ive got my stupid XP set for auto-updates...anytime something new is available it pops up and lets me know.

Question is that ive ben getting a Security patch upgrade nearly every day for the past week or two and was wondering if my computer just isnt installing it properly so XP keep on prompting me to install the damn patch. Or is there REALLY a new patch every day because of recent virus scares?

has anyone been getting security patch updates daily or every other day?

Dude turn off the automatic update and just do it yourself. Once a week is good. Well unless you hear of a major virus.

its only been recently with the sasser virus that its been like this. otherwise i get a notice like once every couple of weeks.

why the hell would i do it manually when it can just prompt me with new updates? HOW i do it isnt the issue...

recently there has been alot of patches. i dunno about everyday thou. at work here, we just have one of those patches pushed out using sms and altiris. is there was a packet pushed out i would know. and as far as i look at it. there was a few yesterday. and thats about it. i think your windows updater is screwed up. of you reboot before it finishes download/installing. and that will cause it to prompt you again..

i think its screwed up...its seems like its the SAME patch everytime..its says "(835732)" (i think thats the #..either way its the same # every time) in the title of the DL...

is there a way to fix the autoupdate? or maybe reinstall it i guess? im sure something else will go wrong if i do this................windows...............bleh

just some thoughts.......

1. I assume you reboot everytime after you install your patches (just checking)

2. I would look into the possibility of your machine being infected and the virus won't allow the specific patch to get installed.

3. Try running it manually to see if the patches get installed properly. (if that doesn't work then there could be a problem with your automatic updater.
