  3. Firstly let me apologize for the delay in posting updates recently. At this time we are beyond hectic getting things ready for our opening next week. Our days and nights are filled up with a never ending amount of work and finally we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (you'll get this joke when you enter the club) We are now finalizing all the details and hope to make an official announcement tomorrow as to the opening events and DJ line ups. Please know that we are all very excited to bring you this incredible new venue that we hope will meet everyone's expectations. Next week will see both the culmanation of two year's of planning and work and the beginning of a new and exciting time for Crobar. We thank you all for your patience and sometimes, animated and interesting opinions about the club. After next week we will begin a new journey with you and the rest of the clubbing community. Hopefully tomorrow you will see a post entitled "Official Crobar Announcement" with all the information regarding Opening nights. Peace and blessings to you all.
  4. Sorry but due to unforeseen circumstances, our opening is delayed to Friday December 12th. More details to follow tomorrow Crobar
  5. Bloomberg on the rampage!!! On his radio show he's made it clear he wants all bars & clubs in NY to close by 2am. For years the cabaret laws have been an undefined way to control & oppress the night life in NY. If that wasn't enough, Bloomberg is now planning to take that a big step further. On the surface it sounds like he's championing for the residents. So I would not be surprised if he get there full support & also on the surface someone might even think this is an improvement in the cabaret laws. But read between the lines, this is all about control. It mentions a public hearing they had in June 2003. Basically the people that were informed & invited were hand picked. & if you blink, this might be passed right under your nose. This will effect everybody! Just thought you should know. Please spread the news... > FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE > November 19, 2003 > > CONSUMER AFFAIRS COMMISSIONER GRETCHEN DYKSTRA > ANNOUNCES PROPOSAL TO ABOLISH THE CITY'S CABARET LAW > > DCA Proposes New 'Nightlife License' to Address Community Concerns > > New York City Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) Commissioner Gretchen > Dykstra today announced a proposal that would abolish the City's cabaret law > and institute a new nightlife license to address ongoing community concerns > including noise, disorderly crowds, and dirty sidewalks. The proposal, > unique in the nation, will require City Council approval. Under the > proposal, establishments meeting all three of the following criteria will be > required to obtain a two-year nightlife license from the DCA: > > * Located in residential and some mixed-use zones with a capacity of > more than 75 or in commercial, manufacturing, and mixed-use zones with a > capacity of more than 200. > * Choose to have continuous live or reproduced sound at a noise level > of 90 decibels or higher. > * Remain open after 1:00AM. > > Licensed nightlife establishments will be able to choose the noise level > they wish to maintain and must have a professional sound engineer certify > that they are in compliance with the City's Noise Code at that level. > > "New York City has the most exciting nightlife in the world," said DCA > Commissioner Gretchen Dykstra. "However, the cabaret law regulating > establishments with dancing does not effectively address what have become > perennial problems for communities and law enforcement. Regulations should > address problems, and we have found that the problems are consistently the > same -- noise emanating from establishments, disorderly crowds, and dirty > sidewalks. This proposal promotes a lively nightlife without requiring a > license to dance, and most importantly, it will improve the quality-of-life > in neighborhoods and strengthen enforcement to effectively deal with poorly > managed places." > > During the past year, the DCA has worked to review the existing law with > multiple government agencies, City Council members, and dozens of > cabaret/bar owners, noise consultants, community groups, dance > organizations, and other trade associations. In addition, the DCA held a > public hearing in June 2003 with expert panels and public testimony. > > > Highlights of the proposal include: > > * Establishments that meet the same criteria three times or less in > one year will be able to obtain an expedited special nightlife permit. > > * The proposal will not change existing fire and zoning regulations. > > * The local Community Boards will have a 45-day comment period to > report its recommendation on a new application. > > * Establishments with capacity levels of 500 or more occupants will be > required to have one state-certified security guard for every 50 occupants. > These guards would also be responsible for maintaining order outside the > establishment when needed. > > * Nightlife establishments must make a good faith effort to ensure > that the crowds entering or leaving do not cause disturbances and that > vehicles outside are quiet. In addition, establishments will be required to > keep the areas outside the establishment clean. > > * Following New York City Department of Environmental Protection > standards, the DCA will be authorized to enforce the Noise Code using > digital sound meters recognized by the industry. > > * DCA will be authorized to order occupants to vacate the premises > immediately if exit doors or fire doors are found blocked or locked. > > * Violations for licensees (which will include exceeding the chosen > noise level) would range up to $250 for the first violation and up to $1,000 > for the third violation. If a licensee receives three adjudicated license > violations within two years, DCA will be authorized to padlock the > establishment for up to 30 days. > > * DCA will be able to revoke a license if the location is repeatedly > in violation of any three of the following egregious City or State laws: > unlicensed sale of liquor; sale of liquor to minors; overcapacity; disabled > sprinkler systems, exit signs or emergency lighting; blocked or locked > exits; assault; rape or attempted rape; possessions of weapons; or homicide. > > > The City's Cabaret Law was promulgated in 1926 and currently covers > establishments that serve food and/or drink to the public and have patrons > dancing. 6. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who attended the Job Fair 2 weeks ago. At this time all positions have now been filled. We will however be conducting further job interviews sometime in the new year. See you all on December 5th
