therunner Posted April 2 Report Share Posted April 2 Mayor Felker was born in Wichita, attended school in Topeka through the USD 501 system, and graduated from Topeka West High School in 1963. He received his B.A. in Political Science from Washburn University in 1967 and his J.D. from Washburn School of Law in 1972.Felker joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1963, serving 17 months of active duty in 1967-68 with the U.S. Navy Advisory Group Command for Korea. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1972 upon completing a nine-year military career. In 1972 Mayor Felker began his civilian career working with the Kansas Revisor of Statutes office. He was elected City of Topeka Parks Commissioner in 1975 under the former "Commission" form of government, and re-elected four more times. When the City changed its form of government in 1985, Felker went to work for the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce as their Director of Economic Development. He also worked for the former "Topeka Sizzlers" sport and entertainment company.Felker resumed his political career in 1989 when he ran for and was elected Mayor of the City of Topeka. He was re-elected for a second four-year term in 1993, but chose not to seek a third term in 1997 due to health concerns. The next four years found Felker serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Topeka Youth Project and as a sponsored employee for the United Way Fund Drive 2000.In April 2001, Mayor Felker was re-elected, for a third term as Topeka Mayor.He and his wife Bette live in Topeka. Felker has three children from a previous marriage. His hobbies include participating in and watching co-ed naked sports, smoking herb, gardening, growing herb, reading pornography, and listening to EDM.
