Franchise 01 CD Release Tour w/ JT Donaldson Friday, February 9 2007 in the Lair of Vision Nightclub!! OM artist JT Donaldson is rolling through Chicago in celebration of his upcoming CD, Franchise Player 01. From Amazon.com... Only the best can be deemed a "Franchise Player" - Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, David Beckham, Kobe, Babe Ruth, each one of them the best in their field and the ones you always want on your side. Well, we're adding some new names to the list starting with JT Donaldson. JT is the classic triple threat - a skilled DJ, Producer & Remixer who logs countless miles DJing from Sydney to San Francisco. So it's only right that we kick off this new compilation series with one of the best. The Franchise Player sound is the sound of the underground. This isn't music for glamorous ultra-clubs and their overpriced bottle-service. This is music for the true believers. The sound is deep and melodic but always tough, gritty and guaranteed to make you move. JT DONALDSON [OM, Deepfunk Records] JT Donaldson has been producing since the birth of Dallas' Fairpark Records in 1997. He has produced deep, soulful house music for labels such as Cajual, Cyclo, Distance, Seasons, Push & Pull, and Viva to name a few. He has worked with artists like Lance DeSardi, CPEN, Tim Shumaker of Home and Garden, Sandy Rivera of Kings Of Tomorrow, Chris Nazuka, Lo Soul, The Freaks, and house legend Chez Damier. As a co-founder and in house producer for Fairpark, JT moved to Chicago from Dallas after the label took a hiatus. After recording an album for Seasons in Los Angeles, he moved again, this time to the left coast where he was working with Lance DeSardi and Chris Penny aka CPENN. Currently he resides in Chicago where he has started his new record label with co-owner Tim Shumaker called, Gallery Music Group. J.T.'s "Musical Violation" was a highlight of Deepfunk’s Inner City Experience, Volume 1. He has been able to share the music through DJing, producing, and now with his new label featuring remixers and artists like 2nd Shift, Home & Garden, Derrick Carter, Lance DeSardi, PTy LTd, Slater Hogan & John Larner, and Joshua. JT’ s music has been in demand world wide and has taken him to places like South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, South Korea, Germany, Norway, France, Belgium, Turkey, The U.K. and many others. www.discogs.com/artist/J.T.+Donaldson www.deepfunkrecords.com/jt.html LENNOX [Faderwave.net, DJForums.com, AMP] Always a big fan of electronic music since the early 90's, Lennox began spinning at the age of 12 in Houston, Texas. After moving away from Houston a couple years later an unfortunate lack of vinyl in his new found city caused him to temporarily put down the turntables. After moving to Chicago four years ago, Lennox quickly became absorbed in the local club scene. Noticing an abundance of quality music at the local record shops, such as Gramaphone, Lennox renewed his interest in what he started 10 years earlier. He quickly picked up where he left off and hasn't stopped since. The style developed by Lennox is a mix of dirty electro combined with a bitof tech-house and progressive sounds. He does not try to categorize or limit his sound to a certain genre. Constantly on the search for the freshest sounds his addiction to music is never satisfied. His musical influences include such artists as D Ramirez, King Unique, John Dahlback, Eric Prydz (Pryda & Cirez D), and Mike Monday. Lennox has played along side DJs such as Christopher Lawrence, Kramer, Chris Walsh, and James Lauer to name a few. He is also affiliated with the largest online DJ community, DJForums.com and has a weekly residency on Faderwave.net. In August 2005, he was selected to be Artist of the Month' out of over a thousand DJs and producers on MusicV2.com. Since joining MusicV2 he has had close to 23,000 downloads of his mixes. His technical skills and programming abilities have set him apart from his peers and he has accomplished a great deal in a short time. Lennox loves to entertain a crowd and you can usually see him dancing along with it during his sets. His excitement and passion for what he plays makes him a must see performer! www.myspace.com/deejaylennox TOLGAR [RaveTrax, Base10] An ardent musician from an early age: playing several instruments varying from mandolin to drums; participating in marching band to rock band - Tolgar's history clearly depicts an amalgamation of musical sensibilities and his desire to share with others the music that he loves: breaks. Writing and performing freestyle as a hip-hop MC in New York was his introduction to electronic music. Afterwards, it extended into funky breaks and jump-up jungle while in Florida. Encountering artists like DJ Icey, Baby Anne, Huda Hudia, Rick West, DJ Trixie etc. and befriending many other DJs along the way, he was inspired to spin and began practicing on his friends' turntables. By 2000, Tolgar was back in Chicago practicing on turntables of his own, spinning all forms of breaks: from funky to nu-skool, as well as spinning drum 'n' bass, tech-step and jump-up jungle. Over time, breaks became his main focus. Breaks, rather