"Boy breeds beetles in his body

Mon Jun 16,10:08 AM ET

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - A 13-year-old Indian boy has begun producing winged beetles in his urine after hatching the eggs in his body, a senior medical official says.

Doctor Chittaranjan Maity, Medical Education Director of West Bengal state where the boy is from, said doctors found the beetles while examining him for pain in the groin area.

"Doctors were really surprised to see the beetles," he told Reuters on Monday. "There are eggs of the beetle in a fistula in his body and he is getting medical treatment to try to kill the eggs," Maity said.

The boy had been taken to hospital on Sunday after complaining of pain while urinating.

The beetles - more than half a centimetre in length -- belong to the Staphylinidae rove beetle family of insects. Most types are predators but some feed on fungi, algae and decaying plant matter.

An expert in urology, Doctor N. Subramanian, said that in theory it was possible for insects to hatch in the body and come out in urine but said he had not heard of such a case."

Indian man scared to death by movie

1 hour, 38 minutes ago

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - A man was found dead in his seat at a cinema in the Indian capital after the late-night screening of a horror film which the director has warned could pose a health risk to those of a nervous disposition.

A police official told Reuters that the theatre's cleaning staff found the man -- aged around 50 -- slumped in his seat early on Tuesday morning after the end of the screening of Bollywood's latest horror movie, "Bhoot", or "Ghost".

Police said they had found no identification papers on the man or external injuries on his body.

"Nobody has come forward to claim his body. Maybe he got frightened, I don't know," said the police official.

"Bhoot" is a spooky thriller about a possessed housewife and is set in a high-rise Bombay apartment. It is running to packed houses in many parts of the country.

Before the movie starts, a message from the director appears on the screen warning people with heart problems or pregnant women that they view the film at their own risk.

Feuding Hatfields, McCoys Sign Truce

Tue Jun 17,10:46 AM ET Add Strange News - AP to My Yahoo!

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - A pen and ink sealed the end of Appalachia's most infamous bloody feud instead of a shotgun and bullets.

Descendants of the Hatfield and McCoy families gathered Saturday in Pikeville to sign the truce, making a largely symbolic and official end to a feud that had claimed at least a dozen lives from the two mountain families.

"We ask by God's grace and love that we be forever remembered as those that bound together the hearts of two families to form a family of freedom in America," says the truce, signed by more than 60 descendants.

Reo Hatfield of Waynesboro, Va., came up with the idea as a proclamation of peace.

The broader message it sends to the world, he said, is that when national security is at risk, Americans put their differences aside and stand united. If these two feuding families can come together, anyone can, he said.

"We're not saying you don't have to fight because sometimes you do have to fight," Hatfield said. "But you don't have to fight forever."

The more than a century of feuding between the McCoys of Kentucky and Hatfields of West Virginia is believed to have its origins in a dispute over a pig. A court battle over timber rights escalated the tension in the 1870s, and by 1888, as many as a dozen lives were lost.

Kentucky Gov. Paul Patton and West Virginia Gov. Bob Wise also signed proclamations declaring June 14 Hatfield and McCoy Reconciliation Day.

Ron McCoy, a founder of Hatfield-McCoy Festival, now in its fourth year, said the families haven't decided what to do with the signed proclamations.

"The Hatfields and McCoys symbolize violence and feuding and fighting," he said, "but by signing this, hopefully people will realize that's not the final chapter."

RICHMOND, California (AP) -- At 97, Gustava Bennett Burrus is the oldest person ever to graduate from Richmond High School.

The great-great-grandmother walked across the stage at Richmond Auditorium Saturday to accept an honorary diploma at the San Francisco Bay area public school, which was founded two years after her birth.

"My dream has come true," Burrus said.

Burrus, whose education was cut short in the fourth grade, began attending computer classes at the high school in January. It was her third time taking courses there over the past decade.

Her interest in computing began with the emergence of personal computers in the 1980s, but it wasn't until this year that she learned how to use a keyboard and mouse.

"This world is going to be a computer world," she said. "Everything is going to be run by computers."

Burrus was born in 1905 in a small Louisiana town, one of 10 children in a family of sharecroppers.

Two years later, her family moved to rural Oklahoma where they grew cotton, corn, tomatoes and other crops.

She attended school in a one-room school house in Boley, Oklahoma, until her parents pulled her out to help support the family.

"This world is going to be a computer world," she said. " At 97, granny invests all her money in the new and improved commodore64.gif hoping once and for all to get that great return on a longshot investment.

Granny buys new computer as she starts her new life as a high school grad. apple2std.gif

Business Owner Chases, Runs Over Robbery Suspects In Hummer

Two Suspects In Critical Condition

POSTED: 1:56 p.m. EDT June 16, 2003

UPDATED: 10:52 p.m. EDT June 16, 2003

A business owner in Phoenix, Arizona took matters into his own hands after a group of men robbed his business, according to a Local 6 News report.

Police say three armed suspects walked into the Mr. Insurance building in Phoenix and demanded money. A fourth suspect was in the getaway car, according to the report.

Investigators said after the suspects left with the store's money, the co-owner jumped into his Hummer and chased after the suspects.

Police said that the man, identified only as Peter, followed the suspects through a neighborhood and eventually caught up with them. He then rolled his Hummer over their car.

Two of the suspects were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The two other suspects managed to get away but police later caught them as well.

It is not known if Peter will face charges.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (AP) -- A man impersonating a police officer was arrested after he tried to pull over a motorist -- who turned out to be a real cop.

The off-duty officer became suspicious because the lights on the imposter's car were blue. Kansas City police use a combination of blue and red flashing lights, said police spokesman Capt. Rich Lockhart.

The officer called a dispatcher and a nearby patrol car tried to stop the suspect, who was driving a blue Crown Victoria, a vehicle commonly used by police.

The suspect led police on a 6-mile chase that ended after officers used "stop sticks" to puncture the suspect's tires. The man lost control of his car and crashed into a utility pole, Lockhart said.

The 30-year-old suspect, who was not identified, jumped out of his car and ran a short distance before he was captured.

Authorities were questioning the man Wednesday and had not released a possible motive. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon
