  3. Top Down Productions and Menage are proud to present...yup, yup believe it... FREESTYLERS-DJ set-featuring Aston Harvey Freestylers' sound is exactly as their name suggests: a heady blend of brash, hip-hop-inspired grooves resulting in a hypersonic amalgamation that knows no barriers. Born and raised in London, a city steeped in British, West Indian, African, and Asian influences, producers Aston Harvey and Matt Cantor, don't believe in being confined to musical styles. Though breakbeats lay the foundation for their music, anything can enter the mix: drum & bass, dancehall vocals, house rhythms, electro and hip-hop. Flitting between the grooves of dance, reggae and hip-hop styles, Freestylers craft a raw yet infectious aural melting pot that shakes dance floors and headphones around the globe. More old-school hip-hop, electro and ragga than big-beat techno (though they're often pigeon-holed that way), the Freestylers were formed by the trio of Matt Cantor, Aston Harvey and Andrew Galea. All three were British b-boys back in the day, and were heavily involved in Britain's dance scene by the late '80s, both as DJs and producers -- Cantor recording as Cut'n'Paste, 2 Fat Buddhas and Freska All Stars among others, Harvey as Blapps! Posse (author of the 1990 breakbeat classic "Don't Hold Back"). Harvey had also worked with Rebel MC and Definition of Sound, but after meeting Galea, the pair began recording together as Sol Brothers and soon brought Cantor into the fold as well. Taking the name Freestylers from their first sample (Freestyle's "Don't Stop the Rock"), the trio released their first single, "Drop the Boom (AK-48)" and formed their own Scratch City Records to release it. The track was a prime slice of vocoderized electro, and became an underground club classic as far afield as bass-driven Miami. The Freestyle EP followed late in 1996, and Freestylers also released singles on Freskanova (home of Cantor's many solo projects). The group even managed a chart hit (and Top of the Pops appearance) with 1998's "B-Boy Stance," a collaboration with vocalist Tenor Fly. A spate of remixing followed, for Audioweb, Afrika Bambaataa and the Jungle Brothers (the latter a pair of the Freestylers' prime influences). The trio also helmed the big-beat compilation FSUK 2 and contributed a Radio One Essential Mix (where Beenie Man, Public Enemy, the Fall and Whodini all rubbed elbows). Live appearances at Glastonbury and around the European festival circuit met with much praise, and the Freestylers finally released their debut album We Rock Hard in 1999. The mix album Electro Science followed a year later. Don't miss the only date outside of the WMC @ Menage!! Ahhh the power of the :kitty: With: AARON SIGMON Aaron Sigmon has quickly become one of the driving forces of the breakbeat movement in the US. 5. Top Down Productions is proud to present...the grand finale in the Summer Streak! series.... THE FUTURE SOUND OF BREAKS~ The OFFICIAL party straight from the 2005 Winter Music Conference, featuring artists on The Future Sound of Breaks CD~ DYNAMIX II~ Miami's David Noller and Scott Weiser, aka Dynamix II, are among a very few of the first wave of American electro and bass music artists to have successfully translated their old-school credentials into new-school relevance. The producers behind classic roof-raisers "Bass Generator," "Ignition," and "Just Give the DJ a Break," Noller and Weiser carved out a signature niche in early electro with a kitchen-sink-style megamix approach, amplifying electro's energy level, deepening the low-end, and playing up its robotic themes with ample vocoded vocals and squirty electronics. The group formed in 1985 after Noller, a local DJ who had recently started making tracks, met Weiser and the two began building a studio together. Noller was signed to Bass Station records at the time, and Dynamix appeared through a handful of other Miami labels before the pair set up their eponymous imprint in 1988. Although mostly of only local interest beginning in the late '80s, when electro died out in favor of rap, the determined group decided to forge foreward into the future releasing thier "Electro Bass" music and vowing to remain firmly rooted in the underground dance music scene. Nearly a decade later, U.K.-based label Rephlex -- owned by Richard James, aka Aphex Twin -- reissued lectro Megamix: 1985-Present, an all-in-one-place collection of their biggest tunes from over the years, and originally released on the Joey Boy label in 1997. A stream of new material has appeared since then, including "We Are Your Future" and "The Plastic Men," both through Joey Boy. A collaboration with British producer Ian Loveday, aka Eon, also appeared through Wax Trax/TVT in 1999. Additionally, Dynamix II have remixed fellow Florida group Rabbit in the Moon and Expansion Union. Most of their LPs and singles from throughout the years remained in print. CHRIS CARTER~ Musician, Producer and DJ, Chris Carter learned his engineering skills while at the legendary ON U SOUND working with the likes of Adrian Sherwood, Little Axe, Asian Dub Foundation, Audio Active and Bim Sherman. Since starting to produce his own music in 1997, he has had a steady stream of releases on a number UK based breaks labels. Jointly responsible (with BLIM) for one of the break scene’s biggest vocal tracks (as Kasha on ’U’, featuring Shara Nelson) he has since had releases on TCR, Botchit + Scarper, Forged, En:Vision, Secret Agent and Track Records amongst others, earning him a reputation as a master of well-crafted dancefloor tunes. His tracks have been included on compilations such as the ‘Botchit Breaks’ albums, ’Modernizm’ mixed by BLIM, ‘Nu Breed’ mixed by Lee Burridge, Y4K mixed by Koma&Bones, TCR50, 'Tribalizm' mixed by Rennie Pilgrem and Meat Katie’s Bedrock Breaks. In 2004 a mix CD of his own, 'Apply The Breaks' was released on Botchit, showcasing upcoming material drawn only from that label. Remix work includes tracks for Forged, Botchit, Cup of Chi, En:Vision, Passenger and most recently as Roxiller on Sober Records. In 2005 he has co-established the Record Records label, intended as as outlet for his own material, as well as Roxiller - his joint studio project with JHz - and other future collaborations. Roxiller have also recently contributed music for the new Sony PSP game 'Wipeout'. Chris has now established himself as a popular DJ and has toured all over Europe aswell as the USA, Japan and Australia. His mixes have been heard on radio stations such as Radio1, Kiss, Ministry, Groovetech and stations across Europe. DJ fans of Carter include Rennie Pilgrem, BLIM, Laurent Garnier, Adam Freeland, Meat Katie, Hybrid, and Koma + Bones to name but a few. STORM and TREVOR ROCKWELL~ These two have been creating a huge buzz within the electronic music industry with the release of their new CD "Future Sound of Breaks" which is currently available in major markets nationally. Having headlined the biggest events our scene has to offer such as Ultra Music Festival which hosts over 35,000 people each year, Storm & Trevor will be bringing their unique style of hard hitting Electro Bass & high energy Nu Skool Breaks to the North Carolina massive! And in the true style of The Future Sound of Breaks, it's going to be breaks in you face all night kiddies!
