Funk D’Void - V-GerHailing from the real Glasgow underground more than 10 years ago, with a little club called Slam and a band by the same name, originators Orde Meikle and Stuart McMillan probably had no idea what their influence on the UK dance scene would be. After many successful events, they embarked into the studio pumping out their first release, "Eterna,? which ironically happens to be the last track on the second disc. From that point on, they have attracted some huge names, which are thankfully assembled on this double 10 year anniversary retrospective cd, ranging from the crossover "Da Funk" by Daft Punk, to the trancey huge release of last year, "Diabla" by Funk d'Void, the bubbly techno of Percy X, the deep house of Scott Grooves and 20:20 Vision and the heavily remixed classic "Positive Education" by Slam. What oddly is missing though, is the masterpiece "Fallen" by One Dove, which was the second release off Soma. Giving you a history lesson of the origin of post-rave techno from the UK may be what all the new kids need to hear so they can appreciate and give respect to those who helped start it all. Happy anniversary, Soma. And as a treat for all of you who jump on this release early, a bonus third mixed cd by Slam is included in the first 1000 pressings.
