currently your native country Greece is on the sidelines with Portugal.. :D

Greece never wins many medals. In Sydney, I believe we won 8 total. There are only 10 million people in my country and our economy is not strong enough to justify the insane amounts of financial support for our sports programs that the US can afford. That's the reality of it! I'm proud that we have 3 medals in the first week. I'm more proud that the Olympics are hosted back home (and if I could afford airfare, I'd be there right now). :D

oh cry me a river.. lame excuse, and yet another cheap shot at the US (don't hate appreciate). there are quite a few countries, not as financially established that do quite well at the Olympics. all the money in the world can’t buy tenacity and desire that comes from within. :)

LOL.... currently Greece has been getting it's ass whipped in terms of Olympics attendance (lack there of ) ....pathetic . Financial disaster in the making .

It's not Greece's fault that Al Qaeda is targeting US interests globally. Look at how many US athletes declined to attend (especially members of the basketball team). Greece spent a lot of money on security (nearly 3 times as much as Sydney). Another known fact that may explain poor attendance is that traditionally, Greeks take their vacation in August. It's been this way for nearly 40 years. We have nearly 700 populated islands. Why melt in the sweltering heat of our capital when we can be enjoying some of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean?

If you actually visited the country in 2000 and then now, you would have realized that some pretty great engineering and organizational accomplishments were achieved in these past 4 years. Two entirely new and completely subterranean metro lines were added (not easy considering Athens is one of the world's oldest cities), streets were pedestrianized and the entire Olympic complex in Irini was built! Every existing metro station was refurbished. An 8 lane highway was completed linking the new airport in north-eastern Attiki with the main north-south artery running from the northern suburbs (where the Olympic village and stadiums are located) to Syntagma Square (city center). And all of it was done for one reason... to welcome the world's athletes to the birthplace of the Olympics and facilitate their transportation during their visit. Maybe afterwards, every Greek will have to pay an extra 1000 euros in taxes a year for 10 years, maybe tourism won't even improve after the Olympics are over. :D

blah blah blah , blame terrorists !!! lol .... all the $$$ on security and YET a suncasino.com advertizer in a Tutu got through a few days ago to jump in the olympic pool . ... no excuses .

Fact of the matter is these Olympics have been a marketing/financial disaster .....there were even rumor of them giving out free tickets so they can fill the seats ...and aren't the greeks having a national TV ad campaign to boost sales ?

You malakas needed to take note from the Euro 2004 in Portugal, which was by many the best championships in euro history . :)

Since when have you been concerned about individuals cheap shooting the US?

Just curious

my disagreement about certain US policies. doesn’t mean I don’t have pride for my country. it's one thing to disagree with policies, have different political perspectives, etc. however at the end of the day we are all Americans, and should be proud of being the same as I am. hence, I’m not particularly fond of people unjustifiably bashing my country.. :)
