reviews on clubs..... what is the"scene"?

Recommended Posts

I have read numerous threads about people knocking venues. Avalon, when it opened... and now Crobar.

The scene was created on people being different and an energy being created from that difference... it's about the gay boys, the "freaks", the b and t suburban crowd, the old, the young.... all coming together to experience life and the music together.

I remember the limelight days..when everyone partied together, and that's why I fell in love with the "scene".

It was a magical place..where everyone left their day life behind them.. and let loose all together.

I remember those days.. meeting people with names like "smile" or "energy" etc.....people had identities in the clubs. Call them "clubkids"...call them spritutual.. call them fucked up, "freaks"...whatever.. but call them true believers and dreamers..artists of their own mind.

The venues don't make the scene..they provide a place for the scene to happen. We should ll be thankful to all those investors and dreamers who take risks to make this happen. They do it for us, the people.. hoping to achieve something greater; hoping to expand our minds..our hearts.

Don't knock the people that are different than you... you live in america where difference is what keeps us americans.. the club scene takes that difference to the next level... it's place of pur freedom. Act as you like, wear what you like..be who you like.

It's about finding the energy inside yourself. not in the venue....

find the energy within.. dance by yourself with you eyes closed like you were all alone... reach deeper .

Please open your minds... find the energy..the good energy and share it witht hose around you..

I could go on and on about how passion is the key..but it is a key to a door that you the people need to open.

Give Avalon, Spirit, Crobar.. a chance to please you..

give yourself a chance to please yourself...

I promise you.. you won't be dissappointed.

that is all. thanks for listening.

I hear what you're saying Joe...but its kinda beating a dead horse around these parts. I feel like you cant force it, it will rebound when its ready to do so. I will say this, I HATED Avalon my first time out there, but I cannot deny they are bringing in fantastic talent and its getting me to head over that way alot more than I thought I would be....I am really excited now about what they are doing.

B] Act as you like, wear what you like..be who you like.

Joe,

That is beautifully said...but..I think you are missing what is really going on out there in clubland here in NYC.

Tell me one club that allows for you to do that..the statement in bold?

People at Avalon are turned away for "wearing what they like".

and..you are missing the crucial part here...where is the musical diversity?

Who's taking the risks with the DJ's?

These new venues are great, except for the fact that they are bringing in DJ's that are going to bring the same sounds that NYC has heard for the past 4 years...

I am not going to get specific here, I mean,Props tp Crobar for having Yahel on the 24, but, all in all, there is no Great change here.

I am extremely optimistic, and perhaps I can see more clearly, but, there is NO Change.

Nothing has changed Joe, and please don't try and glorify the scene..

True, the club doesn't create the vibe, the people do, but, where is this "Diversity" that you speak so much of?

It has not been created yet..it will... but..not yet...

But why stop only with AVALON,SPIRIT,CROBAR give every club a shot once you find your "scene".

I am not at all.. they are the newest and most recently.. "knocked" venues and also the best/biggest venues the city has "scene" in a while.

That's funny!

Moving on...

Joe,

"Evolutionary=1 : one of a set of prescribed movements

2 a : a process of change in a certain direction.

These new superclubs that are gracing NY have no such meaning.

Where is the real "change"..and I'm not talking about scenery and bla,bla,bla,..

Joe, you know exactly what I'm talking about. This is something that cannot be described,it has to be known and felt...and maybe I am talking a bit too deep here, but, if you are so kken to the "scene" as you make yourself out to be, then you should know that and stop trying to fool yourslef and everyone else.

As I mentioned before,if you read, where is the musical diversity?

Which clubs offer gay,straight,bi?

it's a feeling joe,it's such a great feeling, that people look forward to the weekend.people look forward to going out, I don't "feel"that Joe...something is wrong still...

Something is still missing..and as I said, that "something" cannot be explained, it must be felt...

Do u hear me now?

I do see change..evolving... not new..but evolved. Evolution is the process of change..

Spirit is a club/venue with dinner and live shows. Is that not different enough??? I think it's great.

and what you don't feel is in you.. you need to find it or let it find you...maybe we have gotten old..stopped doing drugs..become jadedetc.

..but if you are passionate enough ..you will find that feeling.. I truly believe that.

thats what I was trying to say....

True Joe,

What I don't feel is in me, hence, something is missing..and I feel that in side.

Something in this city is missing, and it saddens my heart.

Looking on the brighter side, enough of the downside,

This city will be properly "run" soon enough...

That is all for now...

great post Joe :)

I have to agree, the essence of the scene is the people, and there is an indescribable feeling that comes along with the good vibe.

My take on things is that, yes, people HAVE forgotten to close their eyes and feel the music. I think alot of people are so worried to look/dress/act like club goers that many truly have forgotten what it is all about: the music. Honestly, any time I have felt a "good" vibe at a club it was because I was surrounded by people with a LOVE for the music. They got down with their little selves!!!!! and didn't care who was watching. People who come to dance and for the sole reason of hearing/feeling the music without any superficial bullshit are the ones that carry the true vibe...

The reason they have forgotten these things is because the clubs have brainwashed everyone into this form of thinking that...

If you don't dress a certain way..if you don't have a woman by your side..if you don't ..well..you get the point..

This conditioning has evolved over the years here in NY..and it's a disgrace..

If you don't like this DJ then you have a problem...

Don't you see...everyone follows the masses here..and it truly disturbs me..

It's sad..but true...

What you are talking about are things of the past..and yes..they can be brought back..but...

They are not here as of yet...

and anybody who thinks that this is occurring now..has been misleaded..

There is something massive in the works...

and I will leave it at that..

So everyone is looking for a party with a great vibe. I dont know where all of you are from, but on Long Island, there is this new place called NATION, devoted to underground house music, and bringing the scene back to what it once was. We have been open for 3 weeks and have got nothing but great reviews.

Week one we had ANTHONY NERO, whom you all might know spun in CLUB PACHA IN IBIZA.

SNOW STORM WE STAYED OPEN AND HAD GREAT LOCAL TALENT UP ON THE DECKS.

AND THIS PREVIOUS WEEK WE HAD MIKE MACALUSO AND PETER BAILEY WHO IMPRESSED THE SHIT OUT ME. THE MUSIC WAS UNREAL.

THIS WEEK DEC 19TH LOW END SPECIALISTS ARE GOING TO BE HERE AND ITS A BEDROCK RECORD RELEASE PARTY. I KNOW ALL OF YOU MUST BE SAYING LONG ISLAND CLUBS SUCK NOTHING BUT COMMERCIAL HOUSE AND HIP HOP. BUT WE HERE ARE CHANGING THAT, AND BRINGING BACK WHAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT IN THE FIRST PLACE MUSIC, DIVERSITY AND JUST HAVING A KICK ASS TIME.

IF YOU LIVE IN THE CITY I KNOW ITS A TREK, BUT IM TELLING YOU COME HERE ONCE AND YOU WILL BE HOOKED.

CHECK IT OUT AT CLUBNATIONLI.COM. OR YOU GUYS CAN P/M ME.

P/S.

SIZE OF CLUB DOES NOT MATTER, LOOK AT ARC DISCOTHEQUE AND CENTROFLY, ALL GREAT CLUBS NOT NEAR THE SIZE OF THESE OTHER MONSTROSOTIES, AND HAVE A GREAT VIBE.

HOPE TOO SOME OF YOU DOWN AT NATION.