  7. An announcement will be made very shortly regarding all DJ and party line up's Crobar
  8. Still going through the 1700 applications received at the Job Fair
  9. More changes and the countdown to December 5th continues.
  10. On behalf of Kenny and Cal and all the staff, volunteers and interns we would like to thank everyone who attended this weekends Crobar Job Fair. The response on both days was overwhelming and far exceeded our expectations. Lines up the street and a cast of real characters showed up for a chance to be a part of Crobar. We will now go through the thousands of applications submitted and hope to contact people in the next coming weeks. Thank you all once again for making this event so much fun for us and hopefully for you too. CROBAR NYC
  11. Thanks for your opinion. In a way you are right but in the days of hearing about parties through friends, there was no Internet. I'm talking about the 80's and to an extent the early 90's Now however we have the Internet and it has opened up the global community to a level unthinkable a few years ago. This board is a good example of how the clubbing public and the clubs themselves can have a rapport and discuss the issues in a way that was previously impossible. If you think a club or DJ or Promoter sucks, you post it up on a board and millions of readers will see it in a matter of minutes. Thats a pretty powerful tool, but also it elliminates the very thing you were describing. The masses are going to know and hear about something as well as everyone else, Both cool and uncool are in the same loop now. Therefore my point is that it would be impossible to try and cater to one specific group and elliminate another. Crobar is not trying to be anything but a good place for entertainment and community and to try and correct the mistakes of the past. To make the experience both enjoyable and worthwhile. Some will love it and some will hate it but all we can do is try to make it work. Whoever comes is up to them.
  12. Although some people may not need an audition (in your opinion) we would not hire someone on just their reputation. As regards to your comment about Cal Fortis, well I guess we are all entitled to our opinions. Please know however that Cal has invested a lot of time and money into creating an experience that will be both innovative and refreshing. He has brought in a huge talent of creative people that are very dedicated in making Crobar something we will all be proud of. Building Crobar NYC is not down to 1 single person but a team of individuals who all have their part to play in the process. This is from the door person to the DJ to the bartenders etc etc. Learning from our mistakes is what will help us improve service, although I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the staff of Crobar NYC. If after we are open you feel things are not correct, then simply bring your issues to the attention of management and we will do our best to correct any problems. As far as your comments about the door in Miami, we will bring these to the attention of the management and hope your future experience is much better. Crobar NYC
  13. I think you are confusing us with the other space up the block. We are definitely Crobar NYC
  14. Opening date has been pushed back to December 5th. This is due to certain sound system equipment that cannot be delivered by end of November
  15. positions on offer are for waitresses, waiters, bartenders, barbacks, cleaners, hostesses, runners, coatcheck, door people, cashiers, reservations. Absolutely NOT DJ's.

NO FAXES or PHONE CALLS Please Good luck
  17. We are simply posting a teaser clock countdown to the opening of Crobar. If you have to move the message why not indicate that it's been moved like you do with other posts. It seems from reading other posts that you clearly have your favorites and allow some posters more freedom than others. Crobar NYC
  18. AMAZING! These stories get funnier and funnier. Tell your friend whose looking to get the security for our club that spreading these kinds of rumors will not help him get the job? Anyway just to clarify, the construction has stopped because the work is almost done. we are now in the final stages of work which now includes fitting the furniture, painting, Installing the sound system, lights and fixtures. We are still planning on opening November 20th which may change by a few days. but the CROBAR is almost complete. I have to say that when we read these stories from the Crobar office, it just makes us laugh at what rubbish people love to spread around.
  19. B&S would be offered the main room and any Sunday afternoon party would also be in the main room.
  20. John Davis will most likely have control of Sunday Afternoon's at Crobar possibly beginning in the New Year. We have also offered John the space for a possible Body & SOUL Reunion party in the near future. Sunday party will not begin till after the New Year however.
  21. Well just to straighten out some misconceptions here. We did not announce to anyone any dates until just recently. Leaks or rather false rumors started popping up on boards like this and others by people claiming to be from the company or from the scene. Add to that the fact that almost every week, page 6 of the post was reporting some opening date or fall out between the partners, owners or construction crews. The truth is that from the beginning we have stayed away from reporting on any aspect of the club opening but as there is so much buzz about new clubs opening in NYC that people felt the need to repot things on our behalf. The official opening date we are giving people is Thursday November 20th which is 6 weeks from today. Now this is the fist time we have announced a date and it's possible that this date could change as we get nearer but only by a few days. At this time it's still November 20th so please be patient and let us do what we need to do to open on time. CROBAR NYC
