why does ny have 2 teams?

Recommended Posts

2 baseball teams: mets, yankees

2 american football teams: buffalo bills, giants

what's the difference btwn the teams? why don't other states have 2?

I don't watch those sports but i was talking to someone today who mentioned it and I wondered why.

coming to think of it, why isn't it called "american rugby"?

Diff with Mets/Yank, Mets are the national league and the Yankees are American league...(National league the picther bats, american league they have a designated(sp) hitter for the pitcher)

Some states do have more than 2 teams, California has a quite a few baseball teams, not exactly sure how many off hand, but probablly over 5 to 6 baseball teams... Football as well.

it usually has to do with the size of a city or metropolitan area. most major cities have 2 teams in some sports as they are big enough for each team to have it's own following. it's not to far fetched, think of some bigger eauropean cities and the amount of football teams they have:

MILAN: Inter & Milan

TURIN: Juventus and Torino

MADRID: Real, Atletico and Rayo Vallecano

LONDON: Asrenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Charlton, Fulham, Wimbledon, etc.

MANCHESTER: Man U. & Man City

LIVERPOOL: Liverpool & Everton

BARCELONA: Barcelona & Espanol

in NY:

NHL: Rangers & Devils

NBA: Kicks & Nets

NFL: Giants & Jets

MLB: Yankees & Mets

in LA:

NHL: Kings & Ducks

NBA: Lakers & Clippers

NFL: None

MLB: Angels & Dodgers

(plus UCLA and USC college teams)

CHICAGO:

NHL: Just 1 team

NBA: Just 1 team

NFL: Just 1 team

MLB: Cubs & White Sox

NY is a big city that can have all of these pro teams and ensure that each team has its own fan base.
