LOUNGES DO NOT SUCK SALEEN:rolleyes:

I actually love going to lounges to hear good tunes... You can relax and really get into the music. I like going to clubs to dance on occassion, but lounges are my actual preference.

Just cuz you aren't into lounges doesn't mean that suck dude.

NERVE

SAVING THE WORLD, ONE PARTY AT A TIME!!!

There are plenty of new clubs in South Beach, but this one is NEW AND DIFFERENT, we swear! It has some NERVE!!!

The entire VIP-Champagne-Private Party scene is good and people love it. Yes, people really, really love it! But they also like innovation, challenge, & eccentricity ... In short, they like the unpredictable!

But is South Beach ready for this?

It will be when it sees it, because NERVE is about to provide an overdose of all of the above: yes, salmon sofas covered in caviar with midgets in gas masks and all the other good things that life has to offer!

NERVE is not about the traditional white walls and white beds featured in all those exclusive establishments where everybody goes.

NERVE is about overlapping different tribes creating a friction that produces splendid social energy. Different crowds that feed on each others uniqueness. Yes, this is actually a lot of FUN! It's a forgotten art form much used in those legendary NYC clubs from way back when clubs like Danceteria and Area, ruled the earth...

And talking about Area (the club that used to undergo a radical change of decor every 2 months) NERVE will do a complete makeover and feature a different theme several times a year, so that jaded night clubbers can look forward to a sense of displacement every time they come. Yes, let us throw a Benefit Party for the Displaced Populations of the Night! Cool, huh? So, on one occasion the club will look like Barbie land, and the next time the theme would be Dr. Calgary, with tilted walls and scary walking wounded and so on. We guarantee that it may amuse even the most lethargic slouches of Palm Beach's upper crust.

Oh, and the music: figments of high-energy old school bass beat intertwined with pixels of electro clash revisionism. Well, just come and listen to it and then you get the idea. And if not, you are going to have a good time regardless.

So, in a Nutshell:

WHAT: Social Surface. Decor Changes all the Time. It should be fun if you are there.

WHEN: Opening when we are ready, sometime in March

WHERE: Cool address: 247 23rd Street in Sobe, Miami. Tel 305 695 8697

WHO: Club legend Rudolf, DJ extraordinaire Michael Storms and Real Estate Mogul Mario Sopena. A wonderful combination of character and pizzazz. Nervy dudes, that is for sure! Also keep a look out for local icons Mark Leventhal, Carmel Ophir, & DJ Roman Ricardo (tunnel, roxy, 1018, paradise garage, etc.)

Plus much more name dropping to follow soon

WHY: Because we are just evil, that is why. And besides, we just got bored with most other clubs.

Well, that is about it.

We though you oughta know.

If you want more info, contact us.

Well, passed by the former Lola on my way home from volleypalooza. Nice to see they're hard at work, even on a Sunday night! Construction people going full throttle. The place has been gutted. Obviously a complete makeover is coming. Hope it turns out nicely. Saw the dwarfs (or is it little people?)advertising for nerve at volleypalooza. So are you guys really going to be fully staffed by little people? Any special guests for WMC?

ALSO IN THE booth will be DJ Michael storms,

Michael has held the Saturday night residency spot at every major venue in south beach & has played at most of the top venues in NYC & the Hamptons.

Michael has over twenty years experience in both live nightclub engagements and private entertainment contracting / promotions. Michael has exceptional programming intuition and mixing ability. Michael had permanent weekly residencies at some of the East coasts most respected nightclubs, venues included, Saturday nights at the two hottest nightclubs in south beach Crobar & Space after hours (he was the first DJ to have the after hrs. residency at space, before the patio was even opened), both venues hold upwards of 3,000 people and cater to Miami’s premier Celebrity & Model A-List crowd. In addition Michael has played in several countries and has recently gone into the studio.

----------------------------------

Also aboard the NERVE Promotion team - will be DJ/promoter and local favorite Mark Leventhal

Master Deejay Mark Leventhal put the funk in Fat Black Pussycat, the longest, cool running, funk ‘n’ hip hop club night in South Beach. Thrown every Monday night at Liquid to a cast of thousands, Leventhal proves he is the Mac Daddy of soul as the room keeps on rocking full of groovers breathing for boogie space.

One of South Beach’s premier spin doctors, Leventhal broke out Aqua’s outrageous Tea Dance on Ocean Drive in 1991, then whipped through the Nineties at every hot club in town from Velvet to Groove Jet, Rebar and Bash. Promoting big theme nights “Hercules†and “Home Cookin’ â€, his company, M. L. Productions of Miami, soon roped in a loyal following that had superstars Madonna, Sly Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Gianni Versace and the Artist Formerly Known as Prince knocking.

In 1993, Leventhal spun Glam Slam’s South Beach grand opening by simultaneously broadcasting his Purple Majesty’s birthday bash via satellite to Glam Minneapolis and LA. In 1995, by special request, Leventhal’s get down services were acquired for the Material Girl’s first New Year’s Eve party at her bay front mansion. Ditto for ‘96. When “Fair Game†mega producer Joel Silver and Billy Baldwin threw a wrap party poolside at the Biltmore Hotel, Leventhal was there to mix it up for costar Cindy Crawford and crew.

“We had a great deejay!†gushed the blushing supermodel in Premiere ’s “The Cindy Chroniclesâ€, August 1993. “Everyone was saying goodbye, exchanging wrap presents and dancing and dancing and having a good time!†Soon the cast and crew of Demi Moore’s “Striptease†called.

