tastyt
Maybe b/c it would mean a lot more now than when you were younger. When you're in love in hs it's all fun and games, but once you get to be our age, it's serious business...

How do you know, if you never have to deal with the "serious business"?

Your ability to "truly" love is limited. You may have loved someone as much as you were able to at that particular time in your life.

That's how I feel about it personally. Somebody once asked me how I could have told my exes that I loved them, when now I look back and wonder if it was really love. The answer is, it was the closest thing to love that I knew at the time. My dad gave me a wonderful saying, something like this:"I've never been this much in love again."It's a great feeling, if you have the good fortune to encounter it. How do you know, if you never have to deal with the "serious business"? Of course it's possible to be in love when you're younger. I was very much in love from abt 15- 19, and we were planning on getting married. However, I say it's not nearly as *serious* because said marriage was not anywhere in the forseeable future. It wasn't anywhere on the horizon; sometime shortly after I finished college, I thought, but even that was years away. It's different for someone in their late 20's... when you're in love and in a serious relationship, the prospect of marriage is not nearly so remote. You could also take societal pressure into account. Younger marriages are typically discourages, but once you hit a certain age people start to expect that you're going to settle down and start a family... the biological clock starts ticking, so to speak. Every time you fall in love it's different... in a way I'll never experience it the way I did the first time; but in other ways it'll be much stronger and hopefully more enduring... I was just throwing that question out, to see people's responses. See my post above...

jimk29
I don't think it is so much that we stop wanting to fall in love as we get older. We just tend to be much more cautious about diving headfirst into a situation where we are so likely to be hurt.

nycchic24
i guess its kinda like do you believe you need to be in love in order to have a relationship ? or do you beileve that "just love" can sustain a relationship. a debate i have had to battle recently but then again i guess everyone needs to find out or decide for themselves what is best and what they are looking for in a relationship. as in last nights episode from SATC are you looking for butterflies? and that zsa Zsa Xu? or are you happy becuase that one person makes you laugh?
