Wales UK

    Cheers in advance,

    IXIS

    ;)

The only time you'll hear UK hard house played in NYC is if someone comes here to play it. Otherwise, there are no nights devoted just to that sound (same with hard trance since its pretty much the same stuff).

That being said, there are alot of good semi-underground clubs in the city that cater to a more progressive sound. Sullivan room is small but has a great vibe.

  2. Hey Guys:

Does anyone have any info on some hot clubs in Canada such as STEREO Or CELEBRITIES that are into mixed crowds, electro/progressive dance music, people that like to drink dance and their party on in a creative and fun atmosphere.

Any website links, phone numbers or contact info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Boa in TO is the best club in North America right now.

  3. Behrouz was incredibly off his game last night... this a man I've personally seen over 20 times and never once has he played a sub-excellent set. I was very dissapointed. His set reminded alot of older Deep Dish or Sander K (always caught in the middle and never reaching a destination).

  4. I went to one party, it was sick. Godskitchen still at Ikon? taking time off? or over and done with?

Most likely done with with. GK crashed and burned in NY and I don't think we'll be seeing them return. The fact that GK can't get a good night going in this city is a testament to the state of NY clubbing (even if they did try to work with Exit).

  5. i guess we did not miss anything ... sorry for those that did not enjoy this .. but i heard Remy before .. and i thought he was ok .. we logged into DI website and heard avb him live and i thouhgt he was ok but sooo repetitive .. since i never heard him before i cant tell if he was in his game or not ..

If you thought he was just ok, then you didn't hear the real Remy. I've never heard a Remy review where he didn't tear the crowd a new hole.

  6. If he's awful why do you waste your time going? That would be like me going to hip-hop clubs over and over and complaining about it everytime...

I don't have any sympathy for bad choices. I enjoy his sets, granted he can't mix, and he doesn't usually spin any new tracks... but its still great music. For the most part I've never been disappointed with his set, I can't say that about Sander Kleinenberg or some of the other DJ's.

I stopped going to see Oakenfold by choice back in 99. Every time since then I've gone because the friends of mine going haven't seen him live before and want me to come along. I can still get into his sets and enjoy some of the classics he tends to put on, but technically, I think he's pitiful. Maybe I'm a hard critic, but I've been around the scene for a little while and I've heard alot of great dj's... Oakie isn't one of them.

  7. I can understand those that don't want to go anymore. My advice is to see him elsewhere... the 2 hours are good.

    I've seen him in:

    Toronto

    Montreal

    New York

    San Francisco

    Los Angeles

    London

    Ibiza

    Detroit

and he was awful and mostly overpriced every time I saw him. The whole over-charging thing really started around late 2000. I saw him quite a few times between 96 and 99 it didn't cost me my first born child. Again, 2 hour sets every time.

  8. HE WAS INTO IT, SOUND WAS GREAT, PLACE WAS INSANE, BUT CAME ON AT 2/OFF AT 4. GIMME A BREAK!!! 2 HOURS AT HIS ONLY NYC SHOW. PATHETIC. LIQ. TODD FOR 3 HOURS, NOT ENJOYABLE TO SAY THE LEAST. OH WELL ITS TOUGH TO GET LONG SETS OF QUALITY TRANCE IN NYC. PEACE. :type:

Paul Oakenfold doesn't like to spin live because he's not very good at it... This is from the word of mouth of a dj that has toured with him. You will never in your lifetime see him spin more than 2 hours.

    -Peter

  9. he usually only plays for 2 hours and not a minute more. I wouldn't expect a marathon set out of him...three hours if you're lucky

Take out the word 'usually' and you've nailed it. For as long as I've been clubbing and in all the cities in the world, including all my global clubbing friends, we can collectively see that we've never seen him play longer than 2 hours.

  10. i think luz has no clue. lol......................

ikon is huge & needs a bunch of different promoters that do different things to work in that space. the club itself gotta say is way nice................ i loved it. but there were alot of things that i could have done with out.

the door staff is one of them :( live n learn.................. you know where im going next weekend? the 4 year anniversary of stereo in montreal.

that shoudl be a hot party :)

& Gonzo rocks! & if you were going out in the 90's you would have known that.

4 years? The first time I went to Stereo was after they had been open for a few weeks and that was back in 98... so I think they've been around for 6 years. Or I could be mistaken!?

That being said, Stereo is a great club and much better than anything NY has to offer.

Check out Aria too if you get a chance... I think its better.

And if you like Stereo, a better bet is to check out Boa in Toronto. There's not a club in North America that can match that vibe at the moment, and the sound quality is Stereo-esque.

  11. so i am heading to Montral with 4 other girls and we want to make sure we are hitting the hot spots- where is the best place to go for hard house and dirty tech? best after hour spots?

    :letsgo:

514 productions throws a party every new years called Celebration thats definitely worth checking out. The lineups is usually stacked.

As for clubs, Aria and Stereo are both awesome... much better than anything NY has to offer these days.

  12. anyone know if he ever spun or will be spinning here. just listening to his essential mix again from earlier this year, his mixing is siiick. totally flawless transitions for like a min and a half, very deep progressive sound.

He used to spin at Arc from time to time... not so sure about recently though.

I do agree... he is a sick ass dj.

    -Peter

  13. its Mannahatta ;)

    and its no more...

we decided to end the party last night...

no matter who we brought in(Steve Porter, Danny Buddah Morales, Melvin Moore, PQM, LES, AstroGlyde, etc....) and no matter how much we promoted...

    ppl still would not show...

    AND it was free

Thursday suck in this city now, and it wasnt worth it for me to keep the party going. Too much work for a half filled room.

I miss Centro Thursdays too! Best Party I ever threw...ever since we stopped and Subliminal stopped at Discoteque Thursdays have been horrible in NYC, noone goes out :aaah:

Map props on Centro-thursday. That was a great party!!

    -Peter

  14. It depends on the clubs you go to regarding safety. Most of the clubs are safe to get in, and then you wont see a bouncer inside. As a result, some of these places have a real anything goes philosophy (eg. Camden Palace)... just think Tunnel (circa 96) but worse in some instances.

That being said, going alone is very safe, but plan to stay late because getting home might be a pain... the tube closes before 1am and restarts around 6 - 7 on sundays. Also, since your by yourself and a girl, your best bet is probably Fabric or Heaven (if their Thursday bedrock party is going on). Turnmills is pretty safe too and my favorite place was probably the fridge (only on certain nights). 'Scoring' at any of those places is ridiculously easy too.

Its too bad your stay is so short... The London club scene is out of this world and then some... NY (past/present/future) could never even come close to comparing.