an obscure genre of electronic music, was sparsely showcased in Chicago. Motivated by its absence, Tolgar and his friend and fellow DJ JohnEVolution decided to promote it by launching Recess at Katacomb in the summer of 2002. Together with John and Marcel, Tolgar retained a monthly residency at Katacomb until they joined Chris Gin and Localsound's weekly party Hard Candy at Big Wig (now known as Four), as a monthly breaks event. In 2004, Tolgar left Recess to pursue his own promotion/record label company Base10 with the initial focus to cultivate an enjoyable environment in which to exhibit breaks. Teaming up with Local Hero, Base10 was invited by Bass by the Pound to run a monthly breaks party (every 2nd Friday) at Lava Lounge called Algorhythm. It is in its 8th-month-running this March 2006 with 30Hz as their guest. One of their most recent guests, Smithmonger, a breaks DJ and producer from the U.K. stated, "Chicago is in good hands. Their breaks scene needs this dude at the controls." In addition to promoting others, Tolgar's own reputation as a DJ has grown. He has opened up for U.N.K.L.E. on Halloween 2004 (Pure at Soundbar); headlined in Seattle at The Spot (Pleasuretown) in March 26, 2005; that same year was ranked the 42nd breakbeat DJ on www.thedjlist.com; opened up for DJ Hyper at Soundbar, Chicago (Jan.'06); continues his worldwide-reaching online radio show on www.ravetrax.com - 2 years running; shares an internet radio show with Local Hero which airs every Friday on www.nuskoolbreaks.co.uk; and is presently collaborating a live PA production project (The Grind) with Tod Miner who has produced tracks for Teri Bristol and Psycho Bitch including "TeenageWasteland" and currently has a track listed on the top 25 Billboard's Breakout Artist chart. Future plans include throwing and playing more parties, producing new tracks, and melding his experiences to create Base10 into a record label. www.myspace.com/tolgar www.tolgar.com/ ________________ NO COVER & $35 Premium Drink Packages all night long! http://www.ampprod.com/rsvp Every week we bring you Housexy in the Lair (minus 1st Fridays)! HAC LE [Play Co Music, John Digweed 'Next Big Thing' DJ Contest Winner, AMP] A born native of Vietnam, in 1990 Hac Le started playing 80’s electronic and alternative music in Los Angeles, CA. Living in CA allowed Hac to experience the beginnings of the West Coast electronic dance music scene and presented him the opportunity to open for Taylor & Sandra Collins. It was the underground sounds of the West Coast that became Hac’s musical inspiration. Soon after he obtained a residency at LA’s longest running industrial club, the now defunct Kontrol Faktory, located in the heart of Melrose at the Probe. During his 3-year residency, Hac spun alongside great talents such as Jack Danger of Meat Beat Manifesto and Talla 2XLC of BiGod20. From there Hac packed his bags and moved on to Chicago where he took a brief two year hiatus before returning to the decks. He re-emerged with a distinctive musical style - fusing his previous West Coast experience with the local Chicago House and Techno scenes. Known for his contrast of light and dark emotive soundscapes, Hac has captivated crowds across the country with his energetic, chunky, throbbing beats, performing in Chicago (Crobar, Transit, RedNoFive), Los Angeles, Milwaukee and Mexico with some of the best talent in the industry such as John Digweed, Moshic, BT, The Crystal Method, Taylor, Sandra Collins, Paul Van Dyk, Deep Dish, Pako & Frederik, Hector Romero, James Zabiela, Kazell and Hernan Cattaneo. Recently, Hac was recognized by one of the top DJs in the world. His mix was hand picked by John Digweed out of over 1,800 entries as the winner of FutureMusic’s Next Big Thing DJ contest. John Digweed was so enamored by Hac's winning entry that he decided to feature the mix on an episode of his internationally syndicated Kiss 100 radio show. Hac was also flown out to Denver to open for John Digweed and Desyn Masiello’s Endless Summer Tour at the world famous venue, The Church. The media exposure has catapulted Hac’s name and sound onto an even larger international stage. www.playcomusic.com LEVI GRAHAM [insurgent Recordings, AMP] Born into an exceptionally artistic family, Levi Graham was introduced to house music at a young age. In 92' he began experimenting with synthesizers in his uncle's studio after being introduced to the sounds of Orbital and Underworld. In 94' he attended his first wharehouse party... Later, as part of the Insurgent Recordings collective (Austin, TX) Along with DJs Rebel and Right-1, Levi helped set up a string of invite-only renegade parties that helped establish Insurgent as a driving force in the Texas underground. Starting in 2000 with their first party "Cedar Fever". The spot was tucked away in a forest preserve at the edge of an industrial complex...and remained unseen and unheard by the local fuzz. Addicted to the rush and vibe that came with throwing illegal parties, they continued once a month thereafter. In 2002 Levi relocated to Chicago, since then hes kept a busy dj schedule, his unique style of quirky electro house and