  1. Just for clarification: the only cops I associate with can be found at www.leap.cc and they are not at all interested in clubbers. If you actually want to take part in my study, I will email you my name and the name of my adviser, as well as all of our contact info.
  2. I am a grad student writing my thesis about clubbers in NYC who go to megaclubs (like the ones mentioned in the subject line). Megaclubs - because they are big and commercial and "anti-underground" - cause a lot of debates within the dance music community, and yet many people still experience dance music at them, not just in New York but globally. I am looking for people who currently go out to these places. That doesn't mean that you go to these clubs to the exclusion of all other venues, but that you've been to one or more of them at least 6-7 times in 2006 - and plan to go again in 2007. (And I know Spirit and Avalon are now closed - hopefully not Crobar too.) You also have to be willing to do an in-person, sound recorded interview with me. I will be asking about how you got into dance music, your drug use (past and current), other clubs you go to / went to, and your thoughts about the music & dancing. Obviously it will all be confidential. I don't post here that often (more of a lurker) but this is for real. If you're interested, or have more questions, please email me at nycdancestudy@gmail.com I will send you more information about my project, including all the boring official stuff like my name & my adviser's name, release forms, etc. Advance apologies because I might have to re-post this in a couple of days.
  3. Hooray! Would this panel truly be a success without ShortyStar? I think not...
  4. Hmmm, well I'm gonna have to go with no, since last time I checked ecstasy was still illegal...
  5. For anyone interested in honest discussion about drug use. Oh yeah, and watching some clips from movies that show people rolling... "Ecstasy Onscreen: MDMA Use in Movies" Film Festival/Discussion panel the Westin Long Beach 333 E. Ocean Blvd. Long Beach, CA 90802 (Barcelona/Casablanca room) Thursday, November 10th at 9pm only $5 to attend! This is part of the larger International Drug Policy Reform Conference, and you can find details about that at www.drugpolicy.org/conference. I will be showing clips from popular movies (including Go, Human Traffic, Garden State and others) all the way down to independently shot documentaries in clubs and unreleased indie films. A couple of the filmmakers will be there to speak, as well as the head of LA's Dance Safe chapter and a local club promoter. Please come out if you have opinions about how your scene (and its main drug) is portrayed in film, both past and present. And if you like fun. PS -- at 8:30 we are screening a documentary called The Last Two Seconds about Dr. Alexander Shulgin and his wife Ann. Come early if you can! For questions or info email dancergoddess@gmail.com.
  6. Just wanted to get the info out to interested parties: if you ever go or are planning to go to Spundae/Godskitchen stuff and want to get in for a discount, email me at dancergoddess@hotmail.com.