Since Leventhal was a teenager spinning disco in Maplewood, New Jersey, having a good time has always been his goal. No wonder New Times voted him Best Club Deejay of 1996 (***check year) then Best Society Deejay of 1997 (***check year). Year after year super clients like Details magazine fly him out to corporate shindigs to party. His A-list includes these big bizwigs -- Diesel, Ford Models, Cynthia Rowley, Paper magazine, Cadillac, Fed Ex, and AT&T.

ok i'm gonna try and sound "pc" on this post. But mark levanthal, is not a good dj. I meet him once after a guy in nj wanted to book him for a new club up there so I went and checked him out. He was playing horrible hip hop and nothing but noise comming out of the speakers. Hes a nice guy, but i'm not here to talk about the person they are, just if they are good as a dj... Point is, don't use him....

I disagree, used to go and hear Mark Leventhal play soul & funk classics at Fat Black and he was wicked. Hope that's what he's playing at Nerve.

i'm not sure what type of music he plays, but on that one night it was hip hop, so if he plays some house or other type he may be good, so i'm speaking of his hip hop performance as being bad.

you should hear him play classics, he's got a good collection of stuff. I've never heard him play hip hop so I don't know...

Roman Ricardo sounds like he's got some history behind him, I'm not too familiar with him, would be interesting to hear what he plays.

I'm sure every dj has a bad night... some of the best in the world get a bad review every now and then. Mark is the man... I used to go hear him almost 8 years ago playing the PHATTEST funk and R&B when Fat Black Pussycat was at one of it's original homes... long before there was a Space, before there was a Crobar, before there was a Level, before there was a Liquid, or Liquids as all my Hialeah peeps liked to call it.

He has been a permanent fixture in South Beach long before all the NY/NJ transplants thought it was cool... I'm a transplant too, I'm not bashing, I'm just trying to create a timeline here.

Mark has also been responsible for being on the promotions side of some of the most legendary parties and clubs down there as well. Not to mention, if a celebrity is in town and they want a dj for their private soire' at their mansion... who ya gonna call... Mark Leventhal

Agreed. Mark's a good DJ in the sense he plays crowd-pleasing tunes and throws fun parties. Never heard him spin say a house set, but I'm sure he could if he was asked to.

If Nerve wants to truly make an impact, they can't just rely on Leventhal and Roman Ricardo. Those guys cater to the A-list crowd, and may just alienate the audience that the building once held on to, through no fault of their own...but the team behind the club seemingly has their sights set on the A-list. Lola was as open as could be, it'd be a shame if Nerve turns into another Mynt/Privé style lounge.

I'd like to see a return of Big DJ Little Club, personally. It'd be great to have that again.

POD... Let's think in two sets of shoes... I agree with you, although the whole team hs a pretty resume' and all that... they need to set their sights on the big picture and look at a considerable amount of outside talent and help...

If they have the experience they say they do have (and they do)... Better yet POD.. .let's pretend you are opening a club.. wouldn't you shoot for the A-List crowd as well... I would... I would just be careful to not alienate the rest of the people as well.... that's a true talent when a venue or promoter can attract and have the A-List in their club and the B's nd C's don't feel that they don't belong. Let's face it... they are all in this business to make $$$, am I right???

And I think we need to face facts.. Lola is gona and the new owners shouldn't feel obligated to carry-on any torches???

So I totally agree with you in a sense, but I just hope this place doesn't end up dead because they shut people out... I'm waiting on this one with ya POD!

Well I’m glad to see all the posts, I will try and address some of them, first of all as far as the A crowd thing - no club owner wants to start at the D crowd level since the next step below that is OUT OF BUSINESS, AS WE HAVE ALL SEEN ON THIS BEACH. Our concept will be to get the cream of the crop from each group, yes we want the A’s, but we want the best of the b's & c's as well. As long as someone brings something to the party (outrageous dress, style, personality, they are welcome. a room full of prada by itself is BORING just as much as a BUSTED D CROWD. the trick is to take the best of each group and MELT THEM TOGETHER TO FORM ONE BIG PARTY CROWD WITH NO LABELS!

DJ's / Music

DJ Michael storms

Is known for his tremendous ability to play for all different types of crowds, he can satisfy the most finicky vip room or get down and dirty with the best of them, anyone who has herd him play at the Crobar vip or on the main floor (first year of Crobar not now) knows what I’m talking about. The guy had the place rocking off the chain not once as a fluke bur every single Saturday night for over a year. When Michael was there, Crobar was one of the hottest clubs in the country and he had one of the most sought after residencies in south beach (same goes for his space residency)

DJ roman Ricardo

Most of you have probably not actually herd roman play (especially the person who commented on how roman caters to the a crowd - roman plays in monster clubs on monster systems for music enthusiasts i.e. when he started the roxy hip hop on sat nights I assure you not only was no one a vip, but most of the kids did not have a job, how about 1018, paradise garage, tunnel, palladium, these clubs did not cater to VIPs (there to big) they catered to the serious crowd who knows and loves music

DJ mark Leventhal

What was said was that mark Leventhal was on the team, no one from the club stated whether he would or not DJ. Mark by far is 100% the best LOCAL PROMOTER ON THE BEACH and his parties are the living proof, just look at some of the parties he either started or participated in, Hercules, ritual, fat black, home cookin etc etc. every one knows that depending on what type of event it is sometimes mark does not play and he uses other guys like radimus, mark ronson etc, but I guess you guys already know this, so depending on what type of night he is doing we will just have to wait and see who the DJ will be for his night.............I will say this though , as far as his dj’ing skills goes, when it comes to rare grooves and funky beats or promoting local parties trust me MARK IS THE MAN PERIORD THE END!

MORE DJ's TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON!

Hope this clarified a few issues - keep the intelligent questions coming!!!!!
