  7. Friday February 29th, 2008 Blasthaus Presents ELECTROPOP feat. WALE Support from TRACKADEMICKS and Nick Catchdubs! blasthaus proudly presents Electropop, the first annual electronic music stage at the 2008 Noise Pop Festival. This dynamic new chapter in the festival continues the long-standing Noise Pop tradition of bringing cutting edge, independent music to San Francisco, this time with the focus on musicians and artists using electronic mediums. Electropop will run Friday, February 29th and Saturday March 1st, 2008, and feature two exhilarating nights of music and new media art manifested at Mighty, one of San Francisco's premier nightclubs and a beacon in the Bay Area electronic music scene. Headlining Friday night at Electropop will be D.C. electro-rap phenomenon Wale (pronounced wah-ley). Breathing new life into an industry more focused on selling ring-tones than quality rap music, Wale has become a prominent young voice in hip-hop. The self-proclaimed "ambassador of rap for the capital" aims to put Washington, D.C., on the map. While D.C. isn't known as the capital of rap, it is known for go-go music, which thrived in the '70s and '80s thanks to its godfather, Chuck Brown. Wale has embraced this style of funk and incorporated it into hip-hop beats, using go-go's live instrumentation and energy to propel his lyrics. Last year saw the release of his already classic "100 Miles and Runnin" mix, which caught the attention of Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Lilly Allen) and since then this protege was named one of Entertainment Weekly's 8 people to watch in 2008. $15 advance tickets onsale now / $20 door / 9:00pm - after http://www.blasthaus.com MIGHTY | 21+ 119 Utah @ 15th San Francisco, CA 94015 http://www.mighty119.com http://www.myspace.com/mighty119.com
  8. Thursday February 28th, 2008 Mighty Presents SATOSHI TOMIIE Saw Recordings, Defmix Satoshi Tomiie is, quite simply, Japan's most successful International DJ and House producer. Even though Satoshi was a major DJ in Japan, the challenge of spinning along side House greats like David Morales and Frankie Knuckles became the motivation for developing his own sound and identity and has established Satoshi as a headliner and a mainstay in the DJ community. He tours constantly and can be found spinning records in major clubs around the world. Recently, Satoshi launched his own label "SAW.RECORDINGS". It was Satoshi's desire to create a platform from which he would be able to showcase ideas and creativity that are more experimental and underground. His first single entitled "Paranoize" by Bipath has caused major excitement from DJ's worldwide. SAW.RECORDINGS is an example of the direction that Satoshi is heading in, acknowledging the changes in the dance music scene, thus shifting what House music is. House music never stops evolving and expanding its borders and Satoshi Tomiie will be in the forefront of this movement. Not forgetting his Def Mix roots, Satoshi will release a mix compilation for Definity Records this summer as he continues to DJ globally. 15. Saturday January 26th, 2008 Mighty Presents Tommie Sunshine & Juan Maclean Tommie Sunshine "[Tommie Sunshine] just might be the guy who could make dance music fun and important again this year..." Paper Magazine. Influenced by equal parts of Kraftwerk, AC/DC, and Farley Jackmaster Funk, mid-west rave legend and Brooklyn, NY resident Tommie Sunshine is raising the bar. Covering ground as artist, remixer, producer, vocalist, radio jock, label owner, DJ and songwriter and with his legendary hybrid of live performance and DJ sets now traveling the globe it wont be long before there will be, at least a little, Tommie Sunshine in your life. & Juan Maclean (DFA) Prior to becoming one of the most significant acts on the DFA label, John Maclean was a member of Sub Pop band Six Finger Satellite. It was during that time that James Murphy (LCD Soundsytem) and Tim Goldsworthy provoked Maclean to get on board with DFA. Using the name the Juan Maclean, Maclean took the sound of his defunct band to the dancefloor, retaining flashes of post-punk and '70s experimental electronics while grafting bits of early Euro-disco, electro, Detroit techno, and Chicago house. A handful of singles - including DFA highlights "You Can't Have It Both Ways" and "Give Me Every Little Thing" - led to "Less Than Human" - the first album credited to the Juan Maclean. plus SLEAZEMORE (Lights Down Low) $15 presales @ wantickets.com $30 VIP presales Doors @ 10pm MIGHTY | 21+ 119 Utah @ 15th San Francisco, CA 94015 http://www.mighty119.com http://www.myspace.com/mighty119.com
