Its obviously a lot more fresh in someone's mind. Kinda like when the Grammys or any other awards shows only accepts songs or whatever they are giving out awards for that came out until a certain point. And definately out of the bunch, some will be one of the tops of the year. I just looked at some tracks which came out last December (2002), and i see at least 5 big ones. I remember when I complied my best-tracks-of-2002 list last year, I included those 5 on my 2002 list..although they were still going strong in early 2003.
