Top Five "local" Djs That You Admire The Most Right Now

The best thing about living in New York

city has been the experience

of getting to know some amazing

artists personally and sharing views

on their art..

I use to think this was unique to myself..

a sort of Occupational hazard and

forest gump socialite disease

caused by my uncontrollable verbal

spouts and manic desire to get to

know everyone in a room..

Needless to say once you start

to hang out within certain

scenes in this city someone

is bound to say to you;

"Hey..I always see you around..

your that weirdo that's dancing

in front of my speakers all the time

and talking to everyone but the bathroom attendant

feel like helping out?"

(Note to the booth: I have met some

of the nicest bathroom attendants in the world

in this city as well but that's another top five

thread to come later)

which I am always most happy to

do so...And which is the reason that

I have been lucky enough to take

with me some of the best nights

of my life partying, listening to

and getting to know some of the

most talented LOCAL DJS this city

has got to offer.

They cross many genres

and are often NOT from NYC..

But their contributions to the

music scene as DJs in this city

have made me fall in love with the

night over and over again..

AND THAT IS WHY THESE ARE

MY TOP FIVE LOCAL DJS THAT

I ADMIRE THE MOST:

(I narrow it to five because

there are far too many..please

don't think I don't like you if

I don't include you.)

:D :D :D

*DJ WOOL (Breaks/Turntablist DMC champion):

~I met Glenn through Mike Robinson &

Miss Bliss(equally talented great Breaks DJs)

He is by far the most wicked son of

a bitch that I've ever witnessed scratching,

beat juggling and BREAKING sound systems in

this city.(and one that has made the most

breaks hating techno-trance snobs

turn and go; "Hey, he's good")

He has shared many stories

over many a pints with me and

will forever hold a place in my heart as one

of the nicest-no attitude-Jocks I've

ever met in my life..

(He even made me fall into

his record crate once by making

me dance so hard)

~Here's to you Glen..

Thanks for all the great BREAKING nights!

(miss ya)

* Sara Walker (Direct Drive-Static)

How can ANYONE dislike what this girl does..?

She is one of those DJs that can cross

genre and still pull it off PERFECTLY!

Be it as her bad ass Drum and bass guise "DOOMER"

or as a breakbeat electro Static diva..Sara's

never let me down on the floor. Any ladies that

are looking for an example of a local female

star behind the decks should study her

every move. She is by far thee most versatile

flexible and one of the nicest gals in the

beaks-electro-D&B scene.

*PJAY (Nyex-Tronic)

Minimal techno-visual artist-animator guru.

Perhaps one of the most talented and understated

creative forces behind Tronic. If Tronic ever

ends I hold his Tuesday nights at Drinkland

as it's predecessor. One hell of nice guy

and an inspiration to me as an all around "ARTIST".

Some of his Live P.A sets have melted my

brain. PJay is the embodiment of "Honesty".

~Keep it real and Experimental man...

*Mark Divine (D3):

"what? But Mugz you are never

at his parties any more?" yea well no

shit...though I think Marc is perhaps NYC's

most hidden gem (locked up in Leopard

"Cliques" and surrounded by gossipy bitches)

I sure wish he'd move D3 to abetter venue.

I still remember a time when I'd follow his

nights around the city like a hippie following the dead.

The guy is nothing but PURE TALENT.

I remember once having a looong drunk talk

with him behind the decks at Leps. After like twenty minutes

I realized the MAN WAS MIXING THE ENTIRE FUCKING TIME.

Not one train wreck..keeping everyone else behind me on the dance floor moving.Unfortunately I am allergic to

Leopard fur but I'll still bump into him from time to

time and tell him how great I think he is.

The fifth is soo hard to choose:

What with My love for sonic Groove..

The Gotham boys, Home grown,Native theory

and Headrush all in town it makes it hard to narrow it down to

my last final FIFTH pick.

I was gonna say Christian

Smith but he's hardly ever around anymore.

Or how smooooth Danny Howells can transition into

breaks and keep the night going insane..Shit there's

Hollands, Magda, DB, dara..soo many Great Djs that

have given me sooo many nights of me loosing my mind

that live in this great city..(even Hawtin's New to the hood).

But to remember why I started this thread

I have to remember that the list consists

of DJs that I ADMIRE..and n some way perhaps

changed me...

So for the final and last top FIVE PICK

OF MY FAVORITE PERSONAL DJ THAT

I ADMIRE I'M GOING WITH:

*JOHN SELWAY

(Surprised?)

Fuck look. What ever you may say about

Electro-"electro-clash" and minimal techno

all I have to say is that this man here

has produced some of the most beautiful

tracks in this genre played by some of the

biggest Global talents in the world. And his gigs

have been nothing but incredible for me. I was

listening to him spin this type of shit before I even dreamt that it would blow up the way it has.The man has some crazy history behind him and a future that looks extremely bright.

Can't wait to hear him again soon....(Even though I'm sure he hates my drunken babble every time I see him at Luxx and Baktun)

So that's me...

HOW ABOUT YOU?

I'll have to stick with a few that don't necessarily get as much widespread exposure...

Selway

Jason Jollins

Bluewater

Dave Hollands

DB

There's quite a few out here, obviosuly... and there's quite a few people I've yet to see...LES being one and Wool being another...damn short lists...

And Peace Division's based out here?? Never knew that...
