mugwump
The best thing about living in New York city has been the experienceof getting to know some amazing artists personally and sharing viewson their art..I use to think this was unique to myself..a sort of Occupational hazard andforest gump socialite diseasecaused by my uncontrollable verbalspouts and manic desire to get toknow everyone in a room..Needless to say once you startto hang out within certainscenes in this city someoneis bound to say to you;"Hey..I always see you around..your that weirdo that's dancingin front of my speakers all the timeand talking to everyone but the bathroom attendantfeel like helping out?"(Note to the booth: I have met someof the nicest bathroom attendants in the worldin this city as well but that's another top fivethread to come later)which I am always most happy todo so...And which is the reason thatI have been lucky enough to takewith me some of the best nightsof my life partying, listening toand getting to know some of the most talented LOCAL DJS this city has got to offer. They cross many genresand are often NOT from NYC..But their contributions to themusic scene as DJs in this city have made me fall in love with thenight over and over again..AND THAT IS WHY THESE AREMY TOP FIVE LOCAL DJS THATI ADMIRE THE MOST:(I narrow it to five becausethere are far too many..pleasedon't think I don't like you ifI don't include you.) :D
mugwump
*DJ WOOL (Breaks/Turntablist DMC champion): ~I met Glenn through Mike Robinson &Miss Bliss(equally talented great Breaks DJs)He is by far the most wicked son ofa bitch that I've ever witnessed scratching, beat juggling and BREAKING sound systems inthis city.(and one that has made the mostbreaks hating techno-trance snobsturn and go; "Hey, he's good")He has shared many storiesover many a pints with me andwill forever hold a place in my heart as oneof the nicest-no attitude-Jocks I'veever met in my life..(He even made me fall intohis record crate once by makingme dance so hard)~Here's to you Glen..Thanks for all the great BREAKING nights!(miss ya)* Sara Walker (Direct Drive-Static) How can ANYONE dislike what this girl does..?She is one of those DJs that can crossgenre and still pull it off PERFECTLY!Be it as her bad ass Drum and bass guise "DOOMER"or as a breakbeat electro Static diva..Sara'snever let me down on the floor. Any ladies thatare looking for an example of a local femalestar behind the decks should study herevery move. She is by far thee most versatileflexible and one of the nicest gals in thebeaks-electro-D&B scene.*PJAY (Nyex-Tronic) Minimal techno-visual artist-animator guru.Perhaps one of the most talented and understatedcreative forces behind Tronic. If Tronic everends I hold his Tuesday nights at Drinklandas it's predecessor. One hell of nice guyand an inspiration to me as an all around "ARTIST".Some of his Live P.A sets have melted mybrain. PJay is the embodiment of "Honesty".~Keep it real and Experimental man...*Mark Divine (D3): "what? But Mugz you are neverat his parties any more?" yea well noshit...though I think Marc is perhaps NYC'smost hidden gem (locked up in Leopard"Cliques" and surrounded by gossipy bitches)I sure wish he'd move D3 to abetter venue.I still remember a time when I'd follow his nights around the city like a hippie following the dead. The guy is nothing but PURE TALENT.I remember once having a looong drunk talkwith him behind the decks at Leps. After like twenty minutesI realized the MAN WAS MIXING THE ENTIRE FUCKING TIME.Not one train wreck..keeping everyone else behind me on the dance floor moving.Unfortunately I am allergic to Leopard fur but I'll still bump into him from time to time and tell him how great I think he is. mugwump
The fifth is soo hard to choose:What with My love for sonic Groove..The Gotham boys, Home grown,Native theoryand Headrush all in town it makes it hard to narrow it down to my last final FIFTH pick. I was gonna say ChristianSmith but he's hardly ever around anymore.Or how smooooth Danny Howells can transition intobreaks and keep the night going insane..Shit there's Hollands, Magda, DB, dara..soo many Great Djs thathave given me sooo many nights of me loosing my mindthat live in this great city..(even Hawtin's New to the hood). But to remember why I started this threadI have to remember that the list consistsof DJs that I ADMIRE..and n some way perhapschanged me...So for the final and last top FIVE PICKOF MY FAVORITE PERSONAL DJ THATI ADMIRE I'M GOING WITH:*JOHN SELWAY (Surprised?)Fuck look. What ever you may say about Electro-"electro-clash" and minimal technoall I have to say is that this man herehas produced some of the most beautifultracks in this genre played by some of thebiggest Global talents in the world. And his gigshave been nothing but incredible for me. I waslistening to him spin this type of shit before I even dreamt that it would blow up the way it has.The man has some crazy history behind him and a future that looks extremely bright. Can't wait to hear him again soon....(Even though I'm sure he hates my drunken babble every time I see him at Luxx and Baktun)So that's me...HOW ABOUT YOU?
