Paul van Dyk Rocked in Central Park

Recommended Posts

Despite the downpour - and I'm talking sheets and sheets coming down and occasional lightening and thunder - PvD was SO ON!

When he started his set at 6:00 - the rain had just started - and boy, it came down hard! no light showers or drizzle, it was a full on thunder storm and everyone got soaked and didn't give a shit..

His set was full of breaks, not alot of anthem songs, a few sunrise numbers and a couple signature PvD tracks. He's a master at telling a story through music - you can tell when he's warmed up and when he's winding down from what songs he plays. His set had a nice flow and wasn't too mainstream.

by 9pm the rain was still pouring down and at least 700 dancing fans were drenched, soaked and cheering Paul on. Once people accepted that the rain was gonna stay, no one was going to let it spoil the day. If you can't beat it -Join it, was the attitude. Throw you're umbrella down, take you shoes off and dance in the rain until you can't feel it anymore.

I think, for Paul, this was one of his finest NYC moments. You could see the cheek to cheek grin on his face - all these people came out to hear him play despite the monsoon like conditions. He kept coming to the side of the stage and passing out napkins.

Even Paul and the DJ booth got wet. Mike Bindra (in black poncho) came on stage and held an umbrella over Paul, to keep him and his laptop dry, before the entire stage crew physically moved the DJ booth forward - midway through a song that didn't skip a beat.

In the end, I would've preferred a dry event - but that was not going to happen, no one was going to let it ruin their day. Together, we all stuck it out. I think it was one of the best PvD events ever.

I didn't go to Spirit - Would love to know how it went

awesome bro. Sounds like you had a good time even though it rained. I was going to hit up spirit to see PVD but somehow i ended up at Crobar instead. It was terrible!! DJ was spinning some good house beats but the crowd was terrible. The crowd was about 80% asian.
