LavenderMenace
Stolen from bob barker on NBI know SOME of you must be old enough to remember this awesome show!!!THE MAGIC GARDEN Grows Again On WB11 RETROSPECTIVE SEEN THANKSGIVING DAY AT 1 PM NEW YORK -- "The Magic Garden," a favorite of millions of children in the 1970s and 1980s, returns to television with a one-hour retrospective program to be seen on WPIX Channel 11, the station where it was originally seen. "The Magic Garden: Still Growing" will be seen on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 28 at 1 pm. It will be followed, between 2 & 3 pm, by two original episodes of "The Magic Garden" not seen on TV since 1984. The one-hour retrospective will be repeated Sunday, December 1, at noon. WPIX Channel 11 (The WB11), a Tribune Television station, is the New York affiliate of The WB Television Network.Initiated by its two stars, Carole Demas and Paula Janis, "The Magic Garden" was produced at WPIX, where it was seen from March 3, 1972 until September 14, 1984. Demas sang and Janis sang and played guitar in original music and songs based on traditional melodies. They were joined in the Garden by Sherlock, a squirrel puppet, and a patch of daisies known as the Chuckle Patch flowers because they laughed at all the jokes. While it entertained, "The Magic Garden" also taught. Lessons in language, culture, and the arts were woven so seamlessly into scripts that children who watched may have had no idea they were learning something until many years later.Seen weekdays on WPIX, "The Magic Garden" was an instant hit. During the February 1975 sweep, for example, "The Magic Garden," then seen from 10 am to 10:30 am, was watched by an estimated 240,000 children aged 2 to 11 locally according to Nielsen. When WPIX became a superstation, carried on cable systems nationwide, "The Magic Garden" attracted a national following. Its popularity was the basis for three records cut by Demas and Janis, one of which featured the show's signature "Hello Song" and "See Ya." "The Magic Garden" is one of two WPIX programs (the other being "The Yule Log") which continue to generate record amounts of viewer fan mail to the station long after going off the air. By popular demand "The Yule Log" was revived as a Christmas 2001 program after a 12-year hiatus. Both "The Yule Log" and "The Magic Garden" enjoy dedicated Internet fan sites.Demas, an accomplished actress and singer, has starred on Broadway, TV, and in concert. She was the original Sandy in Broadway's "Grease." Janis is a teacher and a former Director of the Head Start program in New York City as well as a singer and musician, who has performed everywhere -- from Greenwich Village cafes to Carnegie Hall. They have acknowledged the undying popularity of "The Magic Garden" with ongoing personal appearances to enthusiastic audiences. "It is an absolute joy to be with our fans old and new and to find that the magic continues. We intend to keep it alive for as long as the love and inspiration keep going both ways," says Demas. The WPIX retrospective, "The Magic Garden: Still Growing," reunites Demas and Janis in their original roles as hosts. The one-hour program will feature clips from the original shows and recollections by the hosts, as well as an update on what "The Magic Garden" means to a generation of viewers now raising their own children."'The Magic Garden' defies the passage of time," said WPIX program director Julie O'Neil. "Twenty- six years after the last episode was shot, it is still as modern as tomorrow."
