Longo was 62 years old. One of the pioneers of futbol broadcasting in the United States ... the Buenos Aires ... Argentina native worked at the network now known as Univision from 1984 through 1999 before moving over to Telemundo. While at Univision ... Longo was the lead analyst for World Cup broadcasts in 1986 ... 1990 ... 1994 ... and 1998. Longo was best known for his passionate ... opinionated ... critical analysis ... particularly toward futbol products which he considered to be substandard ... He was openly critical of US Major League Soccer (MLS) during the early years of the league in the late 1990's. Mr. Longo is survived by his 3rd wife ... former tennis player Emilse Raponi. Had the opportunity to know him ... back in the days of the soccer newspaper I founded ... he was someone to look-up to ... for inspiration and professionalism.RIP ... Norberto ...
