Maria's Children - An Arts Rehabilitation Center for Russian Orphans

Our Moscow-based organization provides arts therapy and training for Russian orphans. We offer an atmosphere in which children can recognize their creative potential, developing talents and self-esteem that will serve them in later life. By inviting these children into our homes, teaching them life skills, and exposing them to safe, loving family environments, we hope to improve their chances of successful integration into society.

There are now at least 750,000 orphans living in Russia. 95% of them have parents, somewhere, that are unable or unwilling to care for them. These "social orphans" are wards of the state, and most live in orphanages, suffering from a lingering belief that a state institution is a better place to raise a child than a family home. Foster care is a new, fragile program here, and is not supported by most orphanage directors. At the age of four, the children - most of whom have been starved of intimate contact and stimulation - are given one chance to pass a grossly inappropriate evaluation of their mental ability. Those who perform poorly are diagnosed as mentally handicapped, as "debil;" this is the case of the children we work with.

Signal strength has pretty much nothing to do with the phone, so the first thing you're going to want to do is drop AT&T. According to the FCC, no portable handheld wireless phone can work on more than .6 watts. To get a better signal, you need something more powerfull like a bag phone (3 watts), or a mounted car phone (5 watts). Since nobody makes either of those anymore, you're going to have to switch to a company that has better coverage than AT&T (which is just about all of them).

Nextel has the most durable phones, but the battery life generally sucks. Nokia's tend to have the best battery life, but don't take too well to being dropped. As for buisiness class, you're best bet is to get a blackberry (but once again, not with AT&T).

Can those automatically translate lame and unreadable messages into funny sarcastic wit? That's what Scavy really needs.

on serious note, the way you guys incorporated the 50's and the 1 other joke that keeps recurring about me, into my question about cellphones, is actually hilarious this time...(for once).

oh yeah i think i'm gonna get a nokie 6850, or a blackberry, haven't decided.
