lilliz77
Well for the longest time I have wanted to move down there. Even before my first time there last year for WMC, I wanted to and then being down there just made me want to even more. I am actually supposed to graduate within the next 2 quarters in Merchandising Management so fashion is my major. I have been looking for jobs down there on the internet but have been unsuccessfulA few questions I need to ask you guys1)How is the job market there?2)How are the living conditions there?3)Does it get too hot? (I love the sun/heat, but I am from Chi-town, where there is a lot of cold weather)4)Would you not reccommend me moving from Chicago to Miami? Please let me know what you think of this. Thanks! Guest saleen351
AVOID MIAMI AT ALL COST. CHECK OUT THE BURBS BY LAUDERDALE. GIVES YOU THE BEST OF BOTH WORDS. JOB MARKET SUCKS, BUT FLORIDA IS MUCH BETTER THEN OTHER CITIES. IT GETS REAL HOT IN THE SUMMER BUT THE WINTER HERE IS JUST SICK...I'M FROM NJ, WE HAD 4 GREAT MONTHS AND 8 SHITTY ONES. HERE YOU HAVE 8 GREAT MONTHS AND 4 NOT SO BAD MONTHS..
dnice35
1) Job market is kinda bad right now... then again its bad everywhere.2) Its is fairly expensive, but you can find an apt. from 650-1000 a month, effeciencies will run you somewhere around $500 or so.3) Its hot year round, the coldest I ever seen the temp get here was in the low 40's, but that rarely happens. winter time its usually in the 50-60's4) Personally I never been to Chi-Town, but I know Miami and its awesome!!!!! funketeer
It wouldn't be a bad idea coming down for a weekend to check out the city, get a feeling of the vibe...as you can see by other posts, Miami might not be for everyone. If you enjoy the simple things in life as well as the highly sophisticated, I have to say that Miami's got it all...at least for me.Now, just like the rest of the country, jobs are kinda hard to find. The best things Miami has to offer are free; My personal favorite is that I can go to the beach all year round.good luck
guyman1966
The way to do this is to find a job with a company up north and then have them transfer you after a year or two. This way you will be making good money when you arrive.

lolahotass
yo whats up - I'm from Michigan... been here over 5 years; and I'm never going back North. The weather kicks ass; there's beaches everywhere, you are within 4 hours of 3 other decent cities (perfect for weekend getaways - Tampa, Ft. Myers, Naples, Key West, and Orlando). South Beach is pretty damn neat - the clubs are pretty kewl, downtown Miami is on the rise; and watch out for Ft. Lauderdale (I reside just outside of Lauderdale in Hollywood).I am pleased with my choice of South Florida.... I can't offer much on the job area; I've been with the same company for 5 years (we are hiring by the way) - so can't give much insight on the fashion industry..Good luck - feel free to PM me with any other questions....By the way, I love Chicago - I totally dug Crobar and all the Crokiddies - super hospitable:D Lola:eek:
lilliz77
Thanks Lola and everyone else for giving me your 2 cents on this...As in any move it is always a tough decision and definately a risk. Don't get me wrong, I love Chicago, but just need to explore my options and see whats out there and the top 2 things I love are fashion and clubbing so the best places would be Miami, New York and LA. The music scene here has gotten much much better within the last 8 months or so, and hear of nothing but bigger and better things. Anyway, Lola I will PM you and mrmovement thank you so kindly for that compliment and I do hope that you know I am the lil shorty on the right. Please keep the comments coming. meng
I love this city....been living here all my life....everyone's comments have been pretty accurate.... I'd add that in Coral Gables you could find an apartment for as little as 400 bucks a month and it's a great area.....

sunnyhost
If your in the fashion Industry why don't you check out what job options you might have with major department stores such as Burdines, Nordstrom, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Etc. A large mall just opened up here called Merrick Park (In the Coral Gables area which Meng mentioned to in reference to apartments) and a lot of people I know have been able to get really great jobs in the stores in that mall with major designer labels such as Celine, Michael Korrs, Donna Karan, Channel, Etc....not all the stores are open yet, so I am sure there are plenty of job opportunities there.
