mugwump
Wow..I'm still hurting from Saturday night here...DEAR LORD ALL MIGHTY!And to thinkI got mixed up in some crazy shit the nightbefore and almost didn't make it..In fact I almost didn't get there thanks to a jack ass palof mine that flaked with tickets..(Lucked out with a guy I met at record store whoknew someone that had to cancel his trip due toillness)What can I say...MIND BLOWING?Ear drum shattering....!There's so much that I loved that I'dwrite a book if I told ya all I sawand did..Flew in to Brussels and took a trainto Gent where IShared a cab with some techno cutiesfrom Amsterdam ...(as wellas a great after hours party back at a youth hostile)Flanders Expo is a giganticspace that dwarfs anything I've everbeen to in my entire life!(Five rooms with 5,000 capacityEACH!)There was so much goingon that I missed out ona lot. However I was more thanpleased with what I did witness..Highlights:COX! (who IS GOD!)Two hours that I thought I'd divide in order to go to another room and see more...but the man kept me theretransfixed and sweating like a pig dancing my ass offwith my new buddies from the Dam.Then Bryan Zents lays down this insane minimalLIVE set (loop galore)..My brain almost meltedfrom it but I think he lost a few peoplewho perhaps expected something closer to hisalbum tracks...No matter I squeeze my way into Vath(whom I'm told has shut the room dueto capacity) I find it quite easy to schmoosemy way in to the Blue Room and nearly collapse afterhis set...Fucking animal that guy..like an evilscientist or some virtual character outof the Matrix..He slammed me way harder than his set at ARC...(I missed out on the Italiansand a tag team between rino Cerone, dj rush, adam beyer, marco bailey, & redhead..which I heard was quite amazing. But it's all good. I'm sure I'll catchthat here soon enough again..Those damn Danish birds I was withwhere like sinister ever ready bouncingbunnies that would not let me wonder offthe dance floor)and the energy the entire night...CH-RRRRRR-IST!I tell ya the last couple weeks here in Europesure are making it hard for me to missNYC! Between GENT, My nights in Roman Centri-Sociale withMr. poker Flat himself..Bushwacka sushi at Kentum and Jeff Millscoming here in a couple weeks I'm not too eager to go backto America...The vibe is so CHILL here...no hassles from paranoid post-Gulianigestapo bouncers..no snobery...Just a huge multitude of people that love the music and are eager to get to know you. It's this kind of Purity and appreciation that I felt was draining from the U.S...Then again maybe it's just the honeymoon period mixed with the after glow from sharing some "candy" and loving with those youngtechno cuties from the Dam in Belgium...I'm already making my plans for I LOVE TECHNO SUMMER FESTIVAL in 03!(can't wait to develop my photos!) mugwump
Cool!some background infoon the organizers of this event(and possible US dates)***************Music Man Records was founded in 1988 by the owner of the Music Man shop in Ghent, the techno centre of Belgium (homebase for other labels such as Reload and R&S Records, and parties as Kozzmozz and I love techno). One of the main artists in the early days was Frank De Wulf. He was responsible for the highly acclaimed B-Sides series and other projects such as F.O.G. and Rhythm Device. Many other releases followed and Music Man Records soon gained a worldwide reputation within the techno scene. In 1994 an entirely new look (logo, design, artists) was created and the A&R side of things was firmly taken to heart by Stefaan Vandenberghe (T-Quest). The rebirth of the label was signposted by the release of Robert Armani's 'Hit Hard'. Since then the label has been proud to release tracks &mixes from Secret Cinema ('Timeless Altitude'), Tim Taylor & Dan Zamani (Yantra), Damon Wild , Slam, Perez & Dowell, Illumination, Metro Dade, Kenny Larkin, Laidback Luke, Daz Saund (Sound Associates), Charles Webster, Rejuvination, Stacey Pullen, Cherry Bomb, Bandulu, DJ Slip, Percy X (Mion), Steve Rachmad (Ignacio & Sterac), Green Velvet, Jeff Mills, Gaiden, Speedy J, Dave Clarke, François K .....The 21st century has already been very exciting as in 2001 the label released one of the most important tracks of that year : Green Velvet – La La Land . Also the contributions from Chris Liebing and Speedy j on the Ignacio/Gaiden releases have received full support from DJ’s all over the world. This year has been very important for the label as friends/artists such as Deetron, Bandulu & Petar Dundov joined the roster. Also contributions from Taksi, DJ Rush, Peter Sliwinski & Neil Landstrumm are expected and should continue to spread the Music Man taste...The purpose of the MMTour is to spread the name of the label and support our artists with quality parties (incl. occasional suprise guests), without forgetting the drinks and fun !!. The start will take place on the 9th of November 2002 at the prestigious I Love Techno event in hometown Ghent (Belgium) where different Music Man artists will be represented...Current schedule for the Music Man World Tour :Nov/Dec 2002: Western Europe, UKJan/Feb 2003: Eastern Europe, Middle EastMarch/April 2003: Australia, Japan, South East AsiaMay/June 2003: US, Canada, Central America, South AmericaJuly/Aug 2003: Festivals Europe

bassboy
Mugwump,Have you been to club "Piper" in N.Rome yet? I went on Easter eve and the whole city was in Church so I couldn't get an accurate feel of the place because it was sort of empty. The opening DJ played kind of commercial but very well mixed set, and the second DJ dropped some heavy techno but the place didn't react well to it for some reason.I got so drunk that I missed the pope the next morning! AH!But to be honest I found that most of the Nightlife in Italy was swamped by tourists and you had to go into the country for the big parties that they have. Let me know-Thanks
