Available for purchase at: h_music'>www.beatport.com www.stompy.com www.primalrecords.com www.junodownload.com SANTIAGO & BUSHIDO (Chicago) Potty Mouth Music *****Download SANTIAGOS Potty Mouth Winter Mix! *****Download BUSHIDOS Potty Mouth Summer Mix! With their blend of big basslines and vocals, Santiago & Bushido are a filthy addition the Potty Mouth Music roster. Since teaming up as a production duo in 2001, Chris Santiago and Tim Bushido have elevated the art of electronic jack to encompass many influences, from the hard hitting to the deep and soulful. At the core of Santiago & Bushido’s sound lays the forward thinking, funk-tech that has given them critical moxie in Chicago and beyond. As products of the mid ’90s rave scene, the DJ/producers grew up immersed in a community that they would soon become their professional careers. Bushido picked up djing at an early age and got deep into the art of production. Experimenting with hip hop at the start, he slowly ebbed into house production, thanks in part to his work at Chicago Recording Company. Sharing the same recording space with the likes of R.Kelly and Smashing Pumpkins, Bushido honed his engineering and production prowess until opportunity knocked. While Bushido was mastering his craft, Santiago was working his way up the Chicago’s nightlife hierarchy. Within one year of playing live gigs, he secured a Friday night residency at Zentra Nightclub. The renowned “Jack Fridays†have continued to attract underground house crowds for more than six years, with crowds still going off weekly. Santiago’s presence in the Chicago house community reaches even further with his involvement in the House Arrest promotion group, which continues to host some of the scene’s most well attended parties. As producers, Santiago & Bushido draw influences from their straight house background and apply harder and heavier elements to the sound. “We get really deep into the tracks we’re producing, flip them and cut them in so many different ways, all to get the heaviest groove possible,†Bushido says. Since collaborating, they have dropped numerous EP’s and remixes on some of House Music’s most well respected label including Robsoul, Control Recordings and Black Cherry, to name a few. The duo’s smash release “What Your Name?†on Robsoul continues to enjoy heavy rotation on the global house scene. In addition to their Potty Mouth debut, the duo recently finished work on Colette’s new album “Pushâ€, slated for August release on OM Records. They wrote and produced the album’s second slotted single, “If,†which they also remixed for a separate release. Already generating a buzz in the house community, “If†also features its own music video which will align with the release. Santiago & Bushido’s recent inclusion in the Potty Mouth family aligns with the duo’s production and performance philosophies. “One thing about us is we’re not afraid to do a deep track or a totally hardcore track…as long as it works on the dance floor and is pushing the sound forward, it works for us.†Given the tech-funk inflection of their forthcoming release, the nastier the duo delves, the better they beat. THE BULGARIAN (UK) Potty Mouth Music *****Download THE BULGARIANS Potty Mouth Summer Mix! The Bulgarian is the business of dropping big beats, both on and off the Potty Mouth Music roster. With a production career that spans more than 10 years, his first release as The Bulgarian in December 2006 quickly became a best seller for the Second Session label on djdownload.com. Since then, hes taken his bass-heavy, fidget house sound to some of the most respected artists in the business. The Bulgarians road to success began 10 years ago in Cape Town, South Africa. Here, he discovered his passion for making music in his computer. In 2003, he volunteered to help out at the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy in Cape Town, where he immersed himself in varied genres of electronic music. With his new exposure, The Bulgarian ditched his dnb sound to open up a music studio. After two-and-a-half years of moderate success and a European holiday packed with inspiration, the aspiring producer decided it was time to shake things up by focusing on his productionsand thus was born The Bulgarian. The success of his Second Session release as The Bulgarian, led him to him signing an EP onto Londons On the Brink Recordings. Additionally, the glitch-heavy remix of the original Troydon track I Wanna Tell Ya continues to haunt club audiences with its hollow vocals backed by his relentless reworked bass. The Bulgarians artistic inspiration carries over into production work as Mr.Elastik, a more minimal-inspired sound with a techno make-up. He also collaborates with his former studio partner as Tone Deaf Junkies, who released their debut album last year. Its eclectic electronic style ranges from glitch to electrostep dnb, along with a new self-dubbed sound The Bulgarian calls Kwaitech. Its a tech derivative of South Africas native Kwaito sound, he says. In addition to his success in the studio, The Bulgarian has held numerous club residencies, including Voltage in Cape Town and Homegrown at Mercury Live. In May 2007, he was featured on Andy Macs prestigious Cream Radio show, where he joined the mixing ranks of some of the worlds most acclaimed DJs and producers. His self-recorded Slutty Fringe Selection mix also enjoyed a 7,000 downloads in its first two weeks as an internet blog release. The Bulgarian finds a place on the Potty Mouth Roster with help from his unconventional thump-and-bump sound. Using elements of glitch, sleaze and tech, The Bulgarian deconstructs conventional house and remasters the beats with what he calls mad lines. I bring a unique kind of mental craziness to the sound with lots of big bass and hungry energy, he says. Its fidget house that buzzes as loudly as the peak-hour dance floor. 