Seen it and heard it all.
I am from Detroit, so i know well about its contributions.
All this talk about club culture, and we leave out one very important name FRANKIE BONES.
He is the one that brought the current party atmosphere and style to the United States, and he brought it from the UK, which had been having those sorts of parties for a while.
You are talking more about the R&B or DISCO house, things like studio54, etc.
I think todays scene is much more rooted in the Rave Culture, whose techno sounds were started in Detroit, the sound was brought to europe, and the culture was imported to america, more specifically Brooklyn in 1990.
I was a NASA baby myself, a little too young to really know what is being talked about here. But it is still a good read, and all the stuff about people playing the wall and showing up to be seen and not to dance almost brings a tear to my eye.
I also have to agree that you shouldn't write something like this about the NY dance scene and leave Frankie Bones out. Some love him, some hate, most are somewhere in between, but leaving him out is like writing about NY sports and leaving out Steinbrenner or Wellington Mara.

agree to disagree... i dont really buy it.. i think it's a shallow crowd for the most part and i think if you were to somehow get the hot chicks that go to see boris to do something else most people would jump ship as well.. just my opinion though..
Boris benefits a lot from the people who will go to a party just because they think everyone else is going to that party. I went to catch Boris for my boy's B-day a few months ago, and we were there for maybe 4 hours. There were tracks he spun 2 and 3 times, in a 4 hour timespan. Not 3 different mixes of a track, the same damn track 3 times. And I wasn't fucked up on anything besides a few beers, so I am damn sure this was the case. I got no love for a DJ that pulls that, especially with the kind of dough and fame he is getting these days.

Hell yea it was off the hook! Rogers and Zabiela had me and my people getting down on some old wildstyle crazy-legs type vibe. The floor stayed packed the whole time we were there.

Word. I go out to chill with my friends, to meet people, to have a few drinks or whatever, sure. But I mainly go to DANCE to the music. You betta believe that unless it is an ultra special occasion, I am rocking my New Balances. I have no problem at all with looking good and dressing proper... but come on, if you are there to dance you have to have the appropriate footwear.

There are too many parts of this story that don't add up. I don't claim to know exactly what happened, I claim that none of us know (or probably ever will know) exactly what happened. All I'm saying is that the official version of this story is hogwash.

What we do know is that 2 planes flew into the building which started a fire. We also know that shortly after that, the buildings collapsed. To me the most likely story is that the planes caused the collapse!

I didn't see anywhere these posts that you have evidence that Al Qaida was the ones who brought down the building with bombs in addition to airplanes.
Thus if it is not Al Qaida, then it was someone else and then it IS a coincidence that they choose to do this on the same day.

When Osama was caught confessing on video tape, he didn't mention the hidden bombs. he also mentioned that he didn't think the whole building would collapse nor was that his intention.

Do you have reading comprehension problems? No one is saying it is a coincidence.
And I really don't see what anyone's sex life has to do with whether or not the official version of the events of 9/11/01 are the actual truth.
I don't see why it is so hard to simply say "I believe X or don't believe Y" instead of resorting to childish insults about being crazy and not getting laid.

Yes, the place is wack, but it has less to do with Pacha itself and more to do with the people that go there. Its like Disneyland... all tourists. Its Deko North. Its people trying to pretend its still SF. I have no choice, I have to go on Saturday. I just hope the bridge and tunnel people go somewhere else that night.
Fact of the matter is, if you give up a dope space like that to corny people, the management has to continue to try to pull in the corny people to break even. Now, I understand that store owners are going to have to account for all of this merch once things settle down... but to call someone who takes food and water when there is no one there to sell it a thief or a looter is ridiculous. Certainly, the people who helped themselves to clothing, jewelry, cash, etc. are in the wrong, but to refer to those that are merely doing what they have to do to feed themselves and their loved ones in a disaster area as criminals is insulting and borders on the insane.

What a travesty.
I'm not going to play stupid and deny that there might have been some drug use and/or underage attendees - but there is a HUGE difference between shutting down a party by pulling the plug, and shutting down a party by holding automatic weapons on the DJs and promoters to make them shut down. Not to mention issuing beatdowns and arrests to people that just wanted to dance and didn't want to have their cameras confiscated.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that most if not all of the people in attendance (as well as the promoters and DJs) support the local and state police in some fashion through paying taxes. They are also mostly if not all legal US citizens... so is THIS what we pay for as taxpayers? We pay to have some meatheads tear gas us, rob us for our cameras, bumrush unarmed girls, and generally ruin a good time - and then laugh about it because they are getting overtime.
I am very thankful that the local cops here in NYC have never been quite THAT aggressive in shutting down a party - enforcing the law (however much some of us disagree with the law) is the job of the police.. . but to use that much force to scatter a bunch of partiers in a canyon, and to revel in violating their rights like that, is completely irresponsible, immature, and disgusting. And we pay people like this to protect us.