progressive as well as extreme skill behind the decks have earned him respect from some of the top djs in the world. www.myspace.com/levigraham82 PeteOne [bPMChicago.com, AMP] Born in beginning of 80's in Poland, PeteOne attended an international music school at the age of nine, where for four years, he studied the history of classical music and took piano lessons. In the mid-90's he fell in love with performers like Orbital, Future Sound of London, and the Prodigy. Soon after he bought his first pair of turntables and taught himself the art and science of mixing records. His style of music can be described as nasty, deep, and sexy futuristic sounds. His biggest influences include international DJs such as Sasha, John Digweed, Deep Dish, James Lavelle, and Steve Lawler. Pete is creating quite a buzz in the Chicago local scene after his performances at Vision, Mix, and WNUR 89.3 FM radio. As a part owner of BPMChicago.com and member of AMP he guarantees to keep the best underground dance music pumping through the speakers. www.myspace.com/peteone ________________ NO COVER & $35 Premium Drink Packages all night long! http://www.ampprod.com/rsvp Every week we bring you Housexy in the Lair (minus 1st Fridays)! HouSexy t-shirts are in, you may just get one if you've been especially Frisky boy or girl CHRIS WALSH [sOG Records, Sangamon Studios, AMP] Chris Walsh has been a club veteran since the age of 16. Growing up in Chicago at an ideal time, Chris had the privilege of attending Chicago's legendary Medusa's nightclub. It was at Medusa's where Chris' dance music tastes were formed. The late 80's were a great time for music in Chicago and Medusa's was the place to hear new dance music first. From the industrial sounds of Chicago's Wax Trax label (Ministry, Revolting Cocks and Front 242) to the early House sounds being released on such seminal Chicago labels as DJ International and Trax, Chicago was creating the blueprint for the soundtrack of global dance music culture. Chris' early mentor was Chicago DJ/Producer Mark Picchiotti. Mark was a prominent DJ in Chicago playing at Medusa's, Crobar and Shelter. Mark also had international fame as a music producer, producing artists such as Jamiroquai, Latour and Kylie Minogue. After helping Mark put together his new studio, Chris was offeblue the position as a studio assistant. It was here, working with Mark Picchiotti, that Chris was schooled in the art of DJing and music production, working on projects for Madonna, Pet Shop Boys and The Absolute. Soon after learning the ropes with Mark, Chris began his professional DJ career playing at some of Chicago's leading clubs including Shelter, Crobar, and Karma. When he's not playing records in Chicago, Chris is busy DJing overseas in places like Russia, Ibiza and London. Chris has had the opportunity to share the bill with DJ's such as Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Dave Seaman, Pete Tong, and Timo Maas to name just a few. Chris has also been working the corporate scene by DJing events for Nike and Apple. Last year Chris saw his first release Shake signed to Sony's Playstation game Grand Theft Auto 3 and HBO's hit series Six Feet Under. Most recently Chris has set his sights back on the recording studio. He has teamed up with engineer Jeremy Coutre, and together they have formed Sangamon Studios. Recently they have put out remixes of Stella Nova's Quiet Nights on Uncommon Chill and Hipservice's Badaboom Badabing on Audio Therapy. Chris and Jeremy have also put out two bootlegs. The first track is called Life originally by Hole in One, and the other is God Put A Smile On My Face by Coldplay. Both have reached the dance floors and club charts of DJ's such as Dave Seaman, Tall Paul, Seb Fontaine, and Dave Ralph. www.djchriswalsh.com www.myspace.com/djchriswalsh DARIN EPSILON [Digitally Imported Radio, ProgressiveHouse.com, AMP] Darin Epsilon's advanced technical skills, seamless transitions, and unique programming abilities have continually received praise from key industry players and taste-makers. In a very short time she became a house music staple in central Illinois and often found herself making the two hour drive to Chicago to play respected venues such as Smartbar, Zentra, and Whiskey Sky. Next thing she knew, she was being flown from her hometown of Champaign, IL to Hollywood, CA to compete against the other two finalists at the famous Ivar nightclub, in front of judges Colette, Rap, and Reid Speed. The contest, sponsoblue by BPM Magazine, Rockstar Energy Drink, and Stanton, and titled “Beauty and the Beats: The Female DJ Mix Awardâ€, was intended to discover the next big female DJ in electronic music. The contest was indeed successful when discovering J Phlip, and has led to even bigger moments for this talented 22 year old. J Phlip fell in love with house music when discovering the thriving underground house scene in Champaign, only a few hours away from Chicago. Music has always been a huge part of her life from playing instruments to singing and dancing in choir to deciding to specialize in Audio and Sound Engineering as part of her General Engineering degree at the University of