Deekline also runs various club nights, mainly in London, including Bounce at Bar Rhumba, which is now infamous as the UK’s no.1 booty bouncing event. His remixes span everyone from Armand Van Heldon, Old Dirty Bastard, Stereo Mcs, and Freesylers. His last track ‘Fame & The Money’ (which was made under the Booty Bouncer title with Wizard) was play listed on MTV . ‘Touch Your Toes’ was signed to Norman Cook’s ‘Skint’ label and went on to full release in the summer of 2006 and in the last year Deekline has been behind some of the biggest selling break beat anthems the scene has ever witnessed, such as the ‘Outta Space’ boot leg which went on to get signed by German label ‘Super Star’, the ‘Boom Blast’ remix for Freestylers and the Armand Van Heldon remix ‘My My My’, Zane Lowes tune of the week on Radio One and one of the best remixes of the year. 8. ESSENTIAL BREAKS - THE ROGUE ELEMENT Friday December 29th 2006 @ CLUB FIVE -- Featuring -- - THE ROGUE ELEMENT [ FAT Records | Exceptional Records | Rogue Rock | TheRogueElement.net | UK ] The Rogue Element is 27-year old producer Ben Medcalf. His fascination with music began with piano lessons at the age of seven, moving through various different instruments until his early teens, when he settled down behind the drum kit and started his first band. This band proved to be the embryonic stages of more than just Ben's career: playing guitars was the future electro-house producer and DJ King Roc, and on bass guitar was Jarman, now a successful drum and bass DJ and producer signed to Renegade Hardware. Since signing a two-album deal with the reputable and eclectic Exceptional Records in 2004, The Rogue Element has taken the breakbeat world by storm. A string of singles received instant support from the Plump DJs, Freestylers, Stanton Warriors, Krafty Kuts, The Crystal Method, Hyper and Rennie Pilgrem and culminated in Ben being awarded the 'Best Breakthrough Producer' award at the prestigious Breakspoll International Breakbeat Awards at Fabric. In addition to this the acclaimed debut album 'Rogue Rock' was released in September 2005, which received a nomination for 'Best Album'. 12. I've been working in this scene for over 10 years and going out for almost 12. thing shave come and gone... low periods and high periods. remeber in 1997-1998(mid) when there was a party slup for about 4-6 months... When parties like Pollon, Deep, Urban Space, Cloud Watch and some tracks events were slow, fizzled out or only started doing special events.... there wasn't parties at the edge every weekend... I remember going to buzz and their being as many people there as on a "regular" night at Cubik. it's like a recession. the reason things are slow... is because of all of us. Because you think it's slow and doen't go out the people that do go out see less people and won't go out the next time. Buzz was the glue that held DC together. i've heard from many people that, " buzz is gone... i'm taking a break for a bit..." And now because of that it looks dead... the "dead scene" was in 2002 or 2003... OMG Sat edge parties with like 300 there? WTF Black Majik 3 only had like i wana say 800(estimated) paying people that year which day and night compared to the thousands of patrons in the 2 previous years. If you want this scene to pick back up... Introduce young people to it... educate them about it... the 21 and under crowd are "Anti-Drug" Kids, so the "R" word is a no no. It's Breaks, House, Drum & Bass, Garage.. whatever... music. Without refilling the ranks we have slipped into another slight slump. Chads right. the people have been saying that sine the early 90's, because it's true. the REAL RAVE(Orbit, Catostrophic, Storm Raves, Modern Music Parties.. ect.) scene died in 92-93 when the cops were cracking down on them big time. There were Raves after this but this started the big migration to clubs. just my .02 The scene is what you make of it... Tansit Last wed. Had such a RAVE Vibe to me. Everyone one was so free spirited and happy, enjoying the music. it was a great night! that's what it's bout. 13. [ FIVE SPOT ] Breaks & House Monthly Wednesday September 13th 2006 @ CLUB FIVE -- Featuring DJ's -- - WES SMITH [ Juice Records | "Juiced" The Party | NY / FL ] In the early days, Wes Smith headed up the Day One Rave during the Summer of 1993 in Gainesville, FL. AK1200 was the headliner, DJ Debbie D played her first gig and Chang rounded out the House. 1200 people paid to get in and a bunch jumped the fence. This was one of Florida's largest one-off warehouse events of the time period. In 1994 he teamed up with Leon Kung to form Juice Productions. The pair threw a number of large parties bringing in national, regional and local DJ's to provide the vibes. Talent included: Andy Hughes, Baby Anne, Boyd Westerman, Chris Fortier, DB, DJ Debbie D, DJ Icey, Huda Hudia, Frankie Bones, Josh Wink, Kimball Collins, Kyle Hogan, Lieven DeGeyndt, Micro, Scott Henry, Tomas Joseph and more! This led to some great DJ days with the Repertory Theatre creations by Tomas Joseph and Gisela Viera as well as appearances for DJ Icey and DJ Sandy during the hey day of Orlando Florida's Edge Nightclub. In 1995 he moved to Washington, DC where started out at Scott Henry and Lieven's Buzz. He has DJ'd there over 20 times along with greats like DJ Dan, DJ Icey, DJ Who, Kimball Collins, Paul Van Dyk & Simply Jeff including a set at Scott Henry's BUZZ, CD release party. During that same time he has DJ'd for a number of other DC nights such as Karl Mathew's Glide and the DEEP parties by the Catastrophic Crew. Amidst holding a several month residency at Recharge in DC, there have also been a few DJ Journeys. Favorite trips have included a few stops at Simon's, DJing with Mark Sanchez at 600 North in Daytona Beach, a LUCID party in Atlanta with Kelly Reverb and the E-Entertainment weekend at Denver's Alleycat with fellow Juice Recordings artist Lil Rob. He has DJ'd throughout the DC scene including nights at Sting/Buzz, Mango, Red, Bar Nun and various one off's by M3 and D-Tribe. He is part of the D-Tribe Crew who has hosted some of the DC areas largest one-off raves such as Breakdown, Good Times & Jive Turkey. Continuing his mission to spread the broken beats, Wes is currently living in the East Village of New York City, NY and running the Juice headquarters located in a downtown SOHO loft.