11. Monday, December 31 @ Smart Bar Chicago "The Year of the Fidget" Dubsided & Potty Mouth welcome New Years Eve 2008 with… SWITCH * JUSTIN LONG * SANTIAGO * JAMES AMATO 21 & Over / Doors: 9PM / Show: 9PM After a year of extraordinary events from Smart Bar in celebration of Metro/Smart Bar’s 25th anniversary, Smart Bar ends the year with another very special event. As part of Smart Bar’s 25th anniversary celebrations, Switch will ring in 2008 for Smart Bar patrons on December 31, 2007. When the clock strikes midnight, you’ll want to be there! From his incendiary DJ sets across the globe to his remixes and productions, Dave, aka Switch and also known as Solid Groove, has created his own type of innovative jacking house that draws from all the best bits of electronic music. Most recently, Switch played to enthralled crowds at Metro this past fall, and those that were there know why Switch has been called one of the hottest DJs in 2007… and why he’s the perfect choice to celebrate New Year’s Eve at Smart Bar. A producer, remixer, and DJ, Switch has produced for artists including M.I.A., remixed tracks from P Diddy, Nine Inch Nails, Basement Jaxx, Lily Allen, X-Press 2 and Bugz in the Attic, an continues to work on his own Switch and Solid Groove album projects. His Dubsided label continues to flourish, releasing his own music as well as that from house music’s brightest young stars. He maintains a regular residency in his home country at legendary U.K. club Fabric, but travels the world regularly in search of exciting new music. Closing out the night after Switch is Justin Long, a longtime resident of Smart Bar and one of Chicago’s house music pioneers. From his beginnings at age fifteen with Chicago pioneers like Derreick Carter and Traxx, to his founding of Q101’s Sonic Boom mix show, to his tours across the world, Justin Long is one of the strongest ambassadors of the Chicago house sound. He also works in the studio with Dan X as No Assembly Firm, where they have completed original and remix work for labels such as Classic, Music For Freaks, and Greens Keepers Music. Justin runs his own record label, Dotbleep, which is also the name of his monthly residency at Smart Bar. In the next year, Justin will be heard on the XM radio show Dotbleep. Justin Long’s sometime collaborator Santiago will also spin, opening up the night with James Amato. Santiago is a Chicagoan who began DJing at the young age of 20 and has risen to become Zentra Nightclub’s house resident for the past five years. From the smooth melodic deep end to harder techie-r sides of house; Santiago touches both ends of the House spectrum in his sets. His energetic persona exemplifies his love for the music and the scene. As a producer, Santiago has had a strong collaboration with Tim Bush as Santiago & Bushido and have released music and remixes for labels and artists including No Assembly Firm, CPEN, DJ Heather and Johnny Fiasco. Starting off the night with Santiago is Smart Bar’s own James Amato. James balances the roles of DJ, promoter and producer with a grassroots approach to music. With history promoting and spinning at Milwaukee’s Pure Nightclub as well as Mantra Lounge, plus experience running the Neighborhood House Watch and Potty Mouth Music labels, James has become a powerhouse of the electronic music scene. James’ balance of bass, bump and organic rhythms create peak-hour tracks that fill dance floors. Currently the music director for Smart Bar, James will start New Year’s Eve night off right! DJ FAME (New York) Potty Mouth Music *****Download DJ FAMES Potty Mouth Summer Mix! DJ Fame’s electro and tech house influences find an easy fit among the artists on Potty Mouth Music. As a DJ, Fame’s intense cuts, crazy loops and live turntablism have reinvented movement on the dance floor. As a producer, Fame has earned his way onto the genre’s premiere labels, including the UK-based Dubsided. Staking claim as the only American producer on the roster, Fame’s title track of the EP “Name It X†has made it to the crates of Richie Hawtin, Jess Rose, Jimpster and Switch, among others. In addition to his success in and out of the studio, Fame has held down several New York residencies including his flagship residency at Sullivan Room, which began in 2003. During his tenure, he released his first compilation for the club, “Sullivan Room Volume 1.†Fame has been making the masses wiggle and bounce for more than 12 years. His seemingly electric energy on the decks matches the tone of his original tracks. Electro, jacking, techy, funky—nothing is off limits for Fame, who has taken his sound to across Europe, the UK, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and even as far as Russia. Fame’s brash sound and on-the-fly loops have made him one of the most exciting DJs to hit the global tech house scene in the past decade. Aside from his recent Potty Mouth releases, Fame has spent the past few years working on originals and remixes for NOSI Music, Inuendo and Dusk. In early 2006, he first collaborated with Gaby Dershin (one-half of Bedrock artist Astro&Glyde) on a project called, Bit Crushers. The production duo’s first few tracks earned them two slots on the Balance Record Pool June 2007 chart. “Love Takes So Long†and “Sick Thing to Do†each ranked, along with enjoying air time from DeepDish, John Digweed and Lee Cabrera. The ongoing vibe at “The Review,†a regular event hosted by Fame, has become a seminal spot for the New York tech house scene since 2004. “I consider my tracks to have a jackin, electro bump to them … always with a taste of funkiness to keep the heads boppin. I write specifically with the dance floor in mind,†he says. With the bass, hints of NYC techiness emerge, along with hip hop samples and a funky bounce that demands a little wiggle room.
