12inch
Here is some info. from the Star LedgerBY TOM HAYDON Star-Ledger Staff Woodbridge officials want state authorities to review a Main Street nightclub where police say 300 to 500 people leaving the club early Sunday caused a riot, shooting handguns, setting off firecrackers, starting several fights and briefly stopping traffic on the busy road. Police from at least five other Middlesex County towns rushed to help Woodbridge police disperse the crowd outside Club Sleep about 2:45 a.m. Sunday. There were no reports of injuries, police said. Patrons had parked at the club and at the Lowe's store lot about 500 feet west on Main Street, authorities said. When crowds left Main Street, about 100 people went to the nearby Hess station convenience store on Route 9, where food and soda cans were thrown about and people left without paying for merchandise. A crowd then went to the Syms clothing store parking lot on King Georges Road, where altercations erupted again. Once dispersed from there, the crowds moved south to South River, where police called for assistance to break up the group. "It was a riotous condition," Woodbridge Police Chief Philip Dinicola said. "There have been other calls for disturbances at the club, but nowhere near this magnitude," Dinicola said. All available Woodbridge officers were sent to the club, including two officers who were chasing a suspect in a burglary at the Bertucci's restaurant on Routes 1&9. Police who tried to disperse the crowd found themselves surrounded by hostile patrons, authorities said. Two people were arrested on disorderly person charges and later released, police said. Woodbridge Councilman Charles Kenny, whose 1st Ward includes the area around the club, said he had requested copies of reports about recent disturbances at the club after hearing concerns about officers being far outnumbered by patrons. "I heard concerns about officers' safety," Kenny said. When the club's liquor license was renewed last June, Kenny said he voted against it, because the club owners had said they reached an agreement to use the parking lot in the bowling alley across the street, but the owner of the bowling alley later said there was no agreement. "We want to have a hearing on this situation to address this before something else might happen," Kenny said. Municipal officials said the township contacted the state Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control yesterday. "We will hold someone accountable for it," said Woodbridge Business Administrator Robert Landolfi. "Anytime that type of behavior results from the presence of an establishment, it is not acceptable. We're not going to take this incident lightly, this is very serious. We're going to be aggressive." No manager or owner of the club returned calls late yesterday