Illinois. DJing was simply the next step for her. “I found that dancing and listening to others spin music made me happy, no matter what was going on in my life. I wanted to be able to make others feel that way through my choice of music,†she said. She found that being behind the decks was a comfortable place for her, even in front of others, and knew it was her following. J Phlip is constantly being influenced by all music around her and the experiences in her life. She in turn inspires other DJs and keeps pushing the local house scene forward. She held one of the longest running weekly residencies for electronic music in Champaign. For over two years, house fans from around the Midwest came to Barfly on Thursday nights to hear J Phlip spin four hours of her own style of funky, techy, jazzy and deep house. Constantly listening to new tracks and digging in Chicago record stores, J Phlip always manages to impress even the most knowledgeable DJs with her song selections. Besides her many Champaign residencies, she also shablue a weekly with Heather Doble of The Sound Navigators in Chicago at Lava. Every Sunday at The Sunday Soul Supper these two ladies would play alongside a new featublue guest DJ. Her precise mixes and strong EQ skills would pass the most rigorous DJ tests. But it is also her friendly and cheerful attitude that has won her so many fans. J Phlip visibly loves the music she is playing. “House music gives me a good feeling inside. It is full of energy and can drag me out of any mood, and is so much fun to layer and blend,†she says. www.j-phlip.com www.myspace.com/jphlip ________________ NO COVER & $35 Premium Drink Packages all night long! http://www.ampprod.com/rsvp Every week we bring you Housexy in the Lair (minus 1st Fridays)! But it wasn't until he was tag teaming light shows with a friend at Moda Nightclub in Cleveland that Dave decided to move away from his 14 year percussion background and purchase his first 1200's after moving to Chicago. Dave began by spinning deep and funky house, acid jazz and progressive being influenced by the likes of Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, and Sasha and Digweed. Dave's style has matured into what you'll now hear in the selection of House Dave incorporates into his sets. Dave's sets generally cover a range of house music which include tech house, funky house, electro, progressive, and tribal. Dave's style and track selection influence clubbers onto a dance floor and into an ultimate clubbing experience “the best night ever.” Expect the unexpected, as Dave is consistently striving to take his listeners on a clubbing journey that will surely be remembered. 8. AMP, FRISKYRADIO.COM & VISION NIGHTCLUB PRESENT... GET FRISKY @ HOUSEXY **This event will be recorded and broadcast worldwide on FriskyRadio.com** LANCE DeSARDI [LANDSHARK, COCO MACHETE, OM] Slated for worldwide release September 12, 2006 the self titled, full length album from Land Shark a.k.a. Lance DeSardi on Coco Machete/OM will shake up any preconceived notions held by fans of all dance, rock, electro and alternative sounds. The Land Shark project is an edgy departure from Lance's previous projects as an underground house music mainstay. Still deeply rooted in dance rhythms, Land Shark takes derailing hard left turns into the sonic realms of industrial, punk and electro. In 1998, Lance heard the call of the West, and said goodbye to his roots, moving out to California. After a four year stint between L.A. and Chicago he settled among the wild and the weird in the town he calls home today, San Francisco. As a working DJ, Lance creates an intriguing juxtaposition of house, electro, techno, and more than a little funk. He's started a band, fully realizing his rock and industrial influences that have brought him much of his inspiration. Now, with loads of singles under his belt, a double mix CD for OM records, and too many remixes to remember, he's hit his stride both as a DJ and as a producer. Today, he can be found all over the world, bringing his brand of electro-house business to the masses. Hac Le [AMP, Global Trip, Eradiox.com] The nationwide DJ talent contest THE NEXT BIG THING came to a thrilling conclusion as Winner Hac Le opened for super start DJ John Digweed at the Denver Colorado stop of his Endless Summer Tour. "This experience has been such a validation of my dreams and hard work," said an astounded Hac after receiving a personal phone call from Digweed revealing he was the contest winner. Close to 2000 contestants were vying to be THE NEXT BIG THING, sending in 60 minute DJ mixes from all across the United States. Futuremusic hosted the contest and screened the entries. "It was a tough decision," says Futuremusic President Dan Brotman, "we had dozens of our staff listening round the clock to all the CD's that came in. We narrowed it down to 5 semifinalists, and then John Digweed personally selected Hac Le, as the winning mix.". www.playcomusic.com Peteone [AMP, Bpmchicago.com] Born in beginning of 80's in Poland, he attended an internation music school at the age of nine, where for four years, he studied the history of classical music and took piano lessons.
