WMDs in Iraq?

Still no evidence. Also, something I wonder about...if the US did have *secret* intelligence about WMDs before the IRaq war (as many on this board believed), then why has that not turned up WMD's yet? SInce the war's close to over, why not use this *secret* evidence to turn up WMDs.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Lt. Gen. Amir al-Saadi, Saddam Hussein's top science adviser and Iraq's point man for the last round of U.N. weapons inspections, surrendered to coalition troops Saturday in Baghdad, according to a senior military official at U.S. Central Command.

German television network ZDF helped arrange al-Saadi's surrender and filmed it at the general's request to assure his safety.

ZDF said al-Saadi left his Baghdad home with his German-born wife Helga and surrendered to an American officer, who escorted him away. Al-Saadi also granted the network an interview, and told its reporter that he had no information about other members of the dictatorial regime -- including Saddam Hussein -- and insisted, as he had during the inspections regimen, that Iraq has no weapons of mass destruction.

Al-Saadi turned up Friday as the seven of diamonds on a deck of playing cards Central Command was handing out to coalition forces to help them identify regime leaders who could be "killed or captured" and was No. 55 on a list of wanted regime officials released by the U.S. Department of Defense

I was one who believed Iraq had WMD, and I still do.

I also never believed Iraq would use them during the war. I always felt Saddam would prefer to embarass the US then use WMD in the war, which would not have deterred the US militarily, and would bring world opinion against him.

I will admit that I would have thought the US would have found them by now. But I think it is also important to realize that Iraq mastered the art of concealment (and I also wonder if the Russian and French intelligence services have assisted--which would not surprise me considering what has been uncovered about their relationship with Iraq the last few weeks).

Also, the US has always said the key to actually finding WMD was the Iraqi scientists...this was always the stance of the US during inspections, and something the Iraqi's would never cooperate---let;s hope Saddam and his henchman did not kill them all

Also one must ask themselves--If Saddam really did not have WMD, then why not prove it prior to the war and not invite his own demise and destruction?

Also, I think we must be patient---as those who were questioning the "quagmire" war plan and also questioning "why aren't the Iraqi's dancing" learned to their embarassment...

I am confident they will be found

And when they do find them, the question then becomes "what will the anti-war" crowd turn their doomsday sights on next"

Bingo.

It's not that hard to see. If he makes the US prove he has them, then he drags them into a massive conflict as he has... including possibly turning the majority of world opinion against the United States, which he nearly did.

Now we have to prove he has them, or prove that he escaped and took them with him... OR prove that someone else came and snatched them when we weren't looking, earlier in the ball game.

either way, they didn't just vanish and i have a hard time believing the Iraqis decided one sunny saturday to get rid of them all on their own, with no coercion... oh, and whoops, they can't find the documentation for it either.

suuuuuuuure.
