DJ Louie Devitto?????

Hey Philipio...different strokes for different folks. For the most part people on this board are way ahead of the curve. Louie Devito has sold more dance music cd's than anyone else by far. Over 6 million to be exact. His cd's aren't really geared to the "heads" (us) but more to the mainstream population that may only have one or two dance music cds in their libraries...chances are these people have one of his. He happens to be a nice guy...and is very serious about his craft. He has also done a lot for the dance music industry. You need to look at the big picture.

Just my .02 cents.

And yes I am a promoter, and yes Louie has played for me multiple times.

I would have to agree. in addition to selling massive amounts of music , and drawing attention to dance music. he also donated a portion of the profits, from one his albums to aid the families of the victims of 9/11. at the very least he deserves props for what he has managed to accomplish. I'm sure there are a bunch of dj's out there ,who would love to be in his position. call his music cheese, commercial or whatever, but the man is making bank. :)

Great that he is giving back...anyone that makes that kind of money off the music he pushes should give a little back. Props for the humanitarian things he has done...but I still wouldn't want to listen to him spin or buy any of his CDs. Just a difference of musical opinion...I happen to disagree with what his actual positive impact may be on EDM and how it translates into preservation of quality within a scene that is becoming more and more commercially corupted...but thats just my opinion.

:banghead: he has been involved in dance music, for longer then most of the members on this board.Louie Devito has more then paid his dues. he is not out to impressive CP or the dance music message board community. in fact I'm sure he could careless with regard to the same. he makes music for the masses, and the masses seem to be receptive to what he puts out. I'm a bit confused on what quantifies ,as an actual positive impact on the EDM or dance music scene to be more specific. quality is rather subjective, as such there is no clear definition of the same. file sharing thief's, overindulgent recreational drug users, elitists clubbers, etc are what corrupts a scene. self righteousness, abuse, and negativity is like a virus in this scene. it just keeps spreading out of control. fouturtantely or unfortunately commercialism is a part of true success. it's all fine to be in for the music.at the end of the day ,the reality is you need to pay bills ,build a financial future for yourself ,and possibly your family. the people that are a TRUE success, in the dance music business have already figured that out. :)

hey, me and eddie g saw him live at Avalon in Boston, after our show at Pravda 116, and the guy sucked such ass :flush: , i have never heard something so terrable :biggun: . in the middle of the set he starts pumpin hip hop into a club full of rollers  , and ended his set with 3 hip hop songs.

i wouldnt waste the time, money, anything on this guy. i stayed the whole night at Avalon because we were supporting John Debo the Booking agent and the resident dj Nailz made this guy look like a PORK :chop:

I MEAN THIS GUY REALLY :hung: HIMSELF. Me and Eddie had been in the dj booth and u never saw 2 people run from that booth then how fast we ran. we hung out with lighting guy :bounce: after that, BUT THE LIGHTING GUY KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING!

Thats all good and fine, but the question was if we ever heard him and our opinion of if he is any good. In my opinion he isn't, plain and simple. I am not gonna sugar coat some non-sense response because some guy knows how to market high end cheese to the masses of musically uneducated. What quantifies as quality? Thats the problem people don't have clue in general so they pick up on the most accessible garbage out there just to try to fit in and be one of the cool kids and thats where people like LD capatilize (on the ignorance of the masses). He's not out to impress anyone...I am sorry I thought he was suppose to be in the entertainment business where impressing people is ideal. All this lets be positive and accepting of this and that is falling short with me because I do value our scene and music and people like this only serve to bring it down and turn it into new wave bubble gum pop pushing scores of deserving artists down the ladder making the reality of pursuing their passion that much more difficult. What I read into what was said is that in order to be a TRUE success a person has to sell out to commercialism and make as much money as possible because any true success has already done that. I didn't know success was soley based on financial gain (sure in the most conventional aspect it is), but in some people's radical view it can also be measured in respect, quality and staying true to one's ideals. If I had to conform my passion to fit the mainstream's undeducated perception of good music I would find another career and stay true to my ideals. There are plenty of examples through-out musical history of quality music and the influences it has had on newer music. Of course its subjective and mainly quality lends its self to the opinions of people that have had experience, education (formal and non-formal), a working knowledge and time tested passion to seek out the most original and diverse music out there....otherwise any award show out there would have Britney Spears cleaning up. Overindulgence....if that were just the case with clubbers maybe...but I have been witness to numerous bigger name DJs all geeked out of their minds with the access to be 10X more over the top than any clubber...thats the scene and it will always be like that (whether its liqour, drugs etc). I don't think of myself as elitist and I agree there are many people out there that push that boundary to the max....I try to find quality in all musical genres..focusing on technical ability, song selection and originality. What I won't allow myself to do is be accepting of recycled mundane unoriginal music in the hopes that it may better our community because its not making it better...it maybe making it bigger...but the music and truly talented artists are suffering. Quantity most often doesn't equate to quality. Just because this guy is selling millions of predictable CDs doesn't mean his music is quality and certainly doesn't mean I have to respect him for it. I am all for a little commercialism...ie Morillo, Felix Da Housecat...because at least they still do it with music in mind and how to translate that to the masses...its the over the top junk that has been flooding this scene for the last 5 years getting played in heavy rotation on 93.1 etc that makes my stomach turn.

musically uneducated. let's be for real here. your an expert on music education now? you can evaluate whether someone is musically educated? seems a little arrogant to me. people respond to what sounds good to their ears, and makes their feet move. whether that is a trained ear is really subjective. incidentally, I never said he was not out to impress anyone.

in fact this is precisely what I said "he is not out to impressive CP or the dance music message board community. in fact I'm sure he could careless with regard to the same. he makes music for the masses and the masses seem to be receptive to what he puts out." selling records that draw attention to the scene, and appeals to the masses is bringing the scene down? sounds a little shallow to me... once again commercialism is a part of true success. you define it as selling out. very clearly I see it as making something accessible to the masses. if you choose to compromise your own personal passion regarding the same, that is clearly your choice. it is fairly obvious quantity doesn't not equate to quality. however quality is extremely subjective, and rather personal in nature. I'm accepting to most anything where dance music is concerned. accepting; in that I listen with an unbiased ear, and determine based on my personal preference if I like it. if others don't share my preferences. I'm wise enough to know, that I must respect that, and avoid impeding on their personal preferences. it is peoples self righteous and condescending attitudes, that pisses me off and raises a black cloud over the scene. if I where a DJ I would want my music to reach the ears of as many people as possible. one should not have to compromise there personal passions to achieve that. Louie Devito makes what you and others call commercial dance music; or Cheese if you will. So What! if that's his passion then more power to him. it's all about respect, in the very broad sense of the word.

personally I don't value his music as most of the tracks on his discs, are usually played out by the time he releases his stuff. I've heard him live before for free. certainly not my cup of tea, but he rocked the house.it's rather unlikely I would pay to see him; since I wasn't crazy about what I heard previously.

Good so there is hope for you yet - J/K

No, I can see your point and agree with a lot of what you said but I think we have slightly different opinions on what effect present and future these types of DJs and the music they play will actually have on the culture. So I can respectfully agree to disagree.
